I don't think throwing goodies at you for £20 a month is overly profitable for them, and it isn't as though they're subsidising the phone, so not really any different to anyone else who went on the same plan without an iPhone.

Agreed. The short term rolling contract doesn't get them much money.
But they realize that the majority of iPhones are on contract, and the owners are likely soon to get a new iPhone and renew their contracts.
That means handing over about £1000, perhaps more.
Ok so apple takes a cut, but that is still a lot of money.
 
I activated my pay&go iPhone on o2 last night. 3G data was downloading earlier (slowly?) but now I'm not getting any. It seems o2 is still having data issues, unless it could be because I had to restore my iPhone? but all the settings are correct..

I'm in Nottinghamshire.
