I think that’s probably more of the preference to reduce the foot traffic for the pandemic. Especially in areas where you can’t predict if there is a lock down coming in three weeks.

I assume because the model you ordered 'sold out' before your order placed. Sorry! For reference the model I order just went out of stock (WiFi only Silver 256 12.9).
i've never had an experience of not being able to pick up in my area, so just making a guess here
Yeah as I ordered the pencil and magic keyboard, checked out and paid. Then went to the iPad and ordered that. All on the same session in the same browser. I'll contact Apple.
I managed to place an order (fingers crossed) for the 12.9” iPad in Silver with the new (5th gen) White Smart Keyboard on the UK Education store. Both due for delivery 27 May. Took a LOT of tries and a LOT of confusing messages. The bag kept ‘updating stock’ and removing the items immediately after I’d just added them (!!). It completed as a ‘Guest checkout’ for some reason, and used the wrong payment card, but I’m hoping I can solve those in due course.

It seems most if not all 11" are still available for Launch Week (21-27th versus the 21-28th window we had for 12.9) and most 12.9 are pushed as late as the last week of June. Crazy how short of supply the 12.9 is.

Try logging into your Apple account from another device or browser. I don't think you need to worry. That's just what it shows if you're not currently logged in.
doubt they will take payment until nearer the time but my order is listed in store app
Did you order the 1TB or 2TB model? They seem to be low on stock and getting mid-June delivery dates. While 128GB and 256GB are still late-May.

I spoke to Apple. The order is in and find and delivery date 27 May. Not sure what happened but as long as the order is in and it's being delivered to me that's all that matters.

I have a 2018 12.9 iPad Pro and the battery is dog **** now. I want to replace it with the new model but the magic keyboard thing along with the pricing being very similar to a Macbook Air/Pro is making me reconsider it. In reality, i dont need either. I have a mint 2015 macbook pro im using in a henge dock and the iPad i mentioned.

I got 21-27 May initially on the email confirmation but in the App it now says deliver 27th, so who has a definite 21st delivery in the App
Other than going live a few minutes after 7, pretty painless. I will say though that the cost on these things is getting out of hand. This is the first time I ever had some pause before placing my order, thinking "I want this, but not at this price." It'll probably be a good long while before I upgrade next.
I'm keeping an eye on the website, and when I first go into my account it says 21st, but then right below it says 21st-27th. Hoping for sooner rather than later but whatever. Glad I was able to re-order before they slipped to June and still get my $100 education discount.
I already ordered mine, but I just checked the store again and ALL options are available (size, color, storage). All 11” ship in May. All 12.9” ship in June
Got my 512GB Silver Wifi model, along with pencil and black smart folio, ordered! It seemed the 1TB model was not available whenever I tried to place it in my bag I received a notification that it was a no go. I'm sure I'll be happy with the 512GB model.
I am a bit concerned about the trade-in process. I stated when I placed the order I needed to mail in my current ipad within 14 days. However, the new one won't be here for at least 21 days. Does that 14 day countdown happen at the time of ordering, or at the time of receiving the new replacement model. I can go two or three weeks without an iPad, it'll just be a bit inconvenient.
