They obviously didn't want to steal the Mac Pro thunder so it'll be a Tuesday thing as I can't see them not getting the latest mobile chips from Intel.

I suspect this will happen within the next few weeks.

Alright School starts the 26th of august for me 27th of august for my girlfriend. We are both waiting patiently for the macbook pro to ship with the memron chip in it. We have till like the day before than to wait but she NEEDS a comp before she goes off to school i might be able to hold out. Should i tell her to go ahead and buy one to guarantee it's at her door before school starts or what? Or would it be worth the wait and cut it close?

I'd just wait till this week is over and then buy it. Merom is only a 15-20% increase and it isn't like you'd really notice it in day-to-day stuff. It's a bit risky buying it say, the day before you go to school because something could go wrong or whatever.

To the OP

Do you absolutely need a computer the day you start?

If someone gave my car a 20% boost in power for no extra cost I'd wait two weeks without (I mean are you computerless now?)

wtf? not "really" the same thing though is it... ;)

OK, I can spell that out for you. For example if someone reduced the render time of an aiff in my favorite music program by 20% then I'd leap at the chance. Especially as that increase in power is essentially free when the upgrades are likely to come in a few weeks.

Understand what I'm saying now? Less confused?

my question is how long will i have to wait for them to upgrade it? end of august? end of september? i have a very nice PB G4 that i love (dirty as hell) but works just fine, but im going to be doing alot of comp intensive stuff and also need windows my middle to end of first semester

I am sure an update will be out in a few weeks and or a month or so, if you do not need to upgarde, don't and wait for the new version.

I'm thinking the same thing here. Leaving for school on the 23rd, and where the frick is my merom notebook!!!! I mean come on, its 64bit, and 25% (from what I've heard) better performance. Thats big. That will affect a lot of apps. It is worth the wait, and with the processors already shipping from intel and the fact that they will fit on the same motherboard as the old Core Duo means that very very soon we should see this update. I'm really getting nervous now becuase I still want my free nano with my student discount (that offer ends Sept. 16).

Now I leave on the 23rd, but I have an iBook G4 that is still working fine so I think if I absolutley need to hold on to this thing I will. That 64bit is going to be crucial. I want the next comp I buy to last for at least 4 years. That is why its so important to me.

I also want to take advantage of the free nano and printer.

ARGHH!!! I'm praying that the new MBP comes out before then.

Don't worry. The latest the updated MBP will be relesed is on Macworl Paris.
Thats in 40 days. The iPod deal ends on Macworld Paris. So you should be good. :)

So WWDC keynote is over. And no macbook pro was announced. What i should i do for a macbook pro, i dont need one right and can wait untill decemberish to buy one. When do you think they will release the new one?

Dan

My bet would be October in advance of the holiday shopping season. There is no doubt that Apple will update the MacBook Pro before the end of the year.

September? October? December? It seemed like many people were pretty sure of an end of august release a week ago.

O well, I'm still hoping I can get one before school starts.

No new MacBook Pro isnt a BAD thing lol. For the ones who have them, theres not much to look forward to. Just be dissapointed that you missed out on some hot new technology. :) Im not sad in anyway.

if it wasn't such a drmatic update I'd go ahead and buy mine right now. But since its a whole new processor that could be crucial when it comes to running certain apps in leopard then I feel I need to wait until mid-september or so if need be...
Im getting nervous though, they better not put it off till the holiday shopping season.

Exactly. if it wasn't 64 Bit processors, and 64 Bit wouldn't arrive till next march then yeah I'd be buying now, but the way they talked about leopard... Makes me want 64 bit badly. Not quite sure if it'll be very important, but sounded like it!

Is it more realistic to see new MacBook Pros introduced at Paris or as a silent update beforehand? I know that it certainly broke my heart to not hear anything at WWDC, although I do understand that it is a DEVELOPERS conference and not a Christmas morning for many of us consumers. :)

I suppose I'm just getting antsy for an upgrade. I am looking into buying my very first Mac and have been hoping for Merom for sometime now.

What seems more reasonable, a Paris release or a silent release before?

Hey me too. Exact same boat. First Mac, waiting for Merom.

Anyways my guess is Paris. Apple is pretty proud of their laptops especially the MBP I couldn't imagine them just one day putting an RSS feed on their website saying "Hey 2.33 Core 2 Duo MBP now available..."

That's kind of what I was thinking, too. Assuming they receive some sort of revision in enclosure (magnetic latch, so on and so forth...) that will just make the announcement more likely to happen at Paris, IMO.

I guess I'm just waiting for a handful of people to give me wishful thinking by saying "New MBPs on Tuesday!" :)

Here's to those with patience, we feel for you!

I'll be without my own computer for the first few weeks of college if Apple doesn't release the Merom MBP within the next 2 weeks. I'm not buying a 32-bit computer. Not at this stage.

Amen. Although, I still don't really understand the difference between 32-bit and 64-bit...

I still firmly believe Apple will introduce the new Core2Duos towards the end of the year though it wasn't announced. Perhaps the new cpus weren't enough to justify an announcement, at least compared to what was introduced.

hi! i've just joined the boards and i've just ordered my first mac in 10 years! i went with the macbook pro 15 inch. i was waiting until after the wwdc but to be honest, i already made up my mind what i wanted. i'm not going to obsess about when the mbps are gonna get the merom chips. you can wait forever...something better will always come along. i just wanted the waiting to stop and the fun to begin. i'm just really excited at the moment and can't wait to start using a mac again!
