I saw a post in another forum that Nvidia generally only supports their new cards on Mac when they upgrade them for the next Mac OS upgrade. Which, in this case, probably won't support the 1070 and 1080 until the follow on to El Capitan.

I just ordered a 970 this weekend for a new system I built. Unlike many, I never had any issues with my Nvidia 8800GT on my 8 year old Mac Pro.

And ATI/AMD's support on Linux has soured me on their line-up.

'Twice the power' refers to VR-Demo Mech VR. In reality GTX 1080 is 15 - 20% faster than GTX Titan X.

Still a nice upgrade: Price, 8 GB VRAM, 180 Watt TDP, 1700 (default) - 2100 MHz (OC) air-cooled.

It is nice, the 1070 is a killer bargain. The Nvidia demos were all done with the OC. So by default the 1080 is about the same performance as the Titan X. The 1070 somewhere between 980 and 980 Ti. But those scores are all Direct X based. Mac is another thing.

I'm 3,000 miles from desktop for my sister's PHD ceremony.

Can check tomorrow. Can make a BIOS only version of Mac 680 EVGA or an EFI version of whatever 680 bios you are using. I'd bet $50 it's user error here. If you understood how the EFI works you'd understand why I'm so sure. (Note to mods, not really suggesting gambling)

Leave it as it is no longer a big issue for me as I'm keeping the card unflashed with GT120 for boot screen if I need it. No web driver on OSX until I hear they fixed everything.

No no no, it's not just about you, but other Mac users as well.

MVC please carry out the check to confirm if Mac EFI can cause any crash / incompatibility. You are the most capible person here. I am apologies that cost you extra time to confirm something for us.

I just can't accept that "the same reference card" means "identical to the official Mac version" without any verification. Even a single resistor difference can cause the issue. It's hard to believe that the normal 680 and Mac 680 has exactly the same hardware (I am not talking about the spec, but really identical hardware, apart from the stickers, of course) and exactly the same BIOS (bit by bit, not counting the EFI part).

May be the Web driver is buggy. But I just don't like this way (jump to conclusion without proper verification). If we heading the wrong direction because of the wrong conclusion (assumption), we may never able to fix it and improve our Mac / OSX experence.

OK, we'll leave it at operator error if you aren't willing to stand behind your previous statements.

To clarify, Nvidia EFI CARDS HAVE NO WINDOWS ISSUES.

In fact, only place EFI is proven to cause problems are the Tahiti cards using SST 4K displays where EFI blocks boot.

Doom on the 1080. Vulkan three times faster than OpenGL

Before he can test we need people to replicate the bug from the examples I made for what is happening on Windows. Someone here must have some pro apps on Windows and a flashed card?

Back on topic.

Looks like the pricier founder edition is what nvidia ceo showed in his hands, the reference designed card.

Cheaper aib versions will come later.

Since micron havent started mass production of gddr5x yet we might see very limited availability of pascal cards on launch day.

I spoke about the Windows problem existing on the 680 with Mac EFI.

Ok for the Windows bug I'll restore the Mac EFI to the card and make a video. Someone else will then confirm if the bugs exists on 7 and 9 series.

For the OSX bugs, I don't need to replicate that because it's already on 5-6 forums. It affects 6, 7 and 9 series.

Hi Soy,

Just seen this post you made.
You mention OSX bugs in PS. I use a flashed ref gtx680 card in 10.11.4 and use PS....no bugs with resizing nor have I come across anything else. Can I test something for you?

I have just tried using all the latest Photoshop, El Capitan and web driver with only GT120 installed. The OpenCL resize crash bug and the brush artefacts don't exist with this card so it is only happening to 6 and 9 series card owners.

So, these appear to run on a single 8 pin cable.
Presumably we'll need to use one of these?

Is the rated power draw of a 1080 ok for our cMPs?

1070 and 1080 are 8 pin cards. No problem there. Wait for compatibility tests and benchmarks before being tempted. Some of us have a PC we have been waiting to upgrade (my Skylake is currently running only the iGPU) so we can also test in the cMP.

But AMD might come along and rain on the parade.

Please provide a link to these alleged EFI issues. I know theAMD PR folks would like to create the impression that Web Drivers have issues.

BTW, our Maxwell EFI shares NOTHING with Kepler EFI, completely different code.

But knowing how the EFI functions, I can't imagine real issues in Windows.

Netkas and I both very busy. We would like to do Pascal EFI if Nvidia includes them in the drivers. Sadly our sales have been decimated by all of the wannabes and "me too" EBay folks. Lost a lot of reason to bother.

But first we need to see if our friends at Nvidia are going to keep standing with us.

I wish you all the best! As a UK customer who purchased the "titan cooler" GTX770, I am still impressed with how the card runs, this would be a great improvement.

I would also personally NEVER buy from another seller apart from you.
