My iPhone is finally up online with 3.0GM

I followed this guide
http://www.ihackintosh.com/2009/06/how-to-unlock-iphone-2g-with-os-30-gm-gold/

I used iTune 8.1.1 and I found that the custom 2.2 and 2.2.1 both doesn't restore to my iPhone.

1. I follow the guide to downgrade to firmware 2.0.2
2. Then I use the supplied quickpwn to unlock my phone (I didn't install cydia and installer as I know 3.0 will get rid of it)
3. My phone is up and running like before with my T-mobile prepaid sim card
4. Then I use my other machine with iTune 8.2 to UPGRADE to 3.0GM
I mean UPGRADE!, do not RESTORE

wow my iTunes also says Ryan's iPhone.

is there anyway to downgrade back to 2.2.1 from 3.0 Gm to unlock it or is the baseband already screwed up? I have a 2G

baseband has not be updated, I was able to downgrade back to 2.2.1 using my iTune 8.2. Only that the custom firmwares 2.2 and 2.2.1 will not load. You can try quickpwning it, I haven't tried that as I felt I wasted enough time and I should following someone else's proven steps so that I don't loose more time.

Thanks for the tip!

Here's what worked for me.

Have an iPhone 2G 8GB that I bought just a week after the initial release. I had it on AT&T for a while but then changed to T-Mobile due to their lower prices. I jailbroke/unlocked my iPhone using PwnageTool and QuickPwn (not sure which one did the job, i think pwnagetool worked for me) on 2.2.1. I hit "alt-check for updates" and selected the downloaded IPSW from my desktop. Only took about 5 minutes to update and restore. Now I'm using 3.0 on an Unlocked iPhone with T-Mobile! Apple makes it a lil bit too easy eh? hah. I did use iTunes 8.2. I lost the jailbreak but I'm confident it will be released next week along with the official release of 3.0, so i can wait until then. The only feature i see is disabled is YouTube but a workaround will probably appear too in the weeks ahead. Make sure you dont RESTORE or you may get locked out. I am pretty sure this method only works for 2G iPhones so I wouldnt attempt this on jailbroken/unlocked 3G models. GOOD LUCK HACKERS!!

EDIT: yes it restored from backup and i still have all my SMS, music, photos, etc.

I cant seem to sync any files ...no music, no photos etc ......

Interesting, did your iTune detect your iPhone being plugged in?

Other than youtube which I don't use. I use yahoo pipes for specific searches and convert the link to the mobile version, then I just use the free RSS reader to play the youtube. The original youtube app is only good for looking at the worldwide front page videos. The last time I check, I have very hard time of finding my own subscriptions.

So far I love 3.0. The variable speed for music scrolling is awesome!!!

can anyone please tell me where to get the gold master? (private messages welcome). I've pounded all the torrent and usenet places I can think of. Found one for 3G phones only...

I'd appreciate a link or hint!!! Got nothing to do tonight and want it now!

Hi folks, if im reading this thread correct can i assume that to update my Unlocked 2g iphone which is currently running V2.2.1 to V 3.0,

do i simply download itunes 8.2...

then click on alt/update>browse for v3.0...

Then update (from my original 2.21 state to 3.0)

Will my unlock survive?

i think i read somewhere that i would need to downgrade to vers 2.0.2 (in itunes 8.0 or 8.1) then qikpwn then use itunes 8.2 to update to 3.0....

This all sounz a bit of a headache and im sorry if it reads as confused as im feeling, but would realy appreciate any help here guys...Is it possible to just update from 2.2.1 directly to 3.0 without all the qikpwn/downgrading? Any info appreciated:confused:

Notifications also don't work with unlocked 3.0. It keeps saying to connect to iTunes to enable them. I am guessing we will have to wait for a jailbreak to enable these features.

I too need a definitive answer...

Tomorrow when it pops up on itunes that there is an update, Do I just update as if I had a regular locked iPhone? (I have an unlocked 2G) Obviously I need to keep my unlock. I don't care about losing the jailbreak stuff.

Thanks

Mine worked fine too:

1. Make sure you're using the previous itunes version, NOT 8.2.

2. Make sure your phone was unlocked/jailbroken/activated with pwnage (not quickpwn)

3. Upgrade itunes to latest version - to 8.2.

3. Either download 3.0, hold down option key while you hit UPGRADE button in itunes (NOT restore) and then select the firmware, OR just wait until it's available today and hit UPGRADE. Sit back and wait for it to finish updating.

4. Enjoy your unlocked and activated iphone 2G. Remember though that it won't be jailbroken (you can't install non app store apps through cydia/installer)

ONE issue I've had, but that I suspect will be fixed: youtube doesn't want to connect.

Can someone please run through the steps to upgrade to 3.0 a JB 3g phone, I have updated Itunes and want the software update but just want to check the process.

I will then look to JB and unlock when the new software is released on Friday.

Thanks

Yup, make sure your previous unlock or jailbreak was not done on QuickPwn. I've got my 2G running 3.0 GM now using 'Update' on iTunes... it is great! :)

It is great - not revolutionary, but feels more solid than ever and has all the little things that felt like they were missing before, especially cut and paste and global search. I've had mine for almost two years now and it just keeps getting better...not many electronics you can say that about!

Cheers :) Thing is tho i bought my 2g already unlocked so dont know if pwnage or qickpwn was used....Is there any way to check this on the iphone?

I dont know what to expect if i just take the chance and upgrade anyway. I know i will lose the unlock but figure i will be able to re-unlock...but will i not be able to activate again

i have a 1st gen iphone it is unlocked and jailbroken i use it on tmobile i am kinda new at this i used pwange to unlock and jailbreak but to get the new software update do i just hook it to my computer and hit upgrade and let it upgrade or will that break the unlock i dont care about the jailbreak stuff so much i just dont want to loose the unlock.

Shouldn't it not matter at all what we do with a 2g since this update doesn't touch the baseband? If it doesn't touch the baseband there is no way to lose the unlock right?

I did this following the steps someone posted (make sure was unlocked using pwnage, upgrade not restore ect) and it is stuck on emergency calls only. It is unlocked because i have the orange carrier name and full signal. Urgh this is stressing me out. What do i do? Every other update i have done since 1.1.4 unlocked has been fine.

I am on a 2g btw.

Thanks

As tempting as it seems...I think its best for all of us 2G/unlocked/jb iphone users to wait. I have already read too many horror stories and OS 3.0 was just released!

Ok so now i've got back to 2.2.1 but when i try and update to 3.0 i says The iPhone cannot update at this time because the activation service is temporally unavalible.

:(

I guess that´s just because the server is busy right now... the update broke my unlock too luckily I was relatively easy able to go back to 2.2.1 and the updating to 3.0 worked really nice ! I´m syncing right now :)
