My iPhone 6s Plus used to rotate upside down in Google Maps and Apple Maps but no longer does so. I don't know for certain when this happened, maybe iOS 12? I used it upside down in the cup holder like many others here.

Google led me here... this issue is annoying. I am in the camp that would use Waze or Google Maps with my 8+ in the cup holder of my truck so I could charge it. Not able to do this with the X/XS/XSM/XR.

Annoying.. and to those saying we are using our cup holders wrong.....

Voice Memos was definitely allowed to be turned upside down. I have done it many times to record parts of a weekly rehearsal. Holding it upside down meant the mic was facing outward.

I just tried it now with the X, and it didn’t rotate. I guess that’s out. It’ll be interesting to see how it records.

It rotates upside down for me on iOS 12 in iPhone SE. I need my browser and several other apps to do that as well. I'll search for a browser that allows this. Sad Safari is out, it works great on iPad as has been mentioned.

The only device to ever allow upside down rotation are the iPads. No iPhone has ever done upside down rotation.
[doublepost=1548348430][/doublepost]In that case you need better glasses :) My 6S always sat upside down with google maps on for directions but this XR won’t do it. Going back to 6S and sending the XR back. The one thing I need it to do and it doesn’t do it. What a load of rubbish.

Correct. The 6S rotated upside down. It was a great feature because I could leave my phone plugged in to charge in my car and the maps app would rotate to the correct orientation while the phone was upside down. Miss this and hope they bring it back in the future.

[doublepost=1559363456][/doublepost]Not true. I have placed my iPhones upside down while charging for years because I couldn’t lean it against something and read with the cable in the way. But the X won’t rotate.

Show video proof of this. Not possible without a jailbreak.

Why do you guys keep resurrecting this old thread? Did you fail to see the other posts that have already pointed out that I was incorrect?

Not true. I have 2 iPhones that rotate to upside down viewing.

Neither of my phones are jailbroken and have this feature. No need to be argumentative with your disbelief. Nobody has anything to gain from lying about an iPhone’s features!

I miss this feature, also. It’s apparently possible on iPhone X, XR, XS but my friends and I haven’t found a resolution to date. I use a lanyard and when I’m chatting on loud speaker, I have to tip the phone to be comfortable with the lanyard around my neck but, it won’t rotate. Such a shame. It’s definitely worth sending Apple the feedback, I already have.

What if I had a genuine interest in seeing a feature I wasn't aware of? It's kinda hard for me to believe when it's text-only. What apps do you use that rotate upside down?

I believe a number of different examples have been provided in various posts in this thread.

I sent a feature request for Apple to allow Maps to rotate while charging and it works on my SE but only while navigating, but I may have not realised that it worked all along. I see after reading your post that Voice Memos works, too, so that’s good.

I think that has been covered multiple times. The Lightning port is in the bottom.

Was hoping to find a solution to this as it’s kind of a bummer that it won’t rotate upside down when in the car cup holder. I know my old 5s, 6s and 8 all rotated.

Just got the 11pro and it’s not rotating either...assuming because of the cut out.

Sometimes I plug my phone in and place it upside down in the cup holder of my wife’s car and bring up waze.

The iPhone X doesn’t appear to allow apps to be displayed upside down. I realize the notch might be the reason, although in Waze’s case, the app hasn’t been updated for the iPhone X yet.

Is this true? Are there any examples of apps working while upside down? I haven’t found any. Maybe we will get this back in a future iOS update?

This is *exactly* what I do with my iPhone 11 and *exactly* the problem I am having my iPhone 11. I upgraded from an iPhone 6S and all apps allowed upside down rotation. Getting used to not having a home button is understandable, but there does not seem to be a logical reason why upside down rotation feature would be removed. I have no idea where between 6S and 11 the feature was removed, but it is gone now. I was running the latest iOS on my 6S so that is not the reason why the feature was removed.

It is apparently disabled due to the notch. Any model iPhone with a notch (X, XS, 11, etc...) does not support upside-down rotation.
