The larger app selection is always more desirable no matter how one tries to package it. It's something Microsoft needs to address to make WP8 more desirable.
a flash light app is not the best example here as I couldn't give a ......... how it looks as long as it works. I agree that the more choice the better but that'll all change - ios didn't come with 600k apps when it first launched either - wp8 will get there
There are 400,000 apps that have NEVER been downloaded from the app store. NEVER! ZERO.

The thing is, there is a much more likelihood that in those 50+ torch/flashlight apps, there is going to be at least one or two really good ones.

It reads here: phonearena.com Link
counted the number of flashlight apps and found that Apple iPhone users in need of a quick light have 1,899 choices.
WP7 marketplace has 128 hits on the term 'flashlight'. Either is fine to me.
You guys don't realistically expect a platform with less than 5% marketshare to have the same app selection as the iPhone do you? I think Microsoft has done well getting the apps they have. As marketshare increases more developers will try to bring their apps to WP.
How does the Lumia 920 IPS screen compared to iPhone and Galaxy in terms of quality (not size). Is it "retina" ?
Does anyone have any experience switching from iOS to Windows 7/8? I'm not ready to sell my Macbook Pro or iPad yet but I am really considering giving Windows 8 (Lumia 920 likely) a try. I'm a tech-geek and 5 years of iOS is getting a little stale for me, even though I have no complaints about it.
If I switch to a phone other than an iPhone, will I lose my unlimited data? If so and it turns out I don't like the other phone and return it for an iPhone 5, anyone know if I can get the unlimited data back?
I did switch. If I were you I would wait and see how the WP8 store evolves in the few months following the release of WP8 handsets. I wouldn't go back to iOS, even if the appstore is populated by many games and apps that are just absent from the WP store. The OS is just a notch above the rest IMO, in terms of ease of use, practical aesthetics and footprint. WP8 will just sweeten the deal and allow devs to make apps unrestricted (which was not the case with the WP7 and IMO one of the main reasons why it has not attracted as many devs as expected).
As far as your data's concerned, as long as you upgrade your phone the same way you did when upgraded to newer iPhones, I don't see why it would change anything. It's about the contract, not the handset.
Only thing I am a bit sad about I can't sync music with iTunes... thought I hope software is good, because I hate iTunes syncing with iPhone, when apps get deleted and all that rubbish.
Thanks for the info. I'm thinking about picking up a cheap Windows 7 phone and trying it out. Did you do the full switch from OSX/iOS to Windows?
I've been giving a lot of thought to the app store debate. It's obvious that iOS has the largest, most polished app store out there. I don't think that is even up for debate. But as many have said there are thousands of apps that are useless, thousands that are "light" versions (so basically a half functional duplicate of a real app), thousands of lesser known apps that clone well known apps, etc......
So I looked at my iPhone, I have 5 pages. And I'm asking myself, how many of these do I really use? How many are just a portal to a mobile website? How many are also available on the other platforms?
What it really comes down to for me- I want a nice browser, a facebook app, a camera app that is nice (whether it's stock or not doesn't matter), and a couple of games. Most of the stuff on my iPhone I don't use much anymore.
I'm beginning to realize that while I love iOS, most of the best apps have iPad versions. iPads are contract free/no monthly payments. I think the iPad is a great device for "creating" as well as consuming. And I use it like crazy for school (I honestly think it makes me a better student). So I don't necessarily need an iPhone anymore these days as long as my iPad is still kicking.
I can't wait to check out the Lumina, if I like it, I'll probably switch and see how it goes. If I hate it, I still have my 4S.
