I'm honestly sick of the iPhone wasting space on bezels...
The Nexus 4 isn't that much bigger than the i5 and yet it has a bigger screen.
I dont want my phone to be much bigger than the iPhone, I don't want a tablet in my pocket...but I would rather get a screen than a bezel with my phone

Sad that Samsung has to sell a separate waterproof version of the S4.
Why not make that the default? I'd definitely get a Samsung as my next phone if the flagship was waterproof (a bit paranoid, my first real phone got ruined in a pool :( )

I'm with you there. They should have done what Sony did in that regard. Plus, the water resistant one is rumored to have worse internals.

You dont need maths to see if it fits in a bloody pocket!!!! Just put the damn thing in and see if it fits. My note 2 fits in my pockets fine, it spends all day in my pocket so I cant see anyone having trouble fitting a s4 in their pocket, again, wtf was thrat equation all about?????

The GS4 sticks out of my pocket, sadly. Altho I don't own one. Not a deal breaker though. Note 2 on the other hand, I wouldn't consider.

You really have to love the dramatic "I'm not going to waste time with you lowlife people" post yet still stick around to post some more.

An iPad Mini is an iPad Mini. A Note 2 is a Mini iPad.

samsung knew the original s4 isn't for everyone, so they are coming up with lots of s4's variants like the s4 mini, rugged s4(water proof and dust proof) , s4 zoom (16MP camera), smart trick samsung.

One of the reasons I got rid of my Samsung S3 was the size. The spec on the S3 mini just wasn't up to scratch for my needs but the size was much more adequate IMO. I can see the S4 mini doing rather well as I personally think the race to make phones as big as possible has got out of hand.

Lots of people tell me they can fit their S3/S4's in their pocket and I don't doubt that as I have experience in that department lol. Fitting it in is one thing but walking around without it look like you have a dictionary stuffed in your pocket is another matter. If you wear baggy jeans or spend most of your time with the phone stuffed in an inside pocket of a suit, its not a problem but skinny jeans and chino's are the common fashion now and large phones are a problem. I know some of the older members here will attack the fashion rather than the device which is fine, but my age group may be put off devices like the Galaxy Note for instance. Phones are like fashion as they change often and trends tend to change, for example it wasn't too long ago phones were trying to be as small as possible and now its going back in the direction we had in the early 90's.

This article you linked even quotes

and then says

The pocket size they're increasing is the tiny "coin pocket". If you're going to insinuate I'm an idiot just for challenging what you're putting across as "fact". I work with Engineering Level Maths in my line of job. Here is how easily the S4 fits into my jeans pocket. The curved white line being where my pocket ends on the outside.

lol at average pants pocket being 13in. That's straight BS. A pocket that size would go down to most ppl's knees. I can see that your phone is about an inch or less from hanging out of the pocket. I wear baggy jeans myself and always had problems with my old android phones bothering me while at the club or bars. It even distracts you more when you're sitting. Standing with a big phone in your pocket isn't much of a problem but walking and sitting it is.

I usually put my cell in my back ass pocket when I go out and to the people that wear tight jeans where do you keep your keys and wallet? Do you carry a satchel around with you?

I wouldn't put my phone in a back pocket as I'd likely sit on it when I forgot. I only take essential keys with me and on nights out I usually only carry notes and cards rather than a chunky wallet. The pockets are smaller on skinny jeans so the less bulk the better. Some people also just prefer a smaller phone, I know I do. I have nothing against people who prefer a massive smart phone and don't see a problem with it sticking out of their pockets. Each to their own at the end of the day.

I dont think people are bashing the iphone because its a smaller screen they are bashing it because the screen is to small.

the gs4 mini is 4.3 in and samsung is just hitting every size market with there phones.

they have 4.3,4.7,4.8,5.0 and 5.5 while apple is just at 3.5 and 4.0

Samsung can churn out as many differently sized pieces of plastic as they like. I'll stick to my nice iphone that feels its worth and has apps that work usin the screen real estate without lots of wasted space thank you.

Given these specs the allusive 'flagship android' in a 4-4.5" size is still just a fevered dream......

a trick by samsung, to attract users who like small phones( especially the iphone users), they should demo it at their event, the "premiere 2013". but, i'd say that the "rugged s4" looks the best variant of the s4.

