compared to what you can get elsewhere for the same or cheaper...?
urm.... everything?
this 'it does the job' argument is rubbish.
A Citroen 2CV is technically a car and will get you from A to B, personally I would prefer something better.
Brilliant OS? PC's are 'big and clumsy' ???really? not the ones I build...
Show me a PC which is as small as Mini but more powerful... I've build several nice specced PCs to miniITC case (Sugo SG05) but it's still bigger than Mini, let alone the noise it makes (the case has holes all over it). Sure it beats Mini 100-0 in terms of performance but I doubt the people who choose Mini even need performance. Even if Mini got a price cut you would still complain
All Macs cost a premium but I'm glad to pay few hundreds extra to get OS X
It does most likely bumps, nothing to generate much buzzz just bumps.......once all those 9400s are gone. That's really weird though.
Today i've been eMailing the company which sells the Apple products here in Israel, And asked them if they got any Mac Minis available in stock and from what they said is that they got a few more and relevant for today only. Which is pretty weird i mean why did they mention it's relevant for today only? Also, If you go to Best Buy America website you can see they're out of stock in all the states... Doesn't it hint us on something?
Focus here is Apple seems to have walked away from all its desktops, I dont see any enthusiasm coming from Apple on computers at all, almost like they forgot these things in their zeal to go after mobile devices. MacPro & Mini using the same cases from over 3 years ago? years ago this would never had happened! Its all about pads, pods and phones now. No excitement at all on the computer side of things, None. The golden age and fun of Apple computers may be over, just another appliance from another appliance maker?
Pretty much since the October 2009 release of the new iMacs and updated Mac Mini the momentum has stopped. Sure Apple grudgingly released updates to the MBP and MB but those were relatively minor and long overdue. I guess Apple, despite its huge market cap is still relatively small and does not have the resources to focus on multiple projects.
At the ATD conference SJ made reference to focusing on areas that the company feels have growth potential. With about 5% market share for Mac worldwide there seems to be plenty of growth potential. Not sure why Apple would want to concede the computer market to MS after all the hard work they have put in over the past decade.
Yeah, Valsav's right. Why would Apple ever give up on Desktops?
It's like the most stupid thing i've ever heard.
maybe not...
Apple probably realise that the number or pool of people willing to pay over the odds for their machines given the specs is limited. I think the growth potential for Mac machines...at current prices is limited.
I also think that Apple think desktop computers in general are past it now, irrespective of OS.
I mean we are at full apps (iMovie, Pages etc) running on iphones and ipads now.
Once Apple can get past the need to activate a device with iTunes, I can see them really scaling back and maybe even licensing the OS out.
Win 7 being so good hasn't helped them either!![]()
iDevice apps are just crap and useless. Who on earth wants to edit movie on 3.5" screen!
Plus you're forgetting apps like Final Cut and Logic, both having significant market share in their market. There are millions of things you simply cannot do with 800MHz ARM CPU and 3.5" touchscreen. They are just toys. I doubt you want to write 100 page assignment with iPhone?
Apple may focus on iDevices but that doesn't mean others are completely left out. Mini especially has been more or less a hobby and before March 2009, it was nearly discontinued. It was VERY outdated and I'm sure Steve was working on iPad and iPhone etc, but Mini still got updated. Mini is still fairly fresh compared to Mac Pro and MBA.
Normal computers will still be the mainstream for years. iDevices are still way to limited to be used instead of a real Mac. They do web surfing and such simple stuff, but that's it.
Back when Apple switched to Intel the general consensus was that we would see hardware updates more often. Unfortunately it seems that the opposite is true. Apple hardware (besides the iPhone/iPod/iPad) now languishes for 16 months or more before updates. I personally believe that Jobs is just not interested in the "personal computer" anymore. I think over the next five years that we will see the iOS make its way into the laptop line and then the iMac. That and Apple will evolve the A4 chip into something powerful enough to run on a Macbook Pro. OS X as we currently know it will fade into the back ground with small updates every year. The Mac Pro will hang around for the power users until Apple finally pulls the plug in about five years. So I would say by 2015 if someone is interested in a Mac "computer" they will have to be happy and limited to running iOS on either an ultra-thin, touch screen laptop (or iMac) which will be able to run off of a battery for 20 hours. The fact that Apple is porting over all of their Apps to the iOS makes this seem all the more evident.

screw that.lol, sorry but you have no idea...
100 pages on iphone? No but on iPad with keyboard... yes sure why not?
Apple sees the future (right or wrong) as cloud based with a portal of some kind into the cloud.
Final cut and Logic will become a web app GUI that Apple then run at lightening speed for you on their server farm, stored on a public drive so that your customers can simply log in and view it.
thats the future my friend (or the future as apple see it)

I have dual core Celerons running Win 7 that make OSX live up to its' real name....
slow leopard!!![]()
Its based on the not unrealistic observation that the mini tends to follow the hardware of the MacBook, and that got a revamp recently with a new GPU. The MacRumors Buyer's Guide also shows its about 2 weeks away from the average refresh.I keep seeing threads like this.
Where exactly are people getting that a refresh is coming for the mac mini? I've seen nothing from Apple on this? Looks like another bogus internet rumor
