Note 4 vs Nexus 6

Very tough choice coming up. Being on Verizon it's been 3 years the last time a true Nexus phone has launched on big red. Vote and tell me why. Thanks!

I'm leaning slightly towards Note 4 due to awesome screen, features and Gear VR. Pumped about that accessory. I could live with the current iteration of touchwiz.
But with the Nexus 6 it will have a unlockable bootloader, be super fast with the latest software. Plus I can sale all my tablets with that 6 inch beast. I can only imagine over clocking the cpu to 3GHZ just for the hell of it. And I love he dual speaker and the look.

I somehow want both these monsters so I wouldn't have to choose.

5.7 vs 5.98 ....not s bug enough difference to matter.

It's touchwize vs pure android l.

Camera may be better on the note but don't know until we get the device.

Honestly smashing experience vs google experience...plus s slightly cheaper phone in the nexus.

I worry about two things on the nexus:

1. Battery life
2. Camera

Just because it has the same size battery doesn't mean battery life will be good. Maybe I am just used to some form of compromise in nexus devices, but there has to be a catch somewhere. Based on the new moto X I doubt the camera will be as good as the note.

I am also slightly dissappointed by any optimizations that take advantage of the larger screen.. It's just a blown up phone like the 6 plus.

No stylus, removable battery, expandable memory card and the Nexus is quite a bit thicker than the Note 4. Add insult to injury by pricing it almost as much as the Note.

I absolutely love my nexus 5! However, price is a factor there. If I had signed a two year agreement, I would have had much higher standards especially in regards to camera.

I also have to say, im not entirely impressed by the amount of updates on my 5. I think I've had 2/3 and no real changes, mainly bug fixes. I did have higher expectations there.

Im also not entirely enthused with android L. Seems very evolution. It's like ios 7 to 8.

Im not a power user so take the above comments in that context.

Don't forget google will replace your nexus, one time, for free if you break the screen. At least they do for the nexus five. Google it.

I hate touch wize.... So that's a big factor to me.

Also... Past nexus devices have had trade offs... But this isn't priced like a past nexus device. It's priced like a flagship phone, so it may not have the same lack of polish.

Is there any increase in Camera sensor size. Most of them are using 1/2.3" ones. We can only see big jump in quality once they start using 1" sensors. That will be the beginning of end of Point and shoot camera market.

I didn't even vote I am so torn.

I never thought I'd be considering a phablet but I'm tired of getting angry about the ever increasing sizes of android phones. Over 5" they might as well all be phablets as far as I'm concerned (I have average/slightly below average female hands in case you are wondering). If I have to use two hands anyway might as well get the best phone that I can?

The Note 4 stylus support could potentially be a huge deal for me (I take a copious amount of handwritten notes for work). I also suspect that the camera will be better especially in terms of ease of use if not overall image quality.

But...

If I am going to spend that much on a smartphone I want it to be supported basically forever and the Nexus 6 seems like that phone (plus I already know stock android). Android L seems like it will have some sweet features and I'd hate to miss out because of Samsung. I also notice that while Samsung will upgrade phones to the newest version of android they don't seem to update their skin on old phones (the Note 3 still doesn't have the new touchwiz ui of the s5?). That would bother me. Also the Note 4 notification shade is a mess...

Nexus 5 still going strong though so I'm in no hurry.

Nexus 6--the Android equivalent of my iPhone 6+. I don't need a removable battery, especially on these phablets that already have the best battery performance amongst smartphones and 64 GB is plenty of storage for my needs (prefer it all onboard regardless).

But anyone that's read my opinions elsewhere on these boards should not be surprised that the biggest reason is no Touchwiz for me. Regardless of bloat or lag, I cannot stand its design/layout/style and you cannot change much of it with a launcher. Everything is ridiculously large and overblown in size and these elements cannot be changed (notification panel, settings, etc). I have no need for the S-Pen on such a small device--owned a Note 2 and never used it then, was far more useful on the Note 10.1 tablet).

As past Nexus camera's have basically been crap I would be concerned about that element but otherwise, it would be a fairly easy decision for me.

As far as i'm concerned, other than the micro SD card slot and stylus, there's nothing else that the note offers over the nexus 6. Coming from a note 10.1 2014 owner, splitscreen and multi window is decent on a screen this size but i would have zero interest in using these features on a 5.7 inch screen. To me that would be an exercise in frustration.

In regards to touchwiz, for me its a mixed bag. There are some very nice features and i personally dont notice any lag but yeah its not pretty, quite bloated and can be frustrating at times.

Anyway its Nexus 6 all the way for me. The whole "no features to take advantage of its screen size" just sounds like a convenient excuse to me. Doesn't stop people from buying in droves the 6, 6+, iPad 9.7 & mini, Nexus 7 & 10 and any other device that's basically in its truest sense of form and function, just a blown up version of a smaller sibling.

Neither. Get a OnePlus One if you can get lucky and never have to pay over $500 or deal with a contract ever again! This industry is too nimble to be stuck on postpaid plans.

But IF I had to choose between the two, I actually like the Nexus 6's design and software over the Note 4 but the Samsung probably has better all-around features and retain a higher resell value in the long run. So Note 4 even though I like Motorola as a phone maker than Samsung.

I really can't choose until I've held the Nexus 6 in my own hands. As far as features go, for me the sheer screen size + stock Android weighs even with S Pen, multi window, removable battery, SD card and a probably better camera. If I'm feeling spendy in a week or two I might just pick up the Note 4 and then sell it when the Note 6 comes to Europe if I like the N6 better.

nexus 5.98 inch screen may just have the same usable screen area as the Note 4 5.7 due the navigation bar. I dont want a bigger and heavier phone with about the same screen area.

Does anyone know whether the L has a minimize-able navigation strip.

I can not see any clear winner, a 449-499 usd Nexus 6 would have made my choice easier...

i don't want either, but if I had to choose a phablet it would be the Note 4 simply because of the masses of extra stuff tailored for phablets. The nexus 6 may have killer specs but it is fundamentally like the iPhone 6+ , just an over sized version of the smaller devices.

Stop with the myth of lag, it's dead. Go read the Engadget review of the note 4 and see how they specifically state several times that they saw NO lag whatsoever. You can also read several reviews of the N4 which say the same thing.

Thats my thoughts too......what takes advantage of the extra size for the N6?
The N4 adds a few extra features and not just extra size......

Really? Do you have proof? Checkout the N4 thread with all the video reviews of the Note 4 or the Alpha....not one mention of lag.

All the video reviews say just the opposite....so unless you have video proof or have the device yourself.......
