I'm trying to decide whether to preorder the Note 4 and if I do whether to use the Best Buy or Samsung preorder trade-in offer.

The Samsung offer appears to be the difference of what your carrier gives you for your traded in smartphone and $200. The smallest amount eligible for the offer is $10 from your carrier for "any working smartphone." So if your carrier gives you $10 for your traded-in smartphone, Samsung will send you $190 (the highest the offer allows). You have to submit receipts to Samsung, wait for it to be approved, then wait 6-8 weeks for the payment. Offer:
https://samsunggalaxypromotions.com/Note4/

Best Buy appears to be offering a $200 Best Buy card at the time of purchase. You must use in-store pickup.
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/mobile-...-4/pcmcat341700050007.c?id=pcmcat341700050007

Did I miss anything? I am leaning towards the Best Buy deal, as it seems instant.

Some stores are no longer allowing pre-orders (at least in stores which is a requirement for the deal).

Pretty sure Best Buy is no longer allowing pre-orders (at least in stores which is a requirement for the deal).

Offer states it is valid 9/19/14–10/16/14

Valid 9/19/14–10/16/14. Ordering online or in store varies by carrier. Valid on purchase of Samsung Galaxy Note 4 on Verizon Wireless, AT&T or Sprint. Taxes/surcharges due at time of purchase. Taxes applied to price of phone prior to the gift card credit. Not all phones are eligible for trade-in and trade-in value may vary. Excludes phones that are cracked, water-damaged or that lack power. Not available in all locations and some stores may have additional limitations. Not compatible with other trade-in offers. No rainchecks. See BestBuy.com/TradeIn for full details.
*Online pre-orders must choose "Store Pickup" to qualify for trade-in offer.

Does matter when it's valid through, most people who have tried within the last 2 days have been refused since they've reached the limit for taking pre-orders at Best Buy. There's always a 'while supplies last' or 'subject to terminate without notice' clause in the T&C.

But do go and try, maybe you'll get lucky.

Ah I see.... well that was the deal I was leaning towards.

I will check it out on the order page.

Best Buy said offer is still in effect, and that it could even be used towards the purchase of the Note 4 itself.

Is the Best Buy deal for any smartphone or any smartphone (that meets a certain criteria..).

The phone I want to trade in is valued at $7 with Best Buy but valued at $10 with T-Mobile. Also, looks like Best Buy doesn't carry the Note 4 for T-Mobile?

Instant $200 is always better than waiting 2 months.

There shouldn't be a minimum value requirement as long as it's worth something. And Best Buy does not carry the T-Mobile version.

Doesn't look like they carry t-mobile: just AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint. At least for now.

I am confused by the offer though, as it is scarce on info and seems to contradict itself.

It says this at the top of the offer page: "Experience the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 in all Best Buy and select Best Buy Mobile locations and get a $200 Best Buy gift card at time of purchase when you trade in any working smartphone.*"

Then at the bottom it says: "Not all phones are eligible for trade-in and trade-in value may vary. Excludes phones that are cracked, water-damaged or that lack power."

So I really don't know what they mean by any smartphone.

The stores don't know that a$$ from their elbow, which is not surprising. From looking at the promo print it seems it has to be a smartphone, and one that has some kind of value on their trade in system, which you can look at on their website. One store told me it had to be worth $10, another said it didn't matter as long as it had some value, ie >$1 and was in good condition.

Being the lazy person I am I will just buy a Nokia 521 in store for $39 and trade that in. Most of the phones I'm seeing on Ebay that have some value are about $30 anyhow so it's about the same thing. I already got my $200 from ATT for my iPhone 4 trade in, and got my $180 credit from ATT for complaining so the Note 4 should end up costing me only a couple hundred overall. Granted the BB deal is a credit and not cash, but who can't use a BB gift card?!?!

While certainly true, the rep I had on chat said you could use it towards the Note 4 itself. I would take that option if available. If not the gift card...

