I liked it when i first saw it too. To me it looks just like the Note 3 except without the home button......

I thought the same thing initially as well. Save for the physical button on the Note 3, they look nearly identical from the front.

Nothing wrong with it, just nothing unique either.

Needs three things: "stock" android, on screen buttons, and change the menu button to recents.

In fact i hope android turns out to be exactly like windows as i can install "stock" windows on my HP/Dell/Toshiba/Lenovo/Asus/LG/Samsung/Acer etc laptop/desktop and take out the "feature packed bloatware" the OEMs install. Every android phone should be able to install "stock" android (or google android, whatever you call it) without going through hoops.

I was thinking about going small with my next phone, but I like carrying around only 1 device for daily use.

Once i got the Note 2, I gave the iPad to the wife, and moved all of my files to the cloud so I can leave the Macbook Pro home. It's really the first phone that I've been 111% satisfied with.

I wouldn't fully agree with the statement but I do believe most users should try it out or have both a smaller phone and a larger phone. There are advantages for larger screens just like for smaller phones. Most people where I live carry two phones. One phone for each sim or where I live (one sim for each mistress/girlfriend). Or perhaps one of the phones is a cheap candybar phone for texting and in case of any holdup and snatchers. The other is their more prized phone.

I did the whole thing of having 4-5 phones concurrently back in 2012. Two of them I sold. One got stolen. One I gave away. And the last one still standing is my Nexus One which has now become a reliable backup to the HTC One. One of the things why I still love the Nexus One even if it is a 4-year old model is I can fit more videos on it than the HTC One which I only put 720p vids on there. First Nexus has a 32 GB memory card and removable battery. And the phone has been dropped a couple times on tile and still strong. No marks. It has its glitches and quirks, but still alive unlike the local branded phone I bought here that died after one year. One single drop on these Philippine branded but made in China phones can kill a phone instantly. You get what you pay for.

Nexus One still the best ergonomics for one-handed use. But generally, the bigger and bulkier HTC One is better at most other things like texting, browsing, watching movies, and just having a far better SoC. Very complimentary to have to different-sized phones.

My next phone may end up phablet territory. Eyeing the G3 and Note 4 but I still have high interest for the successor to the Moto X. The Moto X of last year probably had the best ergonomics of 2013 including over the smaller iPhone 5s. Very nice curves and very well balanced specs and performance.

Got my Lumia 1520 today. Feels great and I don't think it is too big. Most of my apps are available on the windows phone store, but still think Ill get myself a moto x to accompany it.

Nice! What are some of your thoughts? You have the Note 3 too right? What are some of your thoughts and comparisons?

Well I got the smaller brothers for Nokia and Motorola, the Icon and Moto G.
Hopefully my tablet hopping stops, I cannot afford those and smartphones as well.

By the way, just incase someone needs even more proof of phablet battery life:

battery life.png

I remembered to leave my phone off the charger for a night to show that you can easily get 2 days (sometimes more) of battery life out of a Note 2 with moderate use.

The day I did this I was pushing a lot of Twitter and running the music app along with some Chrome web browsing and checking email and such . . . . you know, average user stuff. I didn't get the other running services at the bottom, but it was Chrome, Music App, Android System, Voice calls ( a Whooping 4%) and Facebook.

1 Day and 10 hours running on batter, with 15% left at about 6 p.m. at which point I barely use my phone at all.

I've had SLOW days where I don't even pull my phone out of it's holster, get home, and still have upwards of 77% left.

Size wise it's feels about the same - though it is a little bigger and a little heavier than the Note 3.

It's hard to compare OS's simply because they are so fundamentally different. Thankfully most of the apps I use are now on the windows store and for those that are not I have found decent alternatives.

Its a much nicer device to the HTC 8X that I had back at the beginning of last year.

So far that camera hasn't amazed me - but the weather is horrible so it's hard to judge the quality.

MRU what happened to your New Year's resolution :D

Liike ever new years resolution baby !@! :D #OutofDaWindow :p

The only reason I don't give the note 3 a try is because I need my phone to fit in my pocket when I'm at the gym!

Yeah my note 3 lasts me a full day no matter what..the most I've gone when I'e not used it much is over 2 days which is amazing.

gotta admit I've never owned a phablet, just played with them in the store.

I really don't think I could handle one as my daily driver. As a supplemental or alternative device sure.

I often wonder if i should have waited for the motox price drop instead of buying the GS4

My note 3 lasts as long as my ipad so good enough for me. I think the size is perfect.

Besides even if they make a bigger iPhone it's still limited by ios.

This is my feeling. As my work phone, I have an iPhone 5. For me, there's not a whole lot that inspires me. Maybe, iPhone 6 will come with iOS 8 and wow us? Probably not, but here's hoping.

Yep, sold it for €450 and got the Lumia 1520 brand new unlocked for €470 ... so basically it was a sideways trade. :D

Must say call quality is very good on it. After using it today quite a lot - call quality and reception are definitely noticeably better than my Note 3 was.

That being said I'm still thinking of buying a Moto X. Have friends over in USA touring at moment so seriously tempting me, but i'll likely hold out for the HTC One 2014 and then decide. I won't buy a samsung phone ever again until they get rid of Knox.

Your nuts, hehe I mean that in a good way. I go to the gym 5-6 days a week also and stream music from my phone (DI.FM ftw!!) to bluetooth headphones. I use my iphone 5s, I could NEVER see having the Note 3 in my pocket while working out. As it is the 5s gets in the way at times or threatens to fall out of my pocket and I have to take it out and place it somewhere safe for my set.

This is coming from a Note 3 owner and cheerleader. Although I will say when it's time to get on the elliptical I will tether my Note 3 and use that instead of the 5s.

Ahh, when will that foldable tablet/phone become a reality?

Foldable is too crude like wearable tech. Nano tech powered auto expanding/contracting devices please.

Yea, I can't prove it - but feel like samsung antennas are weaker than iphone / moto. It may just be the way android shows signal strength in the ui and it plays tricks on my mind I dunno

If I was in your shoes I would certainly be thinking about the one 2014, but there's something about that motox form factor. Baby coming at the end of the month :) I'll be with the gs4 for a good bit.

Nokia is another one of those oems with great radio's. Very important spec!

Samsung is google edition or nothing for me in the future, but that's nothing to do with the radio :p

LOL….well maybe you not wear that spandex outfit huh? :)
I wear loose comfortable shorts to the gym….hit the weights for an hour or more then cardio…elliptical or treadmill. Never have i had a problem with my Note 3 in my pocket. But to each his own….that why they have so many sizes. One is bound to be perfect for what you need it to be…...
