The biggest thing for me was the case. A super sleek carrying case ensures that I won't lose them (the Earpods have never fallen out of my ears). My only pause was the 5 hour battery life which meant I'd never buy them. I'm away from the house for more than 5 hours at a time and wasn't going to carry around a charger.

It occurred to me that I would just use one Airpod in public walking around.

Further, for discreet use, I think the Airpod may be tucked under the watch band.

Securely.

Magnets already exist on my Milanese band. The Airpod tip is metal to attach.

I'll try this out as a possibility.

For ease & convenience, and hopefully, security.

I had a chance to actually look through the Airpods reviews online and the CNET reviewer says no, but some others say yes. I originally thought you needed both in, but have since come to understand you can use just one. Now, I'm just confused.

The CNET review quote:
Can you just use one by yourself?
Yes, to take phone calls. Either bud will work the same, and it'll switch seamlessly if you change earbuds. It's pretty clever. But you can't play music this way: Both buds need to be in.

A contradicting quote from Wired:
If you only have one bud in to start, it automatically shifts to mono sound.

Some clarity from Apple would be greatly appreciated...

I'm pretty sure you can use either airpod for listening/calls since both have a microphone, also been listening to quite a few podcasts (the verge, control walt delete) and they all seem to be consistent you can use just 1 airpod.

I'm really thorn, i love how there's no cable whatsoever and how simply the connect...it's just the fact that they look a little weird. I think I would be a little embarrassed to wear them..

..but at the same time they're so practical...I'm really thorn

Practical? The only gesture supported is activating SIRI. I don't know which reviews you have been seeing, but here is how your usage for music listening is going to be:
(Imagine standing in a queue)
tap tap: SIRI, play next track.
tap tap: SIRI, play next track.
tap tap: SIRI, PLAY NEXT TRACK.
tap tap: SIRI, play previous track.
tap tap: SIRI, turn volume up.
tap tap: SIRI, turn volume up.
tap tap: SIRI, turn volume up.
tap tap: SIRI, turn volume down.

Apparently you can change the setting from Siri to play/pause. Isn't great but it's something

I've always use foam covers on my wired earpods which keeps them in and improves the sound. I also have a second set with EarHoox for running.
It looks like those won't be practical with Airpods because of the charging case. I'm hoping maybe a third party charger will come out that allows the use of these covers.

Also what I'm hoping is possible is when setting the double tap to play/pause that we can use "hey Siri" to interact with Siri. As far as volume and skipping tracks is concerned, there's no way I'm using Siri for that. I'll just use the phone. Maybe they'll figure something better out with an update

Not sure if you use an Apple Watch or not, but my plan is to use the watch to control the music.

Thinks what he meant is easily and quickly putting on or taking off (and you can do that whole day, multiple times, without a hassle). Not hot while in ears like ones that plugs into your ears. Can use either one or both. 24 hours usage. Can listening to music, receive phone call, check schedule, check weather, send messages, etc.
For people who have Apple Watch what you said almost doesn't matter.

(I will add that, IMO telling SIRI to "Play next track" or "Play previous track again" isn't that big of a deal. Volume adjustment however, will be a drag for ones who doesn't have Apple Watch.)

I'm okay with using Siri, my phone or my watch to skip track.

I'm surprised they didn't make a black to match the phone...

I've been eyeing wireless headphones but the fact that these are completely wireless (no wire between the two) is awesome.

I'm worried about the sound quality though.

No, I'm either going to get Jaybird X2 or the new BeatsX as they are both around <£130.
I have the jaybirds x2 and the wires that wrap around your neck can be annoying. That's one of the reasons why the no wires on the airpods are appealing because there aren't any wires that "tug" on them.

I've got some cheapo wireless that have the connecting wire and it doesn't bother me, even if I bought the AirPods I would connected them together with a cable.

All those thing are more pratical with the EarPods. And yes telling siri is a big deal, unless you want to be the moron who starts talking in the middle of a group of people, making half of them think you're talking to them.

No. EarPods is less practical. Want to listen on iPhone? You have to jack in. Want to change to iPad? You have to jack out of iPhone and jack in on iPad, trying to avoid the wire along the way. Ditto on MacBook. Want to change to Apple Watch? You simply can't.
Want to have a glass of water while listening on iPad? Imagine carrying iPad (and hold the wire all the way) to the fridge. Or you have to pause what you do, takes out earphones, go to the fridge, come back and put earphones in. Both are just as awful.
I'm doing these all day long and I'm so tired of it. Thank God I only have to wait til late October.

It depends on how the sound quality and the noise cancellation is.
I'm really not impressed with both regarding the EarPods and I fear that it's the same with AirPods.

So, if I only get wireless for $159 and everything else is just the same as with EarPods that come for free with every iPhone, I will not buy them.

It's not about the sound.

Airpods are all about having a computer in your ears.

Controlling sounds & devices.

I've considered getting the Jaybird Freedom's due to their size & design, but still dislike the hanging cord between them.

I've been running 2 Rowkin Mini wireless BT4 earbuds and while the sound isn't that great, it's still decent for what I want them to do. Plus they're wireless and hide completely in the ear. I've heard mix reviews about them with phone calls, but I haven't used mine for that (only got them for audio usage with nothing hanging out).

I'm sure I'm not alone, but I'm not a huge fan of the design. I really like the look of the samsung gear iconx, but the 3.5 hour battery life is kinda deal breaker for paying $200. Does anyone know of any solid other alternatives beside airpods and the samsung?

AirPods are dead on arrival.

1. Some reviews claim they sound the same as the included headphones with your iPhone, which are mediocre/bad. None say they sound great.

2. No attention to noise cancellation.

3. No ability to adjust volume or skip tracks without using Siri. When I'm on the elliptical I don't want to use Siri, or my Apple Watch, or my iPhone, for such simple tasks. I want to be able to do them as easily as possible, which is the inline controls on the headphones themselves.

4. Poor battery life. My Bluebuds X's offer 8 hours, Powerbeats 3 claim 12 hours. No I don't want to rely on having to recharge my headphones on the go to get more battery life. I want them to last long throughout the day.

5. Pairing with my iPhone is already dead simple. Turn on my X's, wait literally one second, hear a voice say 'headphones connected', and I'm ready to use them.

6. This is just my personal opinion, but they look silly. White was a bad choice. Would have looked much better/less obvious in grey or black.

Earbuds are 30 Euro here, and that's expensive for the amount of times I have to replace them.
The new ones are 180 Euro (yeah, not 160$, but 200$) and they are not water resistant, independently replaceable, and you can only listen to music for 5 hours, and then you have to carry around the charger thing for it to juice it back up.

I already feel grumpy replacing a 80 Euro keyboard when they stop working once a year or so on heavy usage. Adding another cost to the yearly Apple guaranteed purchases list is a nono for me.

Buy an iPhone, include them, .. or upgrade option for 50 euro.

But 200$ for me to get them? NAH ..

Comparing the airpods to powerbeats and blue buds is not really a good comparison because both of those have wires running through them.

It would be a better comparison between the bragi dash or iconx. Which I think for the most part the airpods come on top.
