Exactly. Apple aren’t stupid and putting prices up in a year where global economies are on their knees would be a rather risky strategy. More likely the prices of the Pros will stay the same and the 12 Max will match the iPhone 11. The 5.4” 12 will likely be the big winner due to its lower price again and appealing smaller form factor which we know is generating a lot of excitement already.
I'm thinking that as well, because it seems it's an appropriate course to take, given where we are.

Of course, until the reveal we're just guessing...

There is a significant percentage of iPhone users globally who own older devices. It’s the same with any smartphone these days, you don’t need to upgrade every year or even every two years because the technology is so good. The Pro devices like every year will be less popular than the standard mid tier iPhones and there are tens of millions of people worldwide who will see this year as a big step forward in terms of upgrade. I’m on an 8+ and the iPhone 12 Max should be a big upgrade. It’ll be the first phone I’ve owned with FaceID and an OLED screen.

Don’t assume everybody is comparing the iPhone 12 to last years iPhones or Android handsets of a similar price because many really aren’t doing that. The comparison will be made on the device they currently have and whether it offers enough.

yep, you have an iPhone 8 so the 12 is an upgrade. However, all the tens of millions with anything newer won’t even bother with the underwhelming and months late 12. I know several who have switched to Android because the 12 is such a letdown, late and going to be super expensive. Apple screwed up every way they could.

Wishful thinking. Prices are of course going up and yes, Apple is that stupid and arrogant. They think they can literally charge whatever they want and their disciples will pay it. Dangerous game to play, many huge companies have fallen that way.

I wouldn’t say those with anything newer than an 8 won’t upgrade because people will. If the monthly cost is the same as what they are paying, then people tend to upgrade and have a newer phone. Most people I would say upgrade every 2 years due to 24 month contracts being so widely sold, so the 12 will be a significant jump. Not saying it’ll be worth it for Pro owners with 11 Pro’s etc but that’s up to them.

We don’t know that the iPhone 12 is going to be more expensive and you yourself just criticised someone here for quoting ‘RUMOURS’ as you put it, yet what you are saying is a rumour spouted originally by Youtubers. It’s unlikely the price will creep up considering public spending is down globally. Apple know their products appeal to everyday people and will want it to be as attractive as possible. Putting the price up just reduces sales and they don’t want that.

Well the iPhone 12 will be released to public on October 23. I have a feeling November 6th is when they will release the Pro models since that is the flag ship phone. Also, I really hope we are able to pre-order the iPhone the same night even though It’s going to be a staggered release.

Any 12 is a flagship phone. The days of only the fattest phone getting the extra camera and a bit more ram to drive that are long gone.

We will estimate the level of screwing up when the numbers for the quarter are on the table.
Anything 3 years and older is coming into the upgrade window which is a ton of people.
The vast majority don’t live of spec sheets and have zero intention to swap eco systems.
Anyone with a more modern phone newer than 3 years old is unlikely to upgrade anyway unless they’re again getting their excitement from a spec sheet - which is as usual almost nobody.

is your post sarcasm? When has Apple ever cared about “everyday people”? All of their products are considerably overpriced compared to the competition. The iPhone 12 will indeed be more expensive, the most expensive iPhone ever.

Their products are absolutely available to the mainstream. The fact that cheaper stuff exists doesn’t make theirs overpriced. It would not sell if the demand were not there hence the pricing is right. Not cheap but nobody claimed that.

Im sorry but a company who has phones that START at $700 and laptops that average nearly $2,000 in price are by no means products for "everyday people". Unless of course you live in Beverly Hills and consider millionaires "everyday people".

No it’s not sarcasm, it’s my opinion. You obviously aren’t old enough to remember the marketing philosophies Apple had if you make a statement about not caring about everyday people, that’s their market and always has been.

Which products are overpriced and compared to what products? Can you name comparative examples?

Also if the last statement about the ‘iPhone 12 being the most expensive ever’ isn’t pure guesswork on your part, under the forum rules cite your source please.

Define ‘everyday person’ by your understanding?

The majority of people in the US. Your average person who makes $34k-$36k a year and lives paycheck to paycheck. And those are rich people compared to much of the rest of world. What fantasy world are you living in where you think $1200 iPhones and $2k MacBooks are within the reach of "everyday people"?

why? No 120hz, no camera upgrade,

Actually, the rumored camera features include:

* Larger 12MP sensor: a 1/1.9” sensor will capture almost twice as many photons, giving nearly 2x low-level performance.
* Sensor-shift stabilization (for all lenses?).
* Additional lens elements for higher optical quality.
* Reduced focusing distance (2 cm closer) for macro photography.
* Improved Smart HDR (now called Smart XDR?) for better dynamic range.
* Enhanced night mode. (Now for all lenses?)
* Better autofocus due to larger sensor and LIDAR.
* Better portrait mode due to LIDAR.
* 240 fps 4K video.
* Bit-depth video.

This is why you look like a fool.

RUMORS.

None of those updates, even if true, will beat the P40 Pro or the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra. By camera upgrade, I mean a REAL sensor (1/1.28" or even 1/1.33"), a REAL optical zoom improvement and a megapixel bump. That list you posted is mostly all marketing BS.

I’ve never said anything about £1200 phones being in reach of everyday people?! Most people I know don’t buy £1200 phones but they do buy cheaper iPhones and so do I. Everyday people like you suggest there are the people I consider the same. I’m perhaps above that in pay scale but even I don’t buy stupidly priced phones. My wife does buy a £2k MacBook though every 6 years and it lasts longer than my Dell Precision workstation that’s for sure.

I’m sorry but I have no gene for drama. Something that makes more than 30% market share is mainstream. That accounts for iPhone and iPad easily. I don’t claim that they’re made for anyone but the vast majority can afford them. Macs were always pricier and have come down a lot over the years too. If you don’t like the price, fine, but again that’s decided by the markets and their demand. Overpriced products don’t get sold with the market share values above.

A real sensor? What bs. They are all digital cameras full stop. If you wanna do “real” - shoot film.

Making products for "everyday people" doesn't mean 100% of the product line has to be priced so every demographic in the world can purchase them. That's just some nonsense. It doesn't even mean 1% of the product line has to be priced at rock-bottom. That thinking is a binary interpretation of what was meant years ago.

An "everyday person" doesn't have to be part of the super-rich, if for their requirements they need the capabilities of a $2K macbook.
