Off topic, but anyone who grew up in the 80s (and even if you didnt) has to watch Stranger Things. Im only on episode 6 so far but highly enjoy it.

Oh god yes. STRANGER THINGS is the ESSENTIAL TV of 2016. It's been the best series I have watched in ages / years. I have binge watched it twice fully since it was released at the end of July :D :D Everything about it is just nigh on perfect, and as you say if you lived in the 80's as a child every reference will ring so true. It's just WOW - best surprise ever :)

I'd thumb up your post 5000 times if it let me just to show how much I enjoyed it :)

Have any of you actually got a HDR 4K TV and viewed HDR content?

I simply ask because as I purchased one only a few weeks ago and there are only a very few handful of 4k blu-ray that even support it, I'll be frank - after watching both deadpool and batman vs superman in 4k blu-ray with HDR on my shiny new 2016 10bit HDR TV - the difference wasn't really that different to watching the regular 1080p blu-ray on my regular 1080p LG TV in old fashioned 8bit FHD.

HDR is definetly nice to have, but the difference that the manufacturers are claiming it has on the end result and the difference all these artificial 'side by side' demos things show online - when actually in practice the real difference isn't anywhere near as clear cut. It's a modicum better, it's not like the leap from SD to FHD. I was expecting more, and whilst you do get 'more' its not the giant leap they are claiming.

Indeed I would wager the majority of users watching side by side between HDR and non HDR with displays calibrated to same - would not notice any difference at all.

I even paid more for a 2016 4K TV with 10 bit HDR because I bought into the HDR is the next big thing. But after now watching 4k blu-ray and 4k HDR netflix, i have a real suspicion it was just another 'tagline' that they can use to sell more TV's rather than this major tangible difference. It's almost like the new 3D.
I think a big plus for HDR is with streaming because the bandwidth requirement, by using 2K HDR is half of 4K HDR and few can see the difference. Is your player using the same HDR standard as your TV HDR 10 player Dolby Vision? Not sure how they play together in these early days.

Back to phone, Waiting for real world reviews but sounds like a winner, but would take a lot for me to dump my 6P.

Yeah both are fully HDR compatible with each other, I think it's just a case of 'the law of diminished returns' kicking in as far as the technology is concerned.

I love how Samsung keeps pushing the display bar higher and higher

This is the thing we do the the most with our smartphones: Look at them, read the text, watch videos....essentially interact with the screens. So display is arguably the most important aspect of a phone, at the very least from a hardware perspective.

One thing I like about Samsung devices is when you pay a pretty penny for them, you know you're getting an incredible display.

Absolutely love the S7 display with dark themes....saves a ton of battery life and it looks super slick!

Haven't seen a Note 7 yet in person but I can't wait to compare the display to my S7.

I can't wait for the S8 next year. :)

Gonna be getting one for my sister (who incidentally enough to this Stranger Things convo going on, is a huge fan of that series)

She's got an S6 edge right now and I'm hoping the S8 will be compelling enough for her to upgrade from it (I think it will)

My two year cycles puts me at the S9....which I am ok with. Imagine that phone!

I anticipate I'll be jumping to the s8 as well given how the iPhone and Nexus devices are shaping up this year.

And why shouldn't I seeing what Samsung is doing? They deserve my money.

[MOD NOTE]
The thread is off the bunny trail, lets bring back on topic please. A number of posts about netflix have been removed as they were not germane to the topic
