No Mac Mini at WWDC?

I'm very dissapointed from this keynote. It's like the worst one Apple ever had. Besides the iPhone 4 That everyone heard about already they didn't announce of any upgrade for their computers or anything new. Is there still any chance it'll be announced on WWDC? Or anytime soon?

:\ I really wanted to buy it already...

It might be a waste to buy the current Mac Mini... Also, I'm planning to buy a Mac Mini for the upcoming one and not the current one. Your reply isn't even related to my point thread...
 
Apples future (and the future of computing in general according to them) is all about the mobile space.

Steve has even talked about 'the uncomfortable transition away'

now with iOS 4 and the ability to make and edit movies within the device itself plus iWork on Ipad, its very clear where Apple is heading.

plus the mac mini is a dreadful piece of kit, overpriced and under specced. I can't believe SJ even likes selling it.

How? What are you expecting? Mini won't get a huge overhaul anyway, just faster C2D and possibly new GPU. Waiting game is endless

I find the mini to be perfect for my needs. I have the current gen 2.53 mini (purchased as a refurb) and it makes an excellent home server. It serves all my media, backs up all my other computers and is small and unobstrusive. It has 4 drives attached to it: 2X1TB FW800, a 1TB FW400 and a 500MB FW400. It will also be my iPad's host when I get around to purchasing one (probably gen 2).
 
A new phone ! clap.....clap......clap:eek: The computer division has become a afterthought it seems. No wonder they removed the word computer from their name. Maybe it will be just a quiet bump and you wont here much about it?

Seriously, do people loose brain cells around WWDC time or something? This is a two hour keynote at a developer conference that is focused around the App Store, mainly because THAT (and similar marketplaces on Android, webOS etc) is where the bulk of fresh, interesting developers are working right now. Of COURSE it's going to be focused around the iDevices and topics that are of interest to developers. Even if Apple redesigned the Mac Mini to metal and glass there's no reason for them to waste time on it here when that time can be better spent talking to the developer audience who've paid to be there.

2009 - iPhone OS 3, 3GS, Snow Leopard and new Macbook Pro's (note this was a relatively weak lineup for whatever reason)
2008 - App Store, iPhone 3G and Snow Leopard.
2007 - Leopard, official launch dates for iPhone
2006 - Final move to Intel platform with Mac Pro and XServe, Leopard and OSX Server
2005 - Intel transition

A spec bump to the Mac Mini hardly qualifies for face time at such an event. It may turn out to be a silent update in the next couple of weeks, who knows, but anyone expecting Steve Jobs to pull the covers off a new Mac Mini on stage with the iPhone 4 waiting in the wings has let expectations and personal desires overrule common sense.
 
What the apologists are missing...

...is that this was the first keynote where basically nothing was noted about the Mac. Apple is a mobile company now and I'm wondering if there's a chance that they may be discontinuing the Mac mini.

You might be the one losing brain cells. Unless I'm out of the loop, don't developers still use computers and not iPhones to actually, you know, develop on?

compared to what you can get elsewhere for the same or cheaper...?

this 'it does the job' argument is rubbish.

A Citroen 2CV is technically a car and will get you from A to B, personally I would prefer something better.

Not necessarily true.

I think Apple thinks that the future in general is mobile so they are 'with it' I don't think they feel they have much choice.!

If you compare it to a desktop PC, it might feel overpriced. They are two different animals though. Mini is an extremely small and power efficient little beast, equipped with brilliant OS. PC on the other hand is big and clumsy plus consumes several times more power.

For 90% of people, Mini offers more than enough speed. It's reasonably priced if you compare it to other Macs, cheapest way to get a computer with OS X. Sure we can start the debate how fast PC you could get for 600$ but that's way offtopic plus people will likely support the Mini because this is a Mac forum.

Would Apple really update anything on the day after such a big announcement? I would think that Apple marketing doesn't want anything to distract from the iPhone between now and the day it's available on the 24th :(

Full of generalisations and incorrect info.

Brilliant OS? PC's are 'big and clumsy' ??? :eek: really? not the ones I build...

For 90% of people an iPad would suffice, but thats not really the point.

I was thinking the same thing. I think they would prefer:

iMacs for the normal user
Mac Pros for the Pro user
appletv for your media goodness. Subscription of $30 gets you all the streaming music you can get, one movie rental.

Maybe I should be getting a mini while I still can! :)

Note - not a direction I want to see things go!!
