I have the dedicated button on all my Lumia phones, but tend to forget it is there. Habit of tapping the screen to take pics from years of iphones and Android phones. Don't really view the lack of that button as a con.
The only real con I can see for the phone is the 512mb of RAM, solely because it prevents a few apps from being loaded onto the phone. If they had simply put 1gb in there, this would have been a killer deal. Now, it is simply the new 520/521 in my view. Still a good deal though. And I dig that you can swap out the entire back plate for different colors, just like with the 520.
The 1020's successor is codenamed McLaren and rumors are it will have a Canon based camera with Canon's patented image processing and OIS. How many megapixels it will have though? Don't know? Other rumors have this phone as a quad core based 5.2" screen with kinect like 3d touch.
Edit: Never mind. Microsoft just killed the entire phone. Looks like the Icon/930, 635 and 'possibly' a 830 will be the only new phones for this year. 3D touch has also been shelved.

Might want to verify that promotion. Apparently, Microsoft isn't honoring that promotion now as they have run out of accessory stock. Saw it on WPCentral.com today.
This is for the UK, but it may effect Ireland as well.

Speaking of successors, where is Nokia on the successors of the 1520 and 1020? I am not too sure their release cycle like I am for the Samsung devices which I have lately.
1020 successor was codenamed McCleran and Microsoft just killed the project a few days ago, when they hacked 18,000 jobs. Right now it looks like the 930 is it for this year.
The 1520 is rumored to have a 1525 successor. Same looks, just slightly bumped CPU specs.
I really wanted a 930. Damn it all those lame exclusives! TMobiles frequency's for LTE is 1700 and 2100 i believe. Will the phone for which this thread is about work on that?
No U.S. GSM LTE bands for the Lumia 930. You can expect HSPA+21 (not even HSPA+42) as a max speed from what I have read.
This is the 930 Int'l version specs:
LTE network bands: 1, 3, 7, 8, 20
GSM network: 850 MHz, 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz
This is T-Mobile and AT&T LTE bands:
ATT LTE bands: 2, 4, 5, 17
TMO LTE bands: 2 and 4 only (a subset of AT&T's network)
What we want to see on all GSM phones is this: LTE Band 4 (1700/2100/AWS)
Saw the 930 in person today and got a hands on ...... it's lovely. It's much slimmer than the images appear on the net, and the screen to bezel ratio is excellent. The screen is super sharp, super bright and vibrant .... I want it ... I want it sooooo bad ......
So Picked up my Lumia 930 yesterday morning.
I managed to pick up a brand new Unbranded - Unlocked european black model from CarphoneWarehouse in Ireland for a staggering €429 or £339
To put this in perspective Amazon have it for £420 = €530 or Expansys.ie have it for = €585 !!!
So I saved €100-150 and got an unbranded and unlocked model brand new.....
As a bonus because I bought before 31st July - I qualified for the Free Wireless bluetooth Speaker, Extended wireless desktop charger, Lumia 930 folio case & €25 voucher for the App Store. A total of €190 worth of bonus goodies.

First impressions are generally positive but had a couple of issues.
Pro's + Neg's
1) Device looks great - and whilst some have said its a chunky device - it seems to be much of a muchness next to my galaxy S5 & M8 here. The fact that it doesn't have a jutted out camera like the S5 is also welcome.
2) Screen is beautiful but the colour calibration was WAY WAY WAY off. Thankfully there is an update in the store when setting up the device and you can then change the colour to suit. I have restored Neutrality.
3) Performance is generally excellent, basically its the same as the 1520 so I have no qualms in that regard. (However I did have 1 issue see below in battery)
4) Battery life was SHOCKING for me !! I mean SERIOUSLY bad. I set up the phone as a restore from my 1020 setup and that went great - love the way Windows Phone restores your desktop icon system from another phone - saves so much time. But my battery life issue was puzzling. Basically I hit the power switch on the side and instead of instant notification/lock screen I got a 'resuming' prompt as if something was constantly backgrounded on the lock screen. I eventually sorted this out by removing all the lock screen notification icons in the settings menu and set them up fresh. After doing this - instant lock screen as should have been expected and my battery life returned to some normality. Will monitor it over next couple of days and battery cycles.
5) small wireless charging plate - came in the box - which was great
6) No headphones however which is a bummer. OK i never use them but I like knowing I have spare accessories in the box
7) Call quality and reception is excellent. Even in a very troublesome blackspot that normally force drops every call I make the Lumia 930 managed to hold onto the call.
Will post a full review in a week with photo samples and comparisons to my other devices.

Regarding battery life, in my limited experience with WP devices (only Lumia 520), I have discovered that it takes about 24 hours for the system to settle in. That's somewhat true for iOS and Android, but it seems more so with WP.
When I first starting using it (w/WP8), I was disappointed with the battery life... but after a day or so, it dramatically improved to the point of having the best battery life of any smartphone I own. Then when I temporarily upgraded to 8.1, the same thing... at first I thought it was a bug in 8.1, but after a day, it too settled in.
I really like the black aesthetics of it too. I'll still hold onto my 1020 for the camera alone, but yeah its really nice. I love the screen to bezel ratio. Can't wait for Cortana to come to UK too.
Yeah it's the same for most phones battery wise, but there was definitely a problem with my setup before I corrected it. It's already settling after correcting and I'm sure in a weeks time ill be getting comparable battery to my android handsets.

Battery has settled down .... is generally comparable to my GS5 (maybe a tiny tad worse - but given its 400mah smaller that is to be expected)
I have a 520 that I never use....might jump on this if it has LTE and a bit larger than 4" display.
Especially with the sd card support.
EDIT: Looks like I have until August 8th to decide....LTE, 4.5" display....tempting. I might just do it. I don't ever use that 520 because I don't like forgoing LTE and the display just doesn't do it for me (I'm starting to long for a 4.7" iPhone 6).
I've got one in my Amazon cart....will mull it over.

We did find out the 635 does not have DT2W or Glance support, which sucks.
I think you will love it especially if you thought the 520 was a capable device.
Granted it is my first dance into the WP OS but I love everything about the phone minus the power button being the only option to turn it on at the moment. Screen is very good, battery life is ridiculously good (almost 2 full days),and the device flies and is very snappy.
