I have always had iPhones since the 2G, most recent phone was a 6 plus since launch. Still works great. I tried a Galaxy S3 a few years ago and returned it after a day, couldn't take it.

Picked up a Note 7 to try on Saturday and have been loving it. Lots to offer that the iPhone doesn't.
- always on display
- wireless charging
- screen is amazing
- size feels so much better than 6/6s plus
- expandable storage
- water resistance

But just this afternoon I find the honeymoon phase wearing off. The N7 hardware is awesome, but the software still isn't up to spec. Battery drains fast even after fine tuning lots of stuff, some random stutters all over, phone seems to get hot frequently, Gmail randomly stopped pushing, couldn't get an MMS message to send, a few apps take forever to load and hangup, etc... this stuff just doesn't happen on iPhones.

Best analogy I can make is Windows vs OSX. It took me two days to setup the N7 to work well, find all the right settings, turn off battery draining crap, disable bloat - whereas with iOS, you just turn the phone on and it works beautifully!

I will probably return mine later this week. I'll miss a few things, but in the long run I know I'll be happier with an iPhone 7.

Can't say I don't blame you, I get that honeymoon feeling every time I try and go back to iOS or OSx. We all need different things, and I'm definitely going to look at the ip7 and knowing myself probably buy one, but then sell it in a month, sigh.

You'll miss the speed of the Iphone and the fast fingerprint scanner, as well as apps like Imessages and facetime.

The biggest thing that annoys me is the lag and sometimes sluggishness in the Samsung phones, if you can get used to that then you'll make an adjustment to Samsung just fine :)

I think you'll miss this stuff if the additional features and functionality of Android don't trump what you're missing from the iPhone. Both iMessage and Facetime have simliar (and arguably better from a functionality standpoint) competitors. Granted if everyone in your network uses iOS then that in and of itself becomes a major driving factor into the functionality and usefulness of the Apple services.

In terms of the fingerprint sensor I also find Apple's to be way more reliable but my Note's is not bad by any measure, it's just not as good as my 6S+ which is damn near perfect. In addition, you gain a pretty functional iris scanner which should be tried before being written off as gimmicky.

The bottom line is that there are pros and cons of both systems. Some value the benefits of the walled garden of iOS while others loathe it. I've always been an Apple fan and pretty much exclusive user of iPhones since the 4. But they started getting stale and old. The products no longer wowed me, the Note does. Google services are way better than Apples (assuming privacy is not a factor). iOS is no longer buttery smooth like it used to be. Is a little lag on either OS really a dealbreaker tho? No software is glitch free.

Here's my advice to anyone on the fence. Go into the change with an open mind, don't worry about what everybody else is using, and see if switching to iOS/Android accomplishes what you're looking for. If it does keep it, if not, don't. It's that easy.

The one thing I would suggest tho is to switch to cross platform apps. Once you're over the initial change then it's actually so much better because you can jump back and forth between iOS and Android whenver you feel like it. Granted, Apple's products work the best when you're on all Apple devices with all Apple services but by no means do they work bad when using cross platform apps. Sounds stupid but i feel so much better now that i went cross platform because I feel like I have more of a choice when it comes to products that I like, mainly phones. DOn't have to worry anymore about which ecosystem i want to be in, i just switch to the best phone at the time and the cross platform services "just work".

Photo management is starting to become an issue for me. I have to buy the 128gb iPhone due to all my photos, and then I have to pay 3/mo for iCloud to back it up. I'm trying to research if sd cards and google photos would be a better/cheaper solution, which is a definite plus for the note.

So much better. Although if you're all in with Apple with a MacBook then I think IPL is the better option due to the fact that u can keep original copies of the photo on your Mac and backup to time machine Not too mention the more robust photo management options.

You can still save original images from your device to your Mac if you wanted. It might take another step or two but it can be done, the less closed system applications the better imo

So I powered on my 6 plus when I got home... now I'm rethinking. I'm going to give it the full 2 weeks, the iPhone just feels ancient in comparison. The N7 screen is incredible.

I am in the same boat, I have owned every iPhone but the 3G and the SE.

I was disappointed with the rumors of the iPhone 7 and so decided to give the Note a try, I have done this a couple other times and always immediately regretted it. With the Note 7 however, I haven't come across anything that I miss right now. I am pretty confident that I am going to really enjoy my year with the Note and I will see what Apple can do next year and decide what to do from there.

Why do you need the 128GB if you're using Apple Photos and iCloud? You don't have to keep your entire library on your iPhone.

Google Photos is great...I use it presently as a photo backup solution. What's often overlooked though is that the free option doesn't store your photos in their original format and you cannot save 4K video. You can do that on Google Photos but it'll cost you just like iCloud. And if you need between 100-200GB as sounds like you do, it's actually cheaper in iCloud as the next tier up from 100GB on Google Drive is 1TB for $9.99/mo.

Just something to consider.

