Tons of Core 2 Duo PCs outstrip this today. Shame on Apple, wtf are they doing.

The Mac Pro is *so* underwhelming for $2499. Geforce 7300GT, HA HA HA. Even the most expensive mac can't even play games. Go figure.

notice how you can configure it

So WWDC keynote is over. And no macbook pro was announced. What i should i do for a macbook pro, i dont need one right and can wait untill decemberish to buy one. When do you think they will release the new one?

Nobody knows. Merom chips are available, but nobody knows when there will be enough to put them into MacBooks and MacBook Pros. Fact is, once they are announced, sales of the old machines will drop to zero. So what will happen on some day is that the Apple Store will go down, an announcement is made, Apple Store goes up again and suddenly everything has Merom chips.

Apple will do that as soon as they can; if there is a special occasion then they might delay this at most for a week.

I'm thinking the same thing here. Leaving for school on the 23rd, and where the frick is my merom notebook!!!! I mean come on, its 64bit, and 25% (from what I've heard) better performance. Thats big. That will affect a lot of apps.

It won't affect any applications, because there is no 64 bit operating system. That will come with Leopard, first quarter of 2007.

in any case, i would never want the first batch which is why i feel totally comfortable going with the current lineup of intel core duo macbook pros. i know what to expect. for what i am doing with it, it's plenty powerful. i can upgrade to merom later if and when it becomes necessary.

You do realize that some professionals use processor-intensive apps, so what would be the point of a really expensive graphics card? And the most expensive Mac can play the latest games at 100fps+, you just have to configure it which is the whole point of having only one standard configuration.

So I am right in thinking it's NOT a "straight chip swap" i.e. no new features, just take out the old chip and bung in the new?

I've heard there is going to be a complete redesign. That would also make sense, as they can't STILL use the same case as the PowerBook, I think it would be rare to use the same design through 3 models (if you know what I mean)

You never know, we might get blue ray slot loading drives!!!
Now THAT would be the cherry on the cake!

Sony (dare I say that word!!) are already offering BlueRay Laptops since June. Saying that though, it could always go HD-TV instead?!?

Dan :)

All of I sudden I really regret selling my one and only Mac, a CD mini. On the upside I've kinda proven to myself how good Mac resale values are (lose about $100 or so after 5 good months of use!), on the other hand it is quite dumb to buy another Mini to go back to waiting for the MBP...

I'm amazed at how many people missed the sarcasm here.

It'll happen as soon as they can say, available today, just as they did with the Mac Pros.

Agreed.

They can't take the MBP out of the stores for 2+ weeks while the new ones roll out.

You mean, of course, HD-DVD.

And since neither HD-DVD nor Blu-ray are available yet in the Mac Pro, I think there is practically no chance that we will see either in the MacBook Pro in the near future.

Just buy the macbook pro. I will in a few weeks time. IF they are upgraded, great. If not no biggy. Least I'll have something...
