I never had a MobileMe account, so I created my @me.com account once I installed the iOS 5 GM. I just tested the push feature after browsing this thread, and my messages are arriving instantly to my phone, but oddly enough, they aren't on my iPad.

Well, throw that idea out the window! Sorry you're having issues. I dont have an iPhone but both my iPads are working as expected. Guess I got lucky for once.

Same here. I have set fetch to manual and iCloud to push, and I don't get a notification or even an increase in the number of unread mail icon status until I launch the mail app.

Also, on an unrelated note, since iOS 5, I have been unable to use gmail as my "Default Account."

:confused::confused::confused:

I have Fetch set to Push and iCloud set to Push. My works so you might try this.

Perhaps I'm missing something...why are you all closing the Mail app? It's designed to run in the background and uses almost no resources. There's absolutely no reason to close it. Just leave it open and you'll instantly get your email.

Because if youre running a game that is a resourse hog, you need to close all your apps. Or lets say you closed it by accident. Now you would miss your emails till you opened the mail app.

Well I'm happy to see that upgrading to ios5 on my iPad won't change my push mail problem. It works... Then stops... And starts back up again. I've been told they (apple) see it in the logs, they finally realized something is turning off push despite it showing still being set that way. Alas... No iOS engineers were available to look into it after the MobileMe team declared it so NOT their problem (after 4 weeks of testing and me sending logs).

Anyway.... I feel your pain - except in my case my iPhone works great and my iPad fails.

I'm afraid to upgrade my phone and have it break on it though, I need it working.

Just leaving the app open may be a work around for now but it should not be a requirement. In my experience IOS does a pretty good job of handling memory but it is not perfect. There are times it just does not seem to release memory and you will get a low memory notice. Printing a document comes to mind. Also I have noticed if I leave too many apps in the mulitasking area my iPad gets a bit sluggish if I try to run some memory intensive apps.

For some reason mine seems to be working fine currently. I have both my macbook osx mail client and my iPhone4s mail client both receiving push notifications around the same time.

I too came from MobileMe and recently transferred my @me.com address over to icloud. At first I had some problems, but I made sure that all the remnants of MobileMe settings were off both devices in order to make sure iCloud was the only one set to work.

Under my mail and contacts settings in my phone mine says just iCloud and then fetch new data push. Then under iCloud I have everything set to on except wireless backup. This probably won't help anyone with their predicament, but I guess I just wanted to let you know how I went about having it work.

I've tested repeatedly on multiple devices with multiple iCloud accounts.

It works with the Mail App running, and with the Mail App closed (by manually killing it from the multitasking bar.)

I suggest that people check their notification settings, and make sure notifications are on for e-mail.

My mail message notifications appear on my device within seconds after sending mail to them.

If you've checked your settings, try deleting your iCloud account and adding it again, or restoring your device from backup. (make sure you backed it up first!)

If all of that fails, then perhaps there is a problem with your iCloud account -- and you'll need to wait for Apple to get it working again.

As many people have pointed out, Push does work for iCloud. I'm not sure what the Apple Rep was trying to say to the OP, but the subject of this thread is wrong.

There is Push Mail in iCloud and it works beautifully (for many).

If it's not working for you, check your mail settings, check your notification settings, try re-adding your account, try restoring your phone. If you have more than one iOS 5 device, try the account on another device.

I tried these things and none of them worked so please don't give tips that won't help but are a lot of work!

Done it all and it doesn't work. I restored as new also and nothing. My settings are set to push, nothing.

I am experiencing the same problem but this is my situation:
With the release of iOS5 I thought it would be handy to merge my wife's music collection and mine.
So I created a mutual iCloud account for this. We will use this account for purchases and to store our music in the cloud with iTunes Match.
This is the account configured under "iCloud" in settings.

Under Settings->Mail,Contacts,Calendars I configured my personal mobileme-account (after migrating it to an iCloud account).

Because we do not receive email on the mutual account I disabled everything except for Calendars and photostream. This because we also like to share our photos and a mutual calendar also seems handy.

On my personal iCloud account I enabled mail, contacts and find my iphone.

If I set it up like this, push will not work for my personal iCloud account.

However, if I enable mail for the mutual iCloud account, push works like a charm..on both accounts.

Seems to be a bug. I don't want to enable email for the mutual account, because we simply don't use it so I don't want to see that in my email client.

Recap: It looks like if you do not have the iCloud account you want to receive email on configured under settings->iCloud and enabled "mail" for it, push will not work.

I want to do this idea for my wife and myself. I might be messaging you soon about this if you don't mind.

Hope a fix comes out soon. I missed 3 important emails in the middle of the night. Granted, I was able to be contacted by other means.

Match finally started working correctly yesterday. My email was fine until sometime yesterday.

I've never had a mobile.me account. Always had push on Exchange.

I get my iCloud/@me.com emails delivered instantly (pushed in the same way my exchange emails do) with fetch set to push. I'm getting notifications in the new notification centre too (granted I did have to enable that separately)

Same problem here. Migrated from MobileMe. Has there been any update from Apple and/or an Apple representative?

Thanks all for chiming in and for the advice.

I just chatted with another APPLE REP via EXPRESSLANE and she was the most helpful yet. Said she has the same issue with her iPhone not receiving mail via PUSH unless the app is open. Thought it was just the way it worked with iCloud.

I pointed out several different forums where people were talking about the issue and she was finally able to verify that the engineers are aware of the issue and are working on a solution. No time is known as to when a 'fix' will happen but I'm more hopeful now just knowing that they are aware of the problem.

It definitely seems to be an iOS5/iCloud problem as iCloud.com and MacMail seem to work just fine.

Hopefully a fix will happen soon!

I had the same issue after migrating from me.com to iCloud. I went into settings and reset my network settings, and push started back up. Had no problems since.

The more I read about this, the more I think it's just messed up settings on peoples' devices.

If you've tried everything, especially if Push seems to work with your Mail App running in the background, then check your Notification Settings. If you have them turned off, you won't get any indication that you received mail if the Mail App is closed.

Go to "Settings" on your device.

Tap "Notifications"

Scroll down and tap "Mail"

Turn on everything:
Notification Center: ON
Show: 5 Unread Items
Alert Style: Banners
Badge App Icon: ON
Show Preview: ON
View in Lock Screen: ON

If the Mail App isn't running, because you shut it down, or played a big game that shut down background apps -- the Notification center is what receives Push Notifications.

Make sure it's running.

Since I turned on Find my Phone in the iCloud settings, this has been working fine. Rebooted the phone. Email definitely quit. Receiving mails through without a hitch now.

Turned Find my Phone back off again and it's still working so may be coincidental.

Not here. My settings were all fine. Not changed anything you suggested and it's started working.

The people here aren't idiots! It's not a client-side configuration issue. I reseted the network settings, restored the device, checked the iCloud options and the notifications are on OF COURSE. I even called the "Apple Support"! It has to be a software, account or server-side issue. I hope this will be fixed soon.

OMG. I hope I'm wrong on this. I didn't have time to try it a few times, but unless I have iCal opened I don't get any updates that I done in the iCloud. It doesn't push to the phone untill I clicked iCal. Can someone tell me if this is true?
