CASLondon, I bought a RM650 from CORSAIR but have yet to install this power supply. Currently, i have the 6pin from internal and 8pin is from another pc 1000 Cooler Master Pro Silent power supply.

I'm doing an custom mount with the CORSAIR since its modular and will "jump" the power pin to a ground on the 20pin motherboard connector so i can control the power to the powers supply with it's on/off switch.

I'm following this:

but i'm consulting with one of our electrical engineers for safety…will report back what he says.

Thanks for the info. In terms of installing this inside a closed 5,1 mac pro, any guidance/advice/instruction? Is it fairly straightforward, or does this involve cutting/drilling/side panel off? I'm noobie to this stuff

CASLondon,

I had to do a hack on the RM650 to get around it being an internal power supply requiring a motherboard's power switch to be engaged… I used the following link to get the idea:
www(dot)techarp(dot)com/showarticle.aspx?artno=268
however, i did it differently…i cut the 24pin's cables just leaving the plug and 2" strands, used needle-nosed pliers to grab and twist out the other non-used wires, and then cropped to about 1/2 inch, stripped the ends, and electrical tapped the two wires. this allows me to plug in the 24pin plug to the RM650 and not have a dangling batch of wires to deal with. (i did this with the supervision of an electrical engineer)

My next plan is to either:

1.mount rm650 on top with mounting velcro ( www(dot)google(dot)com/shopping/express/?gclid=CMD6oLzk1r8CFc5afgodNkEApQ#ProductDetailPlace:id=16411012313223790340&cid=10570074903720104733&m=10048&mall=MountainView
) and drill a port in the side of the Mac Door to insert wires (they are short).

2. Figure out some "off the back/inline with the internal power supply" mounting solution as my mac is upright in the machine room rack, then buy longer cables and cut a port in the back mesh of the Mac… i might mount the power supply on a plate drilled to the back "handle" of the back (think of a car trunk wing)i don't have a height issue in my rack.

Currently I'm running the mac with the side panel off, i placed rubber feel on the RM650 and rested it on top of the mac. BTW, my mac in in a machine room so i'm not having to worry about Airflow/dust/etc…

once i figure out which i'll do i'll post it :)

hope this helps!

Lou,
is there a program/way to test if the gtx780 titan black is working in full capacity with this driver?

^^^^I use both Unigine Valley 1.0 and Heaven 4.0. LuxMark 2.1. And to check out Cuda there is Cuda-Z 0.8.207.
