The easiest way to jailbreak 1.1.3 is to use iJailbreak. they just came out w/ a new release and it worked perfectly for me. All you have to do is plug in ur ipod, click jailbreak and it does almost everything for you. all you have to do is that soft upgrade on installer, then it will show a spinning cog for about 5-10 min. finally it will restart, and you click through the few final steps, and voila...you have a jailbroken 1.1.3 ipod touch with the iphone apps, the wiggle feature and webclips all enabled. i couldn't be happier!:D

I think this uses the leaked 1.1.3 jailbreak for the iPhone. You are running iPhone firmware, not iPod touch firmware if you use this method.

Please correct me if they've updated it to use the official dev team jailbreak.

What are the negatives of running the iphone firmware if, in fact i am...

I used the ijailbreak method and got the apps...
the process is very automated and easy

So everything's good yeah?
I'm really considering it but don't really wanna screw my nice 1.1.2. Also, do you literally have to reinstall the apps once you're done and they're as you left them?
Tahh

Yep, pretty much everything was intact. Had to reinstall openssh though. And the symlink to my Applications was gone, so had to make a new one. But the all my apps were still in the place I left them. Settings etc were also preserved.

I used the iJailbreak method, btw.

A question:
Is the 1.1.3 Jailbreak by the Dev Team down right now or not working as of 1/27 5:52 PM? It is the one with 592.7KB, I have been waiting for 1 hr. 30 min now. I hope I haven't screwed it up. It is not exactly "frozen" as the clock is still working, but I think I saw the Installing package... bar move once. I have been doing this since 4:10PM.

Did this and it worked... I then added the apps that I bought and those also work. Though, I installed about 3 apps and after that everytime after it downloads and goes to "Installing" it crashes...

I know I had this problem in 1.1.2 and I solved it by doing the app space limit hack... but I'm not sure now, since I only have 3 apps installed lol

Any one else have this problem and know a solution?

i had to reinstall apps. i think this was because i didnt follow instructions so i had to go to 1.1.1 lol. yea but when i actually read what to do it worked great. i would just ftp to ipod and drag apps and stuff to desktop and then put back on. i wish i did that haha

but yea right now everything is good

Could you post how you re-did the symlink, that's the main thing holding me back :)

I haven't re-created the symlink or moved my applications folder yet, but instead have moved the fonts folder. If someone is certain that moving applications folder again wont harm anythung, then I will at a later date.

None of the "jailbreaks" out right now are real jailbreaks. They are just soft upgrades, they don't break the jailb of your iPod touch, so it is best to wait until someone actually makes a real one in the future.

Bitter.

Ah well, I'm on a JB 1.1.3 so I'm not fussed ;)

Slip,I moved my applications folder and updated fine. I did however delete all of my apps, just t try and make the process smoother but I'm pretty sure that if you keep them there they will be fine.

The 'official dev' method seems to be the best, and is the one I used.

1.1.3 Jailbreak Status

After spending an evening of observation over at the ipodtouchfans forum, IMO, none of the 1.1.3 JB's should be undertaken, unless the user is accomplished at tweaking and fiddling with the iPod touch OS and willing to burn some time.

Even the newer offerings released tonight, which were supposed to be pretty close to perfect, developed hiccups when exposed to the scrutiny of multiple installs.

This will all be corrected in time; just how much time remains to be seen. The people dedicated to the various methods are passionate about their quest and all must be commended for their efforts. They will generate a working solution.

The other obvious question is: is this jailbreak worth it with the SDK so close? The answer probably rests with your own spirit of adventure, your quotient for tinkering and how much your time is worth.

Happy hacking.

This is the method that I used:

My purchased January update apps sync'd back, DRM seems to be working - at least I haven't come across any iTunes purchased tracks that don't play, installer works fine, no space issues yet, and I'm on my third springboard screen of apps.

I've done 4 1.1.3 jailbreaks in the last 24 hours, and this was the most pain free. It's not a "one click jailbreak" but the instructions are clear and concise, its not difficult even for a newb.

Just my .02 pesos worth.

That would be nice, if you are actually using a jailbroken iPod. The "jailbreak" you are referring to is actually just a soft upgrade. But that is ok, you can refer to it as that if you want, but the jail isn't actually broken on your iPod. You just have SpringBoard overwritten. Which allows you to install 3rd party apps and such like a jailbreak, but it is not as efficient. I am just going by what the dev team says, and other knowledgeable iPod touch users. Enjoy your upgrade though for now. It is only a matter of time before a true jailbreak is released. According to rumors, the dev team has a second method to do a true jailbreak that will be released after the SDK. Let's hope they do.

Oh yeah I know, 1.1.2 and .3 have been the updates, all I was saying is that I'm not really assed how it's accomplished, it's just nice to have ;)
