Sorry, no Mac drivers.
Yeah, you’re probably right. In a year or two, they might switch, but by then a lot of Mac users might have switched away from the Mac. Many will likely have switched to Windows and a handful may switch to Linux.I think there's basically no chance that there will ever be Pascal drivers for macOS. I think the only thing that would change this is for Apple to buy Pascal GPUs from NVIDIA for an official Apple product. Given that I think there's basically zero chance that this will happen, I think the web driver is pretty much dead.
Nvidia is going to release refreshed GPUs.Well, I believe GTX 1080 will be irrelevant this year since AMD are releasing the RX 500 series.
So...
Now, the hope will be AMD RX 580 or 570 will be OOB compatible...
Rumors say AMD 500 series will be on par with Nividia GTX 10 series.
I mean, RX 580 is on par with GTX 1070... and RX 590 will compete with GTX 1080 Ti and GTX 1080....
I think at a more affordable price.

I'm sure these will be OOB compatible with MacOS as soon as Apple puts one in a Mac.
In other words, probably 2018.
It's a Hackintosh specific issue. This won't be fixed by Apple, it's on "our" side. You have no idea what are you talking about. Since 10.11 sleep is broken with all AMD cards, even for the ones which worked OOB (without any issue). The Emoji MBP uses 400 series and still no OOB support in 10.12.
Please check this link and come back to tell me about OOB AMD GPU.....

Fl0r!an himself. It is "our" problem indeed. I don't own a cMP, but keep them relevant is very close to our hobby. It's a Hackintosh specific issue. This won't be fixed by Apple, it's on "our" side.
A RX 460 will work 100% OOB (including sleep) in a genuine Mac Pro, just without boot screen, like any other PC GPU. It's not unrealistic to expect the same with next-gen AMD GPUs as long as Apple provides drivers.
It really depends on which apps you're using. Some apps do well with AMD while others do well with Nvidia. Apple's apps do well with AMD GPUs, while Adobe's apps do well with Nvidia GPUs. Not to mention, a lot of Mac guys have switched away from Apple's apps over to cross-platform apps so they'll be ready to jump ship to Windows if they have to.Well, I believe GTX 1080 will be irrelevant this year since AMD are releasing the RX 500 series.

Like I said before, not all video editors are using FCPX. Some are using Premiere, to make the Mac-PC transition easier - just in case they end up having to switch to Windows to be able to get better hardware.I concur. So far, my RX 460 works OOB, including sleep, in my mid-2010 MP. And, yeah. No bootscreen. But, it's a plug and play thing so far.
*knock on wood*
or should I knock on aluminum?
J/K!!!
*Knock on wood, again*
PS--I am also hoping Apple puts an RX 500 series GPU in their iMacs. So far, the RX 500 series roadmap falls in line with upcoming iMac refresh. So... that would give more hope to upcoming RX 500 series being compatible with the classic Mac Pro's running Sierra....

I was just talking about Macs. GTX 1080 or GTX 2080 that is rumored to be coming out later this year is, TBH, irrelevant to Macintoshes the world over.
Why?
AMD!
Apple and FCP X, specifically, which is the app I care about, doesn't even use CUDA. But, OpenCL...
So....
PS--By irrelevant, I just mean, it will do diddly-squat for video editors...
PSS--I know, it's different if you wanna play games. But, then, you should just build a separate Windows 10 PC for that anyway...

Yeah. A really obscure one is Lightworks. Believe it or not, it actually has been used to edit a handful of large Hollywood movies. Some even use Media Composer on large Hollywood movies.

Good point. According to Wikipedia, the last blockbuster Lightworks was used to edit was Wolf of Wall Street in 2013. Though, it's no longer CLI-dependent - it's all GUI now. And it runs on Mac, Windows and Linux, which is nice.Recently?
They had their moment of glory at their beginning as their machine really emulated a good old Steenbeck. And you could edit without touching the keyboard or the mouse. But you needed an army of assistants who could use the command-line to do the project management behind the scene. They made a comeback, but is it successful these days? At least... it runs on Mac too!

One of most important infos from last time.
No, its not about Mac Drivers . Just Nvidia in general.
