Note 8 Name Confirmed

Just as I thought and have been saying, Samsung WILL continue to use the Note name for its devices.
They have announced in their Korean news page, if you got a Note 7 you can buy an S7 or S7 Edge for half price which you can then trade in for the Galaxy S8 or Galaxy Note 8 when on sale!

Only for South Korea currently though. But they could still re-name the phone for the West.

There is a reason it's only for South Korea:

The iPhone 7 launched in Korea last Friday.
100,000 units were sold in the first day plus 300,000 preorders for a total of 400,000. it's a record for South Korea.

In comparison the s7 sold 100,000 units in two days in the Korean market, this figure includes preorders. 60,000 units of the s7 were sold ont the first day of release in South Korea.

This could be considered a double edge sword. The note overall does have a strong following. But with the 7 problems now it's either a good name or a bad business idea to keep.

They're not keeping the Note name. This promo confirms nothing. Just a placeholder for whatever they call the Note device next year. It would be branding suicide to keep the Note line.

I respect your view but there's those that would argue the opposite. And the fires are to the note itself, not the brand hence the continued sale of their Galaxy s7 and edge.

They could call it a Pencil 8 and I'd probably buy it, I'd wait a bit maybe, regardless what it's called, but if it was another Note or whatever they'll call it, sans fire, I'd be all over it.

I can't remember a time where Apple have been in such a pickle that they've had to offer a phone at half price to millions of users that have lost their devices through design flaws.

Samsung certainly don't match Apple when something minor goes wrong with your device. I know this only too well and recent experiences show not much has changed, especially here in the UK.

I guess time will tell whether it was the Note line that has been damaged or whether Samsung is the Jane that has been dragged through the mud. I've witnessed quite a few people referring to the fires on Samsung phones rather than the specific model.

Nope, just knew I was right when no one else here thought so, despite bucket loads if history of product recalls and names not being changed, or public perception changing, the endless shouts from people on here are in respect a COMPLETE contrast to previous history and facts.

I think it was perfectly reasonable to suggest Samsung might change the name of its Note line after the appalling handling of the Note 7. You may be patting yourself on the back and this evidently means a lot to you, but the Note 8 is yet to be received by the general public so we don't know whether keeping the name has affected them yet. They may ride the storm or it might be the Samsung brand that has been affected in the long run. Much of the media reporting has emphasised Samsung rather than the particular line so it's a case of wait and see.

It's not really about being right one way or the other but whether it'd be a smart move to continue the note name. But again you seem to have an emotional feeling toward Samsung which is odd.

I'm sure there's a "few" that would still try a new note device. Doesn't change that there's quite a few who were turned away due to the note 7 issues. And it's not for sport, it's because of the note 7 having a higher propensity to catch fire and cause harm.

Here is the problem, Apple and Samsung rely on massive pre orders and ride that wave of success. IMHO, the Note 7 was the best there is, (Without the fire) the Note 8 will probably be even better. I hope it gets the chance to prove it though. Many would not pre order, they would just "wait and see."

I say Note8 or whatever name they call it could be pretty awesome. The Note7 was really the Note6 but cursed by the fires from hell by the devil. Note8 is the real Note7 and number 8 is a very lucky number to the Chinese who assembles them. Yes, Samsung is South Korean but many of their phones are still made in China.

They better blow us away with this release.Apple is doing an entire iPhone overhaul next year.Samsung needs to shed the baggage of the Note 7 AND impress us with some out of this world design.Foldable displays and an 4K screen are my bets.Xiaomi already is rumored to come out with a foldable display smartphone so Samsung has their work cut out for them

Are you saying that there aren't things that have had their reputation damaged in one way or another (sometimes even just because of their name), even if just in perception, that either basically never came back or came back under some other name and/or in a somewhat different form? Doesn't seem like it's a given that one thing or another thing will necessarily be the result considering things could go either way.
