Right here's the deal - just called o2 now.

I asked the operator if io2 would charge me for changing over the VPN to mobile.o2.co.uk. She spoke to her manager who advised not to change the VPN over as it will charge me.

Earlier on this morning, o2 operators were telling people to change the VPN over and they would be refunded for short term effects. This is now not the case and she has warned that any VPN change usage from a few hours ago will not be refunded. She also told me that they were advising against the change to mobile.o2.co.uk because the change over and rush of demand was actually making the situation worsen and the problem longer to fix.

Don't know what anyone makes of that but her manager was strict on the fact that there would be no refunds as the problem should be fixed this afternoon, in a few hours time.

Just to let you all know!

Thanks for the info.

just had an txt from an unkown saying "permanent-service-denied" then my internet started working again

woohoo back in action again

They will get absolutely spanked legally if they try that one.

See that's what I thought, no announcement or anything. Will be interesting to see what problems stem from this. Called for a second time with my other number to ask the same questions and got the same answers. Typical o2.

Down all day yesterday in Essex. Today in East London it works, but I constantly get pop ups saying 'Could not activate cellular data network', even when sending texts/doing nothing requiring interwebs.

Mine has stopped working all together now. o2 are really getting on my nerves recently.

Also getting "Can't activate cellular network" in SW London - have had it for a few days now (my emails were last updated at 16:34 on 19th December).

I'm still having issues - first noticed a problem on Thursday 17th, no Internet, 3G weak as hell- flew to Liverpool from Belfast on Thursday, same problems there. Flew back to Belfast today and the problem is still hanging around: 'PDP authentication failure', 'could not activate cellular network' etc. Really irritating because I was travelling and missed loads of emails and couldn't use google maps on the go:mad:

Can't get 3G now, right pain! Been around Chi/Winchester/Portsmouth area. Seemed to have lost 3G everywhere, anyone else got issues?!

Also is this statement true...?

It's just the data network. not telecoms

Probably snow or ice has got into the system!! :D

lol we really do grind to a national halt with even the slightest snow... That said, there has recently been a big dump on the south

3G down in Oxford again. I am jumping ship to Vodafone when my 18 month expires in January. My memory from before is that they're better. I'm going to trial them now and then decide who I want to renew with when the June refresh comes.

What's the best voda tarrif? How are you going to trial other networks, my contact is up Feb 10 aswell

I think we're going off at a tangent here! O2 have already confirmed this is a technical issue relating to the allocation of IP addresses. How did the weather come into the discussion?

Sorry.... Missed the technical bit and assumed weather. I've had my share of weather + network issues over the last couple of years given the places I've been.

Well o2 were kind enough to unlock my phone so I can put any sim in.
I've shopped around and the best deal I found was vodafone: £20/month with 600 minutes and unlimited texts. When I said I have an iPhone they were like "oh you'll need Internet ok well give you free Internet too"! So it's a good deal. And I reckon the iPhone gives you quite a lot of bargaining power. We're a lucrative customer!

On another note, my home Internet went down too, leaving me totally disconnected!! Home and mobile Internet remain down for me; Ive registered some vodafone sim card I had lying around and topped it up to get online. I swear it's faster than o2
