There's a lot of sycophants that's for sure

Me personally I only use those Apple products that I enjoy, if there's a better alternative I will use that instead. I love my white iMacs and my PB but for more modern things where I need power I'm on PC right now. Big Sur is just not my thing and I'm not in love with their hardware right now either, even that it has definitely improved in the last year or two.

Anyway, there's this incredibly annoying phenomenon I've experienced multiple times. Most the other users are like..offended; if you don't agree that the newest and latest thing is best thing and everyone should be using it. This thread is a perfect example.
This ties into the discussion that you, myself and many of the PPC regulars took part in almost a year ago. As a result of these asinine attitudes, I no longer visit the LEM FB group and I confine my MacRumours posts to here and the newly established Early Intel forum - which I regard as a companion piece to this forum. As I've previously expressed, these people are particularly annoying because they're acting as unpaid (and unwitting) enforcers on behalf of those who profit from the forced and planned obsolescence that has saturated landfills with perfectly usable technology.

I've gotten downvoted on reddit, and I'm pretty sure I've been asked if I tell kids to get off my lawn twice on this site just this week alone.
See above.

This is the kind of behavior that makes me not want to visit the other forums. It's like talking to a wall lol. Everyone should be able to have their opinion for their specific use cases and not be ridiculed if it doesn't fit the echochamber.
That should apply right across board in all areas of discussion but the zealots, the irrational and the unhinged have made this all but impossible. YouTube's comments section is particularly toxic.

I don't hate new technology either, most of it is great.
I'd wager that we all share that perspective because it's almost certain that practically every member of this forum has old and new tech alongside each other. Unlike others, we possess the intellectual maturity to appreciate the merits of both. :)

You guys always have great points. I definitely need to stay out of the other sub-forums. I do have a slight interest in the ARM Macs. However I highly doubt I'll own one any time soon.

@TheShortTimer I thought we did have a similar conversion like this before but I couldn't remember where.

Also I love the replies on that other thread from you guys. I don't think they were expecting anybody else like me to exist lol. I wonder if any of them even realize there is a PPC forum or early intel one. I feel like they'd think it's crazy there's actually posts in here from this century lol.

Truth be told my 23" ACD is getting a little "ghosty" if I leave it on one thing for too long (it still looks brilliant with games IMO). If I ever get a new one it will be a 1080, as I don't particularly feel like my RX 590 would be able to handle cyberpunk on high with anything above that...

I no longer visit the LEM FB group
I actually left FaceBook last summer and haven't looked back. I miss some of the groups, PPC gaming lounge to name one. And quite a bit of car groups. But, for the most part I've been a lot happier since.

The iPhone forum has for a long time had a strident anti-Android bias. While some bias is expected on an Apple-centric forum, this has been quite prevalent. However, in the last couple of years as more and more Apple product owners begin to own both iPhones and Androids this has quieted down.

I call out the bias when I see it, particularly the mic-drop "Go buy an Android" posts. Those usually come about because someone is asking about, critiquing or complaining about a particular iPhone feature or something that bugs them about Apple. It's not cause to throw the baby out with the bathwater, but you have those people in there that can't deal with any criticism of Apple, no matter how insignificant or warranted.

It's funny because I've been slammed a few times for commenting on things because I have an Android. Well, yeah, but I also have five iPhones, an iPad and Macs out the wazoo. Like you, I use the tools and products I wish to use. For awhile now, that's been Android for my primary phone. At some point it'll be iPhone again.

A lot of it I think is people projecting. If it's good enough for them, it has to be good enough for everyone else so if someone isn't using what they are then they are inferior. Which is just a bunch of hot garbage.

This kind of person only sees themselves. Unless they are doing it, involved in it or somehow attached to it, it does not exist. Other people in the world are merely there to round out their own lives. It's a self-centered arrogance and nothing outside of what they do or are involved with has merit - because if it mattered, they'd be involved in it.

So, they justify slamming others because they are inferior.

Truth be told, let's hope "they" don't find us here because I'm really not looking forward to reading any "OMG you're all sooo crazy" kind of BS here. But yeah, I'm staying well clear of the other forums here besides the Early Intel and PPC ones for the exact reasons mentioned.

OMG. That's kindergarten nonsense.
Yeah, some people check out emotionally at a certain point. I've known people that decided at a certain point that they knew all they ever needed to know and refused to learn any more. People get stuck and don't want to make the effort to grow for any number of reasons.

Affirmation of personal beliefs is all that is sought.

