I'm picking up my new ipad mini in Louisville next friday and it says to bring in my trade in to the store. I assume it is based on what store you are dealing with?
I’m also going to Oxmoor on Friday, but for an iPhone. My email tells me “when your new product ships or you pick it up from the Apple Store, a trade in kit will be shipped to you”

One of the reasons I went for in store pickup was so that I could trade in my phone at the same time and not have to worry about mailing it in or waiting, but I was a bit surprised to see this note in my email confirmation:

Is that something new? I had thought that in previous years you could trade in at the store when you picked up your new phone.
Just checked my order on apple.com and it gives instructions to trade in in store. So I Would not sweat it

So just to follow up on this, I went to pick up my phone at the store today and asked if I could trade my phone in there. They said no problem and went through all of the assessments, but when they got to the final step to apply the trade credit to my phone it wouldn’t let them continue. They checked with a manager and he said that since I was set up to trade by mail they couldn’t override it and allow me to trade in at the store.

So it looks like if you are set up to trade by mail then you won’t have the option to trade at the store. If you are already set up to trade at the store then you should be fine.

Same notice here. I suppose the one advantage would be that you could have both phones for a few days to make sure you like the new one. But I will probably exchange at the Apple store if they let me. This at least gives me a minute to look at the new phone for cosmetic defects. Last time my 11Pro had a major finish defect (FYI, it's the first time I returned an iPhone.)

I also selected in-store pickup for my order and my details say trade-in kit will be mailed out to me.

I wonder if in-store trades are for selected stores? I'm in California btw
Cali here too. Same deal for me

Was hoping I could just trade it in at the store, where the sales rep can check it right then and there and be done with it, so I don't have to worry about sending it in and somehow getting a "revised trade in value" that is less than $790.

Thank you for the updated info Brett, sorry it didn't work out.

I have this on my order also (in PA), no mention of "no in store trade in." Even employees stated last Sat I can come on today and get the refund (Never had a problem in the past...even last Nov.)

Suddenly today things have changed on iPhone day? Give me a break.

I will go to the Apple store later, its only a few miles from me...maybe, hopefully this can be squared away. (Who knows, being optimistic over here)

Just not a fan of shipping this out and waiting a few weeks, suddenly they may drop my trade in on this mint condition phone.

I don’t know about carriers other than AT&T. If an Apple store will not take your trade in, you should take it to an AT&T corp store and trade in there. That is way more preferable than mailing it in.

It would not be way more preferable in my case, given that my carrier is T-Mobile ;)

Odd! I have Verizon. (Ordered through Apple. com)

No idea if this makes a difference, it really shouldn't IMO.
Just some goofy last min. hoop jumping with this.

I'm in IUP and I just came back from the Apple Store pick up of my new iPhone 13 Pro Max. Trading in your phone in store is optional. There is a step in the checkout process on the Apple Store rep's device that asks whether the customer will be trading in now or have a kit mailed. I chose not to trade it in and have a kit mailed to me. It also asks whether to activate the new phone once the transaction is completed or upon power up of new device. I chose to delay activation until I brought it home and powered it up. Hope this helps.

But if you do that your stuck with Verizon

Perhaps it depends on the store selected. I am trading in my wife's 11 for a 13. Selected Trade In at the store (Freehold Mall in NJ) and the email I got this morning says "Your trade-in has been initiated" and it reminds me to bring my device when I pick up the new iPhone. No mention of the box.
But I do seem to remember getting an email the other day - while the order was still in Processing - something about a mail-in kit, but didn't read it carefully enough to see if it was giving me the option of doing a mail-in instead of the trade-in at the store.

I purchased a 13 Pro via walk-in today, and the guy actually told me to trade in my 12 Pro right there on the spot, in order to get the Verizon promo. We did the backup and transfer, wiped the old phone, he kept it, and I was on my way. No mailing required.

I had in-store trading selected and got an email last night reminding me to bring it in today when I did my pick up. When I got there, they preferred that I get a mail-in kit and the Apple employee clicked mail-in. I haven't received a new email about mailing it in yet, my orders page still shows in store. Hopefully it will update soon and I will get my mail in kit. I am with AT&T so I would like to get this taken care of sooner rather than later.

Going from my current carrier Verizon plan to the next phone.
Paid in full, no monthly payments
And they will give you credit for the phone even if it’s paid off? I’m in the same boat. 13 PM is paid off. Need to get rid of the 12 PM

I did an in store pick up this morning. The rep told me I have 14 days to bring in my 12 Pro Max for the trade in so I don’t have to wait for the box to arrive.

So dumb question. Just got my 13 and I guess it came in the “return kit” but I have no return label etc?

I don’t know if this is the right place to ask this, but I’m trading in the phone I’m using, so can I erase it while I’m at the Apple Store?
