Between those 2, I would get the 11” Pro. It doesn’t feel like a compromise to me at all. The screen is amazing and can be used outside. The form factor feels perfect and since you already work on a Mac mini with a larger screen, I think you’ll appreciate the smaller size to tote along for web and streaming. It’s just a stellar machine imo.
After reading all the comments here, I expected the choice would be a tough one. But once I had a chance to use and handle the two sizes in the store, it was easy to decide on the 11. The 13 certainly looks great - and I can see why many folks like it - but it is much more cumbersome to handle. It just doesn’t feel like a tablet to me. Love the 11.

Totally agree and here’s one example I noticed reciently. Taking out the 12.9 and using it on my lap while in the passenger seat of a car always felt so cumbersome. The 11 is much better in this regard!

After many years of trying to use it in many different ways, the only thing I find the 12.9/13in especially good for (in all variants, including m4) is as a digital whiteboard at A Desk for collaborating and teaching. and for that purpose, it’s going to still be a while before I can justify an upgrade from even the 2018. There just isn’t any thing else for which either the 11 inch (for consumption, in a Smart Folio) or a MacBook Air (for work) isn’t better. When I travel that’s the combination I bring (with the mba in either 13 m1 or 15 m2 depending on how much work i expect to do) And it works very well. The weight is not ideal but not unmanageable either.

In case you ever wondered what the Pro market looked like.
Exactly. Noone said they needed the 13” for more screen estate for their drawings/movie editing/sound production. The OP sounds like an employee from Apple marketing department. This forum is full of people with very deep pockets who love expensive toys. Not that that is necessarily a bad thing. I am absolutely sure most of them would have been well served by the iPad Air 5 13”. The whole debate 11” vs 13” is a nonsense, if you need more screen estate, you get the 13” regardless. But 7 pages discussion. Gimme a break. Glad I visit these fora less frequently.

Yeah, I thought It was already said that go to an apple store, try it out, and choose what you want. I never expected this post to blow up

The mere fact that there’s a post saying go for 13” if you’re on the fence… I feel bad for naive people who get convinced by OPs post.

If you're on the fence, I’d go 11” personally. 13“ is more of a risk and less usable in all situations (such as travelling, or passenger seat as mentioned above).

People just need to check them out themselves - others liking one or the other really shouldn't be factor.

Maybe I think 13 inch is certainly more useful with MK

i have Smart Folio but keep reaching for the MK even with it’s lighter weight

I’ve got an impulsive itch to get an iPad for my failing eyes! Dam you Apple marketing! Do I go for:
iPad Air 13” 256gb at £899 or
iPad Pro 2022 11” 256gb at £899. 13” pro is £1199 so non starter. 128gb will be not enough as I plan to use for years.

I am trading in my Mac mini M2 as it’s been a paperweight the last year so should get £300+ from Apple Store towards iPad Air. Apple Store doesn’t sell 2022 pro’s but I can buy elsewhere (but not get the trade in value etc).

Bigger screen of the air is a plus & i have a 13PM iPhone so that can give me the better camera capabilities.

iPad Pro 11” gives me the better screen pro motion etc but it’s smaller.

All my editing intensive stuff is done on my old Mac mini 2011 so iPad purely for internet device.
I will travelling to my nearest Apple Store in the UK this morning. I am torn between the 13” and 11” iPad Pro. If this helps, I will be 56 this year. I have no problems with the 11” for general use. I even have my iPad set to use “more space” which makes everything smaller. That said, my eyes are not typical for my age as I do not need glasses for anything apart from very small text in low light. However, if you do wear glasses, I would imagine the 11” would be perfect for your needs.

I have reservations about the 13” iPad, which is why I am travelling 50 miles to see it in person. At the moment, I am typing this in bed, with the 11” iPad held comfortably aloft in my left hand and typing with the right. I need to be able to do this with the 13” or it’s a bust. I have held the 12.9” iPads before but I always found them too heavy and cumbersome. I’m curious to see if the much thinner/lighter 13 iPad changes the equation.

It's easy to switch to the iPhone style kb and have it on the right for that purpose.

13 inch m4 lighter weight is noticeable

Something came up which scuppered my Apple Store trip. I just ordered online: 11” 1TB IPP with case and the Apple Pencil Pro. The 11” size has always served me well. I can foresee too many issues with the 13” in my usage scenario.

I like the idea of the 13. But the reality of the 11 just works better for me.

Update: I returned my 13” on the last day of the return period. For the first time since 2011, I don’t have an iPad (already traded in my 12.9” M1 iPad Pro and iPad Mini).

I wanted to love the new iPad Pros, but to be honest, I didn’t enough to be worth $2k. The 11” and 13” both have their tradeoffs, and I realized that the Apple Vision Pro fills a lot of what I want out of a couch, bed and airplane computer.

This was hard for me to accept, because I’ve always loved the iPad. But life is short and I don’t feel a strong need for another chunky device to charge and take up space on my desk, coffee table or nightstand. Maybe I’ll change my mind and get an 11” or another 13”. But for now I’m living iPad free, and my life feels simpler.

If I read the post right it’s not iPhone only but there’s also a Vision Pro in the mix.
Yes, exactly, Vision Pro has taken most of my iPad usage around watching movies/TV and computing in couch/bed/plane scenarios. The iPhone 15 Pro Max has taken a little bit around reading books and light surfing/ personal computing. The Mac mini is my work from home machine. I still love the iPad but it's harder to figure out its place in my lineup after the emerging capabilities of the Vision Pro.

Glad we have many options. The vision pro was so cumbersome and uncomfortable for me I returned it. It made me appreciate the iPad even more now.