Trust me, "1080" blows. Get a 1920×1200 (16:10) one like your ACD. This makes a huge difference in anything but gaming.
1200p is great res. It seems a bit small to me now though using 1440p... I wonder, how many in the PPC/Early Intel community are using 2560x1600? 30" monitors are nice but man I don't have the space for that here

What I am using…keep in mind that the W55 is my 55" HDTV and is capable of higher resolution.

I love my 23" Cinema Display, it's a decade older but WAY better than the crappy HP it replaced, which was 1920x1080. I want a 30" CD but they're too expensive and it would take up my entire desk! I'm always hesitant to try out better monitors because for me once you upgrade you can never go back.

I would love to see Tiger running at native 4k. I have a Mini plugged into a 4K set but it only runs at 1080p so for the desktop it's absolutely useless, but in Front Row or other media apps it works fine.

1680x1050 is a res that I used for many years. To me, it's just about the bare minimum I can use as a daily driver. 1920x1200 gives just enough extra though.

I assume the HP is a TN panel? I cannot stand to use TN panels anymore, the color shift drives me nuts and I always find them to be washed out.

I wouldn't be surprised if I get a 30" someday, but it will be once I am back in a location where I have the space to manage it. Definitely a good point about being unable to go back, I have a 1440p and 1200p monitor side by side, and the 1200p res seems like 900p used to now.

I am getting to a point where I'm not so in to the whole six displays thing. After my last realignment I've decided to pursue a four monitor set up. However, a large curved display would be the primary monitor with two outboard displays (perhaps vertical, IDK) and then the HDTV.

As much as I like the 'U' set up of five monitors (and the HDTV above) it's just taking up too much room - and I'm not willing to try and give it that much room anymore.

It probably was TN, I think it was a total bargain basement model I got just so I could have something to look at till I found a better one.

I have two 24" displays in the garage that do 1920, but those aren't mine (work issued). It's nice having that amount of screen space. As great as my 20" Cinema Display is, and I have enjoyed using it since around 2014, I think it's time to move on. Once I can secure what I want, it will go back to working with the old Quad G5.

Surely it ought to be difficult to use with that refresh rate though
Yeah, it gets annoying for anything but mostly static stuff like PDFs and browsers I use for reference. With that being said, I get 32.6 Hz when driving it from my main box.

Highest I've seen Jag at is 1440p IIRC, so that is probably interesting too.

I couldn't think of a better place to post this and it seemed half-relevant.

I've been browsing some of the other forums a little bit, mostly if I see a topic that catches my eye on the side bar of the home page. I usually go there just to see if there's any cool new things I might wanna know about.

I don't hate new technology either, most of it is great. I dislike dongles and soldering, but I have issues with new software too. If I want my own perfect modular modern machine I can build one out of parts from newegg or wherever.
You know, I see this, and just think about my goto laptop. It's a Dell Precision M6600, from 2012. The thing was free to me, but I've put quite a bit of money into it. A quad core i7 2920XM, a Quadro K4000M, 16gb of ram, an ssd and a hard drive, and by all means, I could have bought something new with all of that money. But I already do have something new.

So you might ask, why do I use this? Because it's a 17" workstation with three usb2 ports, two usb3 ports, vga, hdmi, displayport, bluetooth, two hard drive slots, optical drive that can be swapped for another hard drive, and an msata ssd slot. And frankly, as long as I'm not gaming, it can do anything I want, do it comfortably, andI can't begin to express how solid this thing feels to actually use. It's a little hard to express how Dell and HP laptop workstations feel. Certainly I do have my eyes on a replacement, but I'd be spending about $1000 on what I would want. And that's before I would upgrade that, too. The funny thing is that it would still cost less than buying a current workstation or a gaming laptop.

And really, upgrading has more to do with me thinking about the future, I'm doing fine now. So why do I need a high end new computer? And what's more, why do I need someone telling me to upgrade? There's a reason these old workstations still sell for $300-$500, and it's not like they're collectable.

I started out on a B/W luggable. Resolution was not even a thing then. Spent 3 years doing huge spreadsheets and databases on a DX2/66 with a 1024x640 screen before I got a sniff of a Pentium and finally a 17" monitor. Whoopee!

The worst thing was this mouse I really should have thrown out on day one. Nearly gave me RSI.

My first mouse purchase (some time in 1990-91). Expensive to me, but what I wanted because I used my 286 to play games. Really nice once I got the software installed (have the disk somewhere). I would still use it, but the interface is long dead.

What is that? It looks like a serial mouse but is it something proprietary? Apart from my Sun mice, I have an MS Logicport mouse somewhere with the ISA interface card but this looks different.
