My 24" 2.4 has been very reliable and solid. upgraded to 2gb with a stick of ram from a pc shop. maybe kingston? When I initially got the iMac I tried doing the migration assistant from a G5 powermac and ran into serious issues. After migrating I had several crashes. I did a clean install and have had maybe one freeze since then. I got it like 2 weeks after it started shipping. I've tried some of the specific things that people have reported as crash triggers and mine doesn't crash.

My 2.4GHZ, upgraded to 3GB (Kingston RAM)

No issues whatsoever. *knock-on-wood*

mine is not freezing, but this is also my THIRD ONE!!!!! (original purchase and two exchanges)

2.8 Ghz 24" iMac, 4 Gb Ram ... froze on a regular basis until I installed smcFanControl & cranked up the fans: problem solved.

24".2.4ghz,4gb with absolutley no freezes, bought 27th august and recently upgraded to leopard with no problems or permssion issues... my mbp on the other hand les then 2 weeks old, swapped once and suffered from the ACL permission issues currently.

Cheers

Andy

2.8 and have never frozen once. Worked perfect under tiger, and works perfect under leopard with all the updates.

Have 2 gigs of ram that Apple put in.

I am completely satisfied with every aspect of my iMac. Best computer I have ever owned in every way. When I have to switch over to windows to play certain games this is the best I have seen Vista run on any computer.

What happens when yours freezes? My girlfriend just bought a 24 inch imac and it will freeze up, but the mouse still moves around. You just can't do anything. Is that what you are seeing?

This is one of the most typical freezes reported with the new iMacs. The mouse continues to move but you cannot select anything nor does the machine respond to any keystrokes. The only thing possible to do is to hold down the power button and do a hard restart.

Sounds like your girlfriend unfortunately has a freezer. Has she applied the iMac software updates?

Thanks. We made an appointment with the local Apple store. All updates applied.

I have a 24", 2.8Ghz, 500HD, wireless MM/KB and no freezing or other issues. It is all good! I purchased mine from MacMall.

24" 2.8 alu imac with no freezes. Well, except after applying the imac software update, then it froze. But that is easily fixed by booting to the install CD and using the CD's disk utility to verify/repair permissions. Then, after a reboot, runs perfectly again.

BTW, Bambeezer, you'd be wise to do that with your gf's imac since you said you had "all the software updates" and it was now freezing. Insert the disc 1 of the 2 install/restore cd's that came with her imac and shut it down. Then reboot holding down the c key until the blue screen comes up. Click on utilities in the menu bar and then disk utility (I believe).
