I just got two Titan-X and put them into my Netstor 255A which is connected to a mid 2012 MacPro 5.1 One of the Titans shows up in the system profiler and works correctly while the other one is not recognized and no kernel extension is loaded.
I'm on the latest drivers: 346.01.02f03 for the web driver, and Cuda is 7.0.36 for the K5000forMac which is serving inside the MacPro for GUI purposes.
I am not familiar with scripting kexts - nevertheless I'd try since I need to get that second Titan running. Can anyone give some advice??
Thanks in advance guys!

Good news from Cubix, I quote:
"Cubix lab installed 2 x TITAN X in Xpander Desktop connected to Mac Pro 2012 or earlier running OS X 10.10.3 and this driver:

NVIDIA Quadro & GeForce Mac OS X Driver Release 346.01.02
Version: 346.01.02f02
Release Date: 2015.4.22
Operating System: Mac OS X Yosemite 10.10.3
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/84213/en-us

With this configuration, Mac Pro booted, loaded the driver and System Profiler listed both GPUs. BlackMagic Design DaVinci Resolve 11 listed both GPUs successfully as CUDA devices.

To run Resolve on TITAN X, install the latest CUDA 7 download:
https://developer.nvidia.com/cuda-downloads

This test also ran successfully with 2 x GTX 980.

Mix with ATI brings the solution for me

I switched my GUI-card from a Quadro K5000 to an ATI Radeon HD 7550 - now both Titan-X in my expander are being properly detected and the realtime playback rate in Davinci Resolve tells me they are now both really working.
I asked around in a COW-forum as well (https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/277/32963#32999) and there two guys were also able to get a Mac 5.1 on Yosemite with a cubix expander and various GTX-cards up an runnig with either a Quadro 4000 or at GT 120 as GUI-card installed.
I have no clue why all that is... Maybe there is someone out there with a deeper understanding of this matter whom I'd love to explain this.

Sorry for the newb question, I've reread the whole thread a couple of times but can't seem to decipher an answer to my question.

I have a MacPro 5,1 still running the original ATI Radeon HD 5870 card. No flash, no mod. I'm currently on Yosemite 10.10.2.

What do I need to get a Titan X to work on my Mac? Will a simple upgrade to 10.10.3 get me all the drivers and boot screen, or do I still need to flash it on Boot Camp? Do I still need to install NVIDIA latest drivers too? What would a mod with MacVidCards give me with this card?

Any recommendation between ASUS and EVGA at this stage? If I understand correctly, they are both stock cards so should be identical apart of customer service? Does that still matter if the card is installed on a Mac (and flashed?)

To make it work you will have to install the nVidia webdriver. If you want the boot screen your only option is to buy it from MacVidCards or send it to him for flashing.

I got my Titan X directly from Nvidia here: http://store.nvidia.com

You'll also need a 6-8 pin adapter here: http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Express-Power-Adapter-PCIEX68ADAP/dp/B001TK3TJY

Send to MVC with the $180 Flashing-only service.
http://www.macvidcards.com/store/p44/Nvidia_GTX_Titan_X_12_GB.html

Optional: EVGA sells a backplate for Titan X:
http://www.evga.com/Products/Product.aspx?pn=100-BP-2999-B9

Flashing gets you boot screens and it'll run in software mode without the Nvidia web driver - very slow and laggy but it lets you at least see the GUI and install the web driver easily. Otherwise you'd get black screens and have to do something like screen share or SSH into your Mac.

I am not up to speed concerning Nvidia. Can someone summarize this cards benefits (strong points) in a few sentances? The amount of memory is obvious. It has many CUDA cores, right? Is this a strong compute card, or is it a strong gaming card, in the Nvidia universe?

The new Titan X is pretty clearly a strong gaming card. The older Titans used to have good double-precision performance that made them good intro level compute cards, but the new Titan X loses that double-precision performance. It might be a decent compute card if all you need is single-precision performance though.

Show me something in OS X that uses Double Precision.

