Hello everyone. I just sold my old iPad and I really need an iPad ASAP. I expect a shortage of stock due to the mini-LED display, so I'd like to order the new iPad Pro the moment the pre-order starts. Based on the experience with previous iPads, on what time will the pre-order start on April 30, 2021? Is it 12am PDT?

Thank you!

Correct and the OP is right there will be huge demand and very low supply. There are Major tips to secure a Pre-Order which will last 2 minutes before they sell out Nationally.

#1. LogIn with Your Apple ID
#2. Use your Apple Pay and Apple Card if you have one.
#3. Make a purchase today just buy a cellphone case anything just so everything is working you don’t want any surprises on the Pre-order day.
#4. Call and advise your Bank that you will be making a $1099+ Purchase on April 30 sometimes Fraud Protection kicks in and creates a mess
#5. Add another item to your cart in Pre-Order day, a charging cable or anything Apple gives priority to Carts with multiple items. (You can return the filler item later)
#6. You will NOT be able to buy a 12.9” iPad Pro XDR at the Apple store.
#7. Use your iPhone or iPad to make your purchase Apple servers give prioity to iOS devices.
#8. Do NOT go Back and Change your mind. Servers will be hit hard and you will lose everything You get 1 Shot to buy and checkout.
#9. Pay full Price I know there’s a Trade In Option that’s a 100% sure way you won’t check out in time sell your Trade in by yourself.
#10. Use the Apple Store App. Make sure your Text message number is up to Date they may text your to verify the purchased.

I don't think iPad Pro will "sell out" in a pre-order. The estimated ship time will slip for sure.

I'm wondering if will will get guidance of stock levels at launch. I don't want to get into the slipped-a-week or two slot.

Yeah, it won’t sell out.. but ship times will certainly dip. I kinda gotta feeling that’s why Apple was vague on when it will be available. Because they themselves know it will be difficult to keep up with demand.

But I won’t put too much time into buying the iPad from Apple, I’m going to try Best Buy and AT&T as well.

The benefits from Apple are education discount, Apple Card 0% APR installment and 3% Apple Card cash back...

Is it possible to start through the ordering interface "before" 5am and then wait for the "starting gun" at 5 to complete the purchase?

No
I’m thinking the demand for 12.9 will be significant but the 11” won’t be nearly as bad.

May least that’s what I hope

I'm normally an 11 guy, but I wanted that HDR high contrast screen, so I'm "stuck" with he 12.9. It actually irritates me that Apple is de-valuing the 11 like that. At least this year.
I’m debating the 11 vs 12.9for the case keyboard size and added screen when working/ traveling. Had a 12.9 that was great but needed a repair and the apple genius said better to buy a new one than to get it repaired. Now the question is can I get by on a 11.

Given I use it to type on the keyboard case and watch TV movies. The screen might be worth it. But I never had an issue with the screen before. Any thoughts on folks using the apple case keyboard (either one) for typing on 11 inch iPad Pro?

AirTags were that same time and expect that to be the same for iPad
I’m debating getting up early just in case. Have there been any examples of midnight Apple time ordering in the last few years?

I also am wondering what last half of May means, 28th or sooner ?
