Thank you for those who gave me suggestions about trying to get on the same page with my significant other about buying a mac.

(For those new, the basic story is that she doesn't want me to buy one and would rather me by myself a new pc. I am trying to get her on board with the whole MAC idea)

I showed her the thread from before and she countered a few hours later with this link

http://www.osnews.com/story.php?news_id=14577

What should I do as a rebuttal to this?

Good grief, leave the girl alone. She clearly doesnt want to switch and you're pushing the issue too hard.

he doesn't want HER to switch.. he wants to buy one for himself and she doesn't agree with the buy.

As I understand it, SHE doesn't want HIM to buy a Mac for HIMSELF. But he should be able to get any type of computer he wants! I don't see a ring on that finger!! MM MMM! No you didn!

Bah, that "article" was basically one long-winded hissy fit. I didn't read all of it, but it was nothing we all haven't heard before. "Blah blah, Apple's are expensive, Apple is an evil company, Apple fanboys take it in the butt from S.J., etc. etc. ect."

Dude, my advice to you is this. Tell her she got the computer she wanted and it's only fair that you get yours. You KNOW you won't be happy if you switch, so tell her to quit trying to make you. It's not like you're blowing a ton of money on something you don't need, it's not like you're asking her to do something weird or crazy. You're simply asking her to respect your opinion. If she can't ease up, well... then you deserve better.

And I am 100% serious when I say that.

Leave the girl alone? Are you even reading the threads? She's the one who is pressuring him to buy a PC.

The guy's tryin' to do the right thing by getting her blessing before making a large purchase, that's what this comes down to. It has nothing to do with making her switch to anything she doesn't want to switch to.

I think you're being a little too defensive in regards to women's rights here when that's not even the issue.

.....Now in regards to your rebuttal, a quick google search turned up this. I honestly didn't read it, but I think it could be a nice response. ;)

Good article. :p

I'd tell her that if that article is the best she can come up with against the mac she has a very weak argument. Maybe you could pick her favourite make-up and then say you hate some models who advertise it, therefore she shouldn't get to buy it ;)

Also, how about this: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2006497,00.asp

And tell her how intel macs run Windows if needed - how is running OS X on a PC (stable and legally) going?

Hahahahahahahahahahaha!

Wow. That last bit was hilarious.

That aside, buy yourself a Mac, buddy. You know you want to...

You've gotta be kidding, right? My girlfriend uses a PC, I couldn't care less. I don't get why your girlfriend cares so much about this, or how it could even possibly be an issue. PC vs. Mac arguments aside buy a Mac if that's what you want and forget about the whole thing. Problem solved?

It is rather silly to let one article on the internet to influence your opinion on anything. Blogs and reviews can be found for just about every product in existence praising or in this case condemning it. What are the credentials of the person who wrote that article? Are they a professional journalist? Do they have other anti-Apple opinion pieces posted. Also, I believe that one was posted on Apple Bytes a few months ago and there is a thread around here somewhere discussing it. There are plenty of places to read good things about Apple products from reliable and professional sources which aren't only pro-mac publications. A few suggestions would be PC magazine, Wired, or The Wallstreet Journal.

A good example to bring up to her is to pick a product that she likes, say Asics tennis shoes. I can almost guarantee you that if I dig hard enough, I can find an article that says that Asics are the spawn of satan and nobody should ever buy them again. Does that make it the truth? The internet is an open forum of information but sometimes you have to just consider the source.

One thing great about owning an Apple is that there is a fantastic network of support forums (this board included) to get unbiased support and information from. I have witnessed unbiased and very helpful people give advice and information on this board since I have been a member and if you choose Apple you will always have a place to find help on any Software or Hardware related issues. Dell and other brands have user groups and forums too but personally I don't find them as helpful or as unbiased as many of the Mac ones. Even when there isn't an equivalent solution to what is implemented on Windows, I have found that there is a solution that works just as well and many selfless people out there willing to explain how to get it to "just work".

My boyfriend didn't agree with me buying my mac, but it was my money and my computer. He doesn't have to use it, so the point is moot. Really, I understand wanting support from your girlfriend, but you just have to do what's best for you, or you'll just resent it.

Tell her to bugger off and spend your money the way you want to spend it. Did she consult you before buying her PC? No, so why should you ask her?

Don't take none of that crap, tell her "Hey! Missy you get back in the kitchen, make me some pie."

Does she know that Apple got rid of the (wired) one button mouse a while ago? I only skimmed through the article, but I noticed a lot of bitching about that.

Just buy the computer. I know you want her "blessing", but she seems very unreasonable about this. She wants you to buy a computer, but it has to be what she wants?

omg when I read things like this it makes me rather enjoy being single.

Do you make your own money? Are you planning to purchase said computer with your own money?

If you answered both those questions yes, then buy whatever the hell you want and if your GF has such a problem with it then perhaps you shouldn't be together.

Maybe I'm over simplifying but we're talking about a damn computer here, this isn't a car or a house. Your purchase decisions shouldn't be this hard.

Yeah, not seeing what the problem is. Buy a nice Mac for yourself. Buy her a nice dinner. Run WinXP on your Mac if you have to.

Win-Win-Win(XP).

You've got to be kidding. Is this a joke? There is no mention of OS X. This is old news. Get over it and get a Mac.

And yes, ditch her. She's obviously not that intelligent. :) That article talks about things that happened 6 years ago! Macs are far better now.

That was the most boring article I've ever read:rolleyes:

Agreed. This is the most boring antiApple article I've ever read. I don't think he mentioned, iTunes, iPod, OSX, Intelswitch, or anything. And he was putting down the original iMacs? And he doesn't realize there are no viruses?

Give the GF the boot if she doesn't like Macs. Contrary to the writer of the above posted article, there is nothing "immoral" about owning a Mac. That has to be the lamest argument yet against Apple. He calls is a totalitarian company. Huh? And M$ is just the opitome of sweetness and light?

There's nothing to rebutt. That article made points from around six years ago, and in any case was nothing but a long rant without any valid points from a disgruntled user. It goes on and on about how mac equipment was more expensive, but these days you can use most things with both Windows PCs and Mac OS X.
