I've found that I could be using one since the day it was announced. My greatest fear is that when the wifi model is available I'll succumb to temptation and not wait for the 3G model

I'm not worried about that. The 3G model (with GPS) will be much more convenient for me. Waiting.... :)

I have that problem solved, my daughter is getting the WIFI one as soon as it is released. She got it for her birthday back on the 2nd to replace her dying iBook (ironically!).

That means, i can play/steal hers while waiting to save up the money for mine with 3G! LOL!!!

hilarious or sad, i cant make my mind up...

funny how jobs has really made people totally believe they need something that they didnt ''really' need before the iPad was announced....because laptops were just fine in bed....

Not sure if you are baiting or not, but I've been wishing for a long time for 'a larger iPod touch'.

My iPod touch completely changed how I interact with the internet in a casual way. My laptop stayed downstairs almost all the time, and every quick 'let me check xyz' was replaced by the touch.

I even stopped taking my laptop on 2-3 day vacations because the touch was good enough.

But I constantly wished it was bigger.

Steve didn't convince me of anything, he unveiled exactly what I wanted. That said, I do wish it had flash with built in 'click to flash'.

Take the best things about the iPod Touch, now make them even better and throw in a larger screen and a 3G option.

Pure win. It's brilliant because the idea is ridiculously simple and so obvious. Of course, THIS is how tablets/slates/pads should have been all along.

Once again, it's Apple making things better by making them simpler.

I'm with you. I'm currently reading the Wheel of Time series for the first time, and I'm having to do it on my iphone which is terrible because of the small screen.

I'm also about to go on vacation a couple weeks before the ipads release. I could really use one on my vacation. :(

I'm jealous! I wish I could go back and read The Wheel of Time for the first time all over again... ah, memories. I've read them all, of course, and listened to the audiobooks for them all as well (which I highly recommend you do for your second "read through"... different experience, imo).

Actually, haven't read the newest book yet - listened to it (time constraints, so had to listen while driving to work and back over a few weeks), but it'll be my first iPad eBook read.

I have been wanting something like this since the iPhone came out. Besides just reading, I can almost replace my Macbook Pro with the iPad since the Macbook Pro is already basically a slave to my iMac. Since iWork is on iPad, that takes away one of my main reasons for the laptop.

The only other thing i really use the laptop for is a music writing program called Guitar Pro, which is also in development for iPad.

Very happy.

The biggest thing I am excited about is the video playback. When I exercise, I put my iPhone on the leg of my aerobic equipment, I the screen is not the greatest at that distance, but I get by. This will be much better.

I remember how easy carrying around the Macbook Air was over the Pro (although I couldn't justify keeping the Air due to all the hardware defects), and the iPad is half that weight.

I really don't need a fully capable computer on the go at all, so the iPad will be a great companion.

There's going to be an iPad version of guitar pro?
Where did you hear that?
I was looking forward to using TabToolkit, but Guitar Pro would be a step up from that. Do you have any info on this?

From the Guitar Pro Facebook Page. Guitar Pro 6 will be out in April (and it looks incredible!). The creators said they are most excited however for the iPad (no date yet).

I'll check that out, thanks a lot (Didnt know they had a FB page)

Couldn't find anything about Guitar Pro for iPad on their Facebook page, oh well, thanks anyway.

Honestly, I just sold my MBP in anticipation of getting my hands on an iPad day one.
You may be a perfect example of why the iPad isn't any more than it is. If you're willing to use an Ipad instead of a MBP, then clearly Apple needs to be concerned about cannibalizing it's own MB and MBP sales with the iPad.

Must suck for Apple to get a MacBook Pro sale, then an iPad sale. And maybe some acessories. Oh, and the apps...

I know Jobs told Mossberg it will, but then on the iPad page at Apple (http://www.apple.com/ipad/app-store/), it just says: "You can import iWork ’09 and Microsoft Office documents and send documents in iWork ’09 and PDF formats." Doesn't say anything about saving/sending documents in Word format. :(

I would imagine it would support it because it should be fairly trivial to move that code directly over from desktop version of iWork. The interface is all-new, but the code to deal with files/conversions shouldn't really need any major modifications.

Me too!! I find that I could use it now and tomorrow and tomorrow. All day every day, seriously! I do with my iphone 3gs!! PvZ is so fun!! COD zombies!!!

You can save iwork document under *.doc file type which Microsoft word can accept.

MBA < iPad IMO. The iPad is much lighter and smaller than the Air, just a waste it does not come with a USB port.

My sister's reviewing for GMAT. the iPad would be a big help.

I can imagine law and medical students will love the iPad.

Obviously you don't know what you are talking about. There is no way in the world you could want one because, as we are told daily by the angry negativrazzi, the iPad doesn't have Flash, doesn't have a camera, doesn't have a media slot, doesn't have OS X, and is well, just a big junky, overpriced iPod Touch that Apple is making way too much money on and totally screwing up the chances of world peace. As such its 99.9% impossible that anyone would find an iPad useful, desireable, or affordable. [/sarc] :D

That is why I hackintoshed a Mini 10v. =) I was sick of what the iPad
"can't" do.. I wanted something more than an over-glorified app store
and book store.
Now I have a reader, a full OS, a Webcam, Large hard drive, multitasking,
and the ability to run full programs.
Ipad is good... for light web browsing, and emailing, and watching some
videos (excluding flash), but that is pretty much it. Well the App and book
store. /spit.
If Apple was really smart, they would have made a full Apple Netpad or
Netbook... Macbook Mini? Or like a mini Air. Or just a tablet with OSX
and a webcam, I mean come on. Cut a deal and get a core2duo on it
and just have 10.6.2.. jeeze!

The iPad is hype.
Oh wow, I can pinch and squeeze my pictures and they are in stacks. Neat.