I never could find anything of much importance, other then a Double Precision Benchmark

Just an update.
This is what I have tested so far:

I updated my Mac Pro to Yosemite 10.10.3 with the latest Cuda and Nvidia drivers while I'm waiting for my GTX Titan X ;o)

Primary card GTX 770 4GB --> no problem
In Cubix, 4xGTX Titan 6GB --> only 2 are recognised by the system

To be noted, that I do not have anymore screen flickering issue under Cinema 4D R16 with TFD v1393 running on one of the GTX Titan available.
No issues noted with Octane.

Hi, I have a Mac Pro 5.1 , I would like to know if I can install an Nvidia Geforce Titan X using only the new drivers provided by NVIDIA .

What are the problems ?

Use mainly Adobe After Effects and C4D

When flashed, the GTX Titan X works fine in OS 10.10.5.
I'm using as well C4D (and TFD), AE, Nuke etc... and everything is working very well.

Thanks for your answer.
I live in Italy and here, I can not find a company able to change the parameters the video card.

What happens if I use the Titan X no flashed ?

Thanks

It should work fine. You just won't have a boot screen.

To make things simple, be sure to install and enable the Nvidia web drivers before installing the Titan X.

Thanks for your answer. You've already tried the Titan X in the Mac Pro ?

Which model of Titan X do you recommend in particular ? Which power lines must be purchased?

Which version of OSx work?

thanks

I have not tried a Titan X personally. I have a GTX 980.

Which model of Titan X do you recommend in particular ?

As to which model of Titan X, that's for you to decide. In my opinion, it's best to try and stick to something as close to the reference model as possible. I would also avoid the ones that are overclocked because the Titan X has a TDP of 250W and overclocking will just push it further.

Which power lines must be purchased?

As far as I know, the Titan X has one 6 pin and one 8 pin power connector. Therefore, you will need:

http://www.amazon.com/PCIe-Power-Cable-nVidia-Video/dp/B0045Q8F84

http://www.amazon.com/PCIe-Power-Cable-nVidia-Video/dp/B002UR1654/ref=pd_bxgy_147_img_y

(Disclaimer: I have never purchased these cables. I just found them after a quick Google search.)

Which version of OSx work?

To use a Titan X, you MUST use OS X Yosemite or above along with the Nvidia web drivers. Older versions of OS X will NOT work.

Thanks for the information, which model of GTX 980 do you have? It's work well whit After Effects? maybe i chose these video card because is more cheap. For Ae and C4D is not slower than Titan X.

Which cables do you need for GTX 980?

Thanks

I use an EVGA GTW 980 with reference cooler. Sorry, I don't know how it performs with After Effects. My GTX 980 uses mini PCI-e 6 pin to 6 pin power cable.

I imagine "boot screen" is the grey screen with the apple logo and the small status bar? What about the login page? Will I see that one?

Good question... I was reading some CC 2015 apps just updated their OptiX Library to allow for "unofficial" support of the Maxwell architecture with the GTX 970 and 980 as far as being able to be enabled. The GTX980 is available with After Effects CC 2105 on my Mac Pro. I'm trying to find out if this latest adobe update also allows the 980 Ti and Titan X to be enabled.

If the answer is yes, then I'll be in the market to switch to a 980 Ti or Titan X.

Bought a vanilla Titan X direct from Nvidia:
http://www.geforce.com/geforce-gtx-titan-x/buy-gpu

Sent it in for flashing service by MacVidCards:
http://www.macvidcards.com/store/p44/Nvidia_GTX_Titan_X_12_GB.html

6 to 8 pin Startech adapter from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/StarTech-Express-Power-Adapter-PCIEX68ADAP/dp/B001TK3TJY/

The flashing service is well worth it, IMO. Very useful to have a visible screen for OS updates, boot drive selection and troubleshooting. Not having a visible screen would make these things 10x more complicated than they need to be. That $180 will pay for itself in the time and frustration you end up saving.

The answer is yes. The 980 Ti appears in the GPU section of After Effects as enabled.