The Best Buy employees and Samsung employees admitted to me that this whole thing was rolled out with very little info given to them. I pre-ordered last week, and plan to buy the phone at full price since I'm on Verizon and need to keep my unlimited data. I plan to trade in my old Droid Incredible that is going for about $20 on ebay. I confirmed all of this when I preordered, though I have a feeling that might give me a hard time about some of this. So far, I received conflicting info about the following:

- whether this deal applies to buying the phone at full price
- whether they will give me $200 for my Droid Incredible

If all goes well, I will sell my Note3 get the Note4 and it will end up costing me very little to do so. It was a no brainer for me....if however, they give me a hard time, I will raise hell...

The reason they say not all phones are eligible is because it must be in their trade in system. If you go to their trade in site, you can look up your device.

The GC can be applied to the purchase of the phone.

The Samsung deal will apply regardless of where you purchase your phone, be it BBY, carrier store or authorized reseller. You just have to be able to:

Provide preorder confirmation
Trade in receipt
Phone purchase receipt chowing trade in funds being applied to purchase.

You can use it if you are paying full price for the phone, but I've heard some stores say you can't buy the phone full price from BB, even though they list it that way on their website. Who knows what the real story is, but it's always good to be prepared, especially with BB.

Personally I've jumped on board with the next plan, I buy a phone every year without fail so I figure I'd avoid the hassle of selling it and just walk in and take my new phone once a year.

If you read the fine print you can only do one of the promotions and not both
If you go through the bestbuy route you will not be eligible for the Samsung promotion.

Consumers who receive an instant rebate at Best Buy towards the purchase of the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 are not eligible to submit an offer claim at https://samsunggalaxypromotions.com/note4.

I don't think you need to show the trade in funds being applied to the purchase of the Note 4.

I pre-ordered through ATT, if I go to a physical ATT store and trade in an older phone, there would be no way to use the trade in value toward my pre-order which I paid for already..

The guy at Best Buy told me that they don't support T-Mobile because Best Buy doesn't sell unlocked phones. :{ Otherwise I would've taken their $200 instant pre-order credit two weeks ago.

Wasn't what I implied. I was explaining how both promos worked but if you traded in your device but did not opt for the GC at BBY you should be able to get the VC from Samsung. Companies hardly ever let you double dip and if someone manages to do it, it is typically due to a slip up.

ATT charges you up front for the preorder? That's nuts! The last phone I purchased from a corporate store was the S5 because it was an exception but prior to that was an iPhone 3GS. I've always gotten them from BBY and they charge you 50 bucks which you get back in the form of a GC.

I haven't checked my credit card statement so don't quote me, it could also be a pre authorization.

We'll see when it comes time to actually pick it up, but I was able to pre-order based on a off-contract sale.

One thing that's unclear though is whether you can roll the $200 BB Gift card into the sale. I'm told no, with their logic being you can't roll the Samsung check into it either. One way you get a check, the other way you get a GC usable only one place if that's the case.

You can most definitely use the GC toward the phone. Here's the process:

They activate the phone in their system.

They process the trade in. During that process the system prompts them input the phone number that was upgraded. It finds it and enables them to check off the promo which will make up the difference between actual value and promo offer.

System spits out GC.

Pay for phone with GC.

I'm totally confused. I thought the $200 Worst Buy I mean Best Buy gift certificate could be used towards the new contract price of $299, thus bringing it down to just $99 when buying the Note 4 on a renewed 2 year contract.

Does anyone know the full price of the tmobile note 4? Is it $750 or is there a cheaper option?

So how does it work if I buy the phone off contract and don't activate it at time of sale? Off-Contract sales aren't exempted..

And no offense, I rarely see BB using the commonsense approach which is why I question this and it flies in the face of what I was told by BB> They WANT you locked into that gift card for the "next" sale...

Which the whole "pre-order" was frankly BS. Buy a GC that they hand right back to me for the deposit? All that does is guarantees I spend $50 on something at BB.

Last I knew TMobile was the only one selling theirs on the market and you're correct, it's at the $749 price.

Yes that will be possible. You will still pay an extra $15-$25 per month unless you are on a grandfathered plan but that's another topic. For the Next program you just get a BB gift certificate which is fine by me as I spend a ton of money there.

Of course BB wants you locked in, you are preordering something through them. I guess it's not a big deal unless you plan on returning the phone.

For full price/no contract I've heard different things from different stores. In theory yeah they should just use the GC off the full price, but ymmv depending on the level of intelligence you meet at your BB store.
