Well, you could order from the Apple online store and still get your education discount. There's really no way that Apple can tell whether you're a college student or a high school student (or for that matter, even a student at all!).

I love to see that morals still stand tall around here.

well i dont really use low end computers...
my pc is at 3.06 ghz with a 250 gb hard drive
constant photoshop and maya 3d softwar is in use

i really would like to switch to a pro apple machine

Wow, so you're really willing to lie so that your ego can be saved?
Also, I think you should lie...because lord knows you didn't drop thousands of dollars on the legal versions of those two programs.
If you want a high end machine then you need to pay for it, in full. Think about the cost being offset by your software. ;)

PS: Maya an PS constantly running on macbook pro may not be in your future...despite the lack of the discount which caused you not to buy it, but then the possibility of lying like a cheap piece of crap reinventing the possibility, you may need a powermac if maya is always running and by running I assume it's rendering and not just sitting in the background so that you look cool with your "high end" PC and your expensive software.

So...you'll only buy if you can get a discount you're not actually eligible for?

Why not just go to your local Apple store, bring a handgun, wave it in the clerk's face, and get yourself a 100% discount? If you're going to cheat, go for the big time!

Thank you! At least there is someone here with some intelligence.

And yeah, I'm a total bitch, I admit it. But when it comes to lying so that you save 10% on something, I get to be a bitch. At least it's not immoral.

And a 3.06 ghz machine is not a HIGH END machine.

I think apple needs to get discounts for high school students as we are students too we have no more cash then University students.

When I was in highschool I had a ton more money than I do know. I had a job in highschool, and my parents paid for stuff. Now I am paying for school, and everything else that I buy. On top of that my schedule doesn't allow for me to get a job. So IMO highschool students don't really need the discount.

Ahhh good memories. Last year while visiting Chico, I saw that Mini Ipods only cost $230 and I freaked out. When I went to try and buy one I got rejected when they asked me for my student id card. Well that wasn't the end of that. I walked around the bookstore until I say the first girl I could find. I asked her if she would purchase the item for me, then I would pay her back. Well I went to the counter with her and the guy looked at me and said sorry you can't get one, when the girl turned and replied that she was my girlfriend, and was buying it for me as a one year anniversary gift. :)

Good memories.

sweet! :)

Allright-- Stick it to the man. ^__^

When I bought my PB, I got it for edu price even though I was still in highschool. I think it's silly that highschool students aren't eligible. Anyway, fortunately my mum was doing some post-grad study at the time, so I felt fully justified and legal in doing so.

If you don't want to do the morally wrong thing and just buy it yourself, get someone you know in tertiary education, or a teacher to buy it for you. ;)

I ordered my MacBook Pro online from the UK HE Apple Store. I saved myself £300 and I'm not even in education. They didn't ask me anything about my education status.;) :p

And board members do? They have a regular jobs and they get it.

So you don't make a moral distinction between a high school student trying to get a student discount, and that same student committing armed robbery? By your logic, the fact that I sent my ipod in for battery replacement before the battery ran all the way down is just as wrong, morally, as if I had killed a member of your family and stolen their ipod.

According to the guy that I ordered my computer from (with edu discount), Apple's "Fraud Team" will randomly check orders by having you fax in your information.

I would NOT try and cheat the system...

Except no one in his story died.

Years ago my wife and I had to fax them information from our school in order to qualify for student discounts.......seems like it might be easier now:)

Lets look at what is being bought. If you are running PS non stop then you probably don't want a new Mac Book Pro quite yet anyway. Remember, power users are rec. to wait and get them when the software is universal...you will be throwing away your money if you use it that much from what I hear...aren't I correct here.

by the way, stay honest...they do the edu discount for a reason...educators and people paying for their college are low on funds=- they need extra help. While it would be nice to have yet another high power machine (and nice to have you on the Mac side!) it doesn't seem(I may be wrong) like you are really all that hurting for cash...save your money and get one when the software will scream for you!

$2299 canadian, which is $2700+ with tax.
Umm... That price seems to good to be true  Candian dollars aren't worth much more than AU, but it's $3200 here. Ah well, sorry you aren't able to get one. I wanted one too, but $1940 edu for an iMac was the most I could spend. Can you find a friend that goes to uni or college to get it for you?

No discount? no Buy may be you saved money

I were the London Store last week and went to see new Intel Imac...
Thay looks identical but the super mac expert that was next to me told me are much more powerfull!!
Wow!
Well i'm not so much interested in Imacs but I want to have a first taste of new Apple products if the Coreduo gives 3/4 time the power of a 2.0G5 I cant wait to use the model that will replace the QuadG5.
Installed on the new mac there's the new Ilife, so i start playing with it... in 5 minutes i've seen an apple crash more times that in the last 2 years; expecially when using with the new app. Iweb.
Unortunately there were no other aplications to test but...for now i've seen enough.

My conclusions
Maybe better waiting at least for a cuple of years waiting for mac engineers to digest new processor architecture.
A Mac that act like a PC! Come on Apple! less Ipods more "best personal computer in the world"!

Funny thing is that the post you quoted by Portent wasn't intelligent at all......

Just buy it using the student discount. You ARE a student. I'd have an issue with a 36 year old engineer buying a MBP using a student discount, but a kid who's still in school? It's not a university, but still school.

In Ontario, where GST + PST is 15%, that $2299 MacBook Pro would cost $2643.85. I don't know how you'd pay "$2700+" with taxes.

As a high school student, surely you could walk into the local university campus bookstore and place an order there. I used to do that all the time. The campus prices were sometimes even a bit cheaper than the Apple Online Education website, too.

And yes, the Canadian Education store asks you to jump through a bunch of hoops where you must identify your province, then your institution name, then your student ID number.

Just ask a friend to order online through their EDU discount store. You've got to have a friend or family member that's in college.

To order through the education store with my university, you have to input your student id in order to be redirected to the Apple Store page. I guess they're trying to curb people taking advantage of the student discount.

^^How is that even a deterrent? You can input any student number and you'd still get into the site. They just want you to think that they actually check. In the US, they do check randomly. However, I'm not sure if this is the case in Canada. There probably isn't much of a real Apple presence in Canada, and so they probably don't bother having staff dedicated to checking on customers.

I bought my laptop at York University, and guess what? I had graduated from McMaster 3 months before and so I wasn't technically a student. I was accepted into a uni in Australia, but that doesn't mean I was eligible for a student discount in Canada. However, they still let me get away with it.

As long as you're a student of some sort, they don't really care. It's even easier online. ;)

When I ordered I told them my dad was a teacher and they never asked one thing about it.

BUT, I ended up cancelling my order because AMAZON was cheaper, even without getting the student discount. YOu can still get a macbook. Amazon has no tax, and will probably end up having a rebate on the computer as well. You'll just have to add some extra RAM yourself, which is a piece of cake.

Where in Canada?

I don't know where in Canada you are, but if you're in Southern Ontario, you might consider checking out iC superCOMPUTERS (http://www.icnme.com/). I've never been there, but I believe they are on First Nations land, and therefore don't have to charge sales tax, which would be a huge savings.