The S4 Mini sucks from the start due to its low resolution. It has lower resolution than my iPhone 4 at a significantly larger screen size.

While the fullsize S4 makes great use of its physical space (it's almost all screen) I find it is just too large for me to use comfortably. While it fits in my pocket fine, I really don't like carrying a big device like that in it (there's only one big thing I need in my pants... ;)).

It's really annoying that pretty much nobody but Apple makes smaller phones with good specs these days. The upcoming HTC M4 is what I'm hoping will be THE phone to get if you want a smaller Android phone.

This is ironic. People bash Apple for not offering a larger iPhone, citing that Samsung (among others) make larger phones. But Samsung apparently saw the market for smaller phones. Unless the world got fatter (or just the US) and have bigger pants pockets, 5" smartphones are going to be too big to fit into your pockets. Now if we had purses/man purses...
So then if they follow Samsung and other lead......they should release a larger iphone along with the smaller one they now have....

So you think it is wrong for a company to offer different choices of sized phones for consumers? You think choice is bad?

I'm hoping Apple does something with the bezel as well, but there really isn't that much room on the ip5, they just need to widen it a hair, and eliminate most of the side bezels and a chunk up top/bottom.

I really like a small phone, especially if they can squeeze in a larger screen. Had the Note 2 for a while, I went back and forth if it was too large or not, but in the end it was indeed too large for me. Some of you guys who live life in baggy shorts may be ok with it, but having to wear either scrubs or dress pants every day it was just getting on my nerves, and it's even worse with well fitting jeans, I could barely sit down much less get it out of my pocket while driving or sitting.

That's too bad, they need a flagship mini S4. I think there are still a lot of people who want a smaller phone, I don't know how much a watered down mini S4 will compete with the ip5.

I thought EVERY Dick and Harriet want a bigger phone!

Galaxy S4 Mini.

Lets see, it will come with crap specs again, making the whole point useless for someone who would want a smaller phone with similar performance as the giant.

Are these OEMs this dense or are they unable to put together all those screaming chips in a smaller frame? How can apple and Motorola do that?

So you want a company to put the same tech into a smaller device while they make it cheaper too? Good way to lose money.

Choices are great. But the claim I hear on these forums quite often is "iPhone too small, Apple please make it bigger". And here is Samsung, widely known for "large" smartphones making theirs smaller. Samsung is almost directly responsible for making "large" smartphones popular.

So then if they follow Samsung and other lead......they should release a larger iphone along with the smaller one they now have....

Which is what they have done? I don't really get your post.

You really have to love the dramatic "I'm not going to waste time with you lowlife people" post yet still stick around to post some more.

Um, that was a reply to ONE person. Yet I notice that quote is of no one except yourself. Simply put, it fits in his pocket but it definitely does not in mine. Doesn't make either of us right or wrong universally, just respectively.

Sure you do. No company makes a product without doing some basic math. That bit of math was to show that 36% is a big difference. Would you rather make 100K/year or 136K/year? Rhetorical, so don't answer but 36% is not "almost no difference". There is quite a bit of difference. The very fact that he must try justifying 36% as "almost no difference" is very indicative.

Btw, I noticed that not a single post has addressed what I said about female clothing. Unless I have only seen anorexic women in my entire life, I don't think female clothing have as big pockets as us guys. Let's not forget that there are more girls than guys in the world. I honestly do think majority of Samsung (and others) smartphones are too big. It's no different than some people saying the iPhone was too small. Opinions.

No, you are wrong, they are not making it smaller at all, the model still remains, they are making varients that are smaller to add choice. You try to twist words rather unsuccessfully.

Again, twisting words.

The iPhone 5 is on top of the GS3 which is larger than the S4. You claim to wear tailored suits, change tailors.

Most women carry handbags or purses. Do you know that most people didnt address what you said because it was so ridiculous?

You wear your bias on your sleeve, or should that be tailored sleeve?

My wife has a multitude of handbags. Her huge Xperia Z is fine in one of those.

You have your tailored suit. I have my jeans with large pockets. My wife has her handbags.