Maybe I don't understand iCloud and photos.. if I have a photo backed up to iCloud I did not think I could delete it from local storage on my phone. I don't us my computer anymore as it's an 09 MacBook and I can't afford a new one at the moment. I have a mycloud hard drive that I use but that is not exactly easy to use.

You have the choice to keep the originals on your phone if you'd like. However, you can also choose to 'Optimize iPhone Storage' in the settings. Doing so will only keeps a portion of your library (uses some algorithm to decide what's immediately available vs. what would be downloaded upon demand---you'll have thumbnails of everything) on the phone and it'll flucuate based upon available storage. Your entire library of originals will be kept in in iCloud.

I choose the latter because I also have a large photo library. But as I don't fully trust any one cloud solution, I also keep originals on 2 of my Macs (same setting is on MacOS as is on the iPhone--Optimize or Originals), both of which are backed up using Time Machine (to 2 different external locations). I also use Amazon Photos (free unlimited as part of a promotion--Echo, I think) and Flickr (up to 1TB of storage for free) as additional backup solutions.

I ditched my iPhone 6+ and got the Note 7 on Friday, so far I'm loving the Note. There are Pros and Cons to both but got tired of Apples lack of innovation and the new note is sexy lol

I must have got a dodgy one after reading these posts i have a s6 edge plus, and it flies. Buttery smooth and lag free 1 year after purchase. Something is deffo wrong ... I think I'll get it back to the shop.. ;-(
My husband's S6 edge plus is really laggy but I'm sure that's just because of some dodgy apps he's got on there. He also doesn't maintain his phones well. Always smashing the screens and getting them all scuffed and damages every charging port and all the chargers until they longer works. At the moment his S6 edge plus has a smashed screen and the charging port doesn't work. He has insurance with his carrier but won't get it fixed, he keeps moaning on about not having time. Well I've had to take matters into my own hands. I've informed the carrier and they are sending a courier to collect his phone tomorrow. He was being ridiculous. His screen has been smashed since February and he's paying for insurance that he's refusing to use!

I handed him my S4 and note 3 after I'd moved on to other devices and within a week they were laggy as hell and wrecked. It's obviously something he's doing to them but he doesn't notice the lag and doesn't care about how they look.

Despite thinking I'll miss my 6 plus I'm bored of the same row of apps. The phone works but it just seems so dull and dreary next to my S7 edge. I love changing my themes and my keyboards to match.

I'm sure I'll love the note 7 when it arrives. I always lusted after the note edge when it was announced but it never came out in the UK until about 7 months later and was limited to one carrier. So having the note 7 will be like having the note edge.

If I miss my iPhone I'll just pick up an ipod touch or SE.But I'm going to keep all three phones for a while whilst I figure out what to do. I may as well keep them all until the iPhone 7 announcement.

I use icloud photo library with optimised storage and somehow I've only got 10GB left on my 128GB 6s plus. I pay for 200GB of icloud storage. I think it's reasonably priced. Better than Google drive storage . Google photos is taking too long to back up my photos. I had it on my iPhone for a week and it still hasn't finished backing them up and was really draining my battery. I've had to uninstall it.

6s plus to note 7. I'll miss the iPhone but that's because of how used I am to iOS. 6+ years on it, but after my wife having a note 5 for the last 8 months? I always wanted to pick hers up and use it. She too had iPhones for years and was very iffy about the switch but after a couple weeks? Hasn't looked back

Even offered her to take over my 6s plus when my note 7 came in, nope.

My note 7 runs awesome, looks amazing and feels amazing to hold.

I know it will take me a good while to really get used to android but i love to tinker and tweak things, I think this phones a beast with a ton of potential right out of the box

Me personally I would wait for the upcoming Nexus if you're going to jump to Android. I do consider the hardware, design and features of the Note 7 to be far superior to that of the iPhone and Nexus phones but for me it's the speed factor. I own a S7 and what bothers me are the hiccups, lags or the feeling of the phone bogging down at certain points. I don't want to entirely put the blame on Touch wiz but I know it's software related. I also own a iPhone SE, iPhone 6S and Nexus 6 and I got to say that all 3 of those phones feel more fluid than the S7. But when pushed hard my iPhone SE is the clear winner. I never have speed issues with that phone. Just look at the Note 7 vs iPhone 6S speed test. The iPhone destroyed the Note 7.
If there was a way to put vanilla Android with S-pen support on the Note 7 that would make it my ultimate device. Back on my Note 2 I did that but it's virtually impossible today. And with Android N feeling so nice on my 2 year old Nexus 6 I could only imagine how nice it will be on the upcoming Nexus devices.
So my vote is don't do it but I don't believe you would regret it if you did. Depends on what qualities in a device matter to "you". For me I want speed and fast software updates over design and features. I wish I could have it all but it's not possible today.

Yeah, it's too bad Google stopped the Google Experience program. A note 7 GPE would be a world beater.
