Hey guys looks like we finally will be seeing OnLive launched in the UK this autumn. I have heard of this service before and assuming it works as advertised it looks really promising. Particularly for Mac users. I for sure will give it a shot when its officially launched over here. Seems like Intel in on board too.

Any US users want to put up their thoughts on the quality of the service? Is it lag-free? Especially at peak times. How much bandwidth do you find you use playing games? Is it just like having a £2000 gaming pc at your feet?

EDIT: Its out now and im loving it. Forgot how much i missed PC gaming

I tried it yesterday .... As a UK user you can actually already sign up and play a whole bunch of demos and view others playing.

I was pretty impressed with the technology but video quality wasn't the greatest, runs at 720p which you can't change but all games had max graphically settings.

Not too keen on it. Even with BT Infinity (40mbps and low ping) it didn't run great.
I was half hoping it would be good since I used to only have an ancient iMac for games. Now I've got the top of the line iMac and yeah, heavily compressed 720p 30fps graphics doesn't really interest me.

But I guess if you had to play the latest games and have a 4+ year old computer it will work better than playing games natively. And if you weren't fussed about having full access to your games.

Oh hey, have they changed their TOS that said if you stopped subscribing then you'd lose everything in your account, even purchased games?

On Comcast with 23mb/s down and 5mb/s up I'm able to play them without any stuttering, video quality goes down some times but for the most part it's great. I haven't bought anything on it yet though, but I've played quite a few demos.

It costs too much and they don't provide fast enough internet in my area. I can't see services like this becoming the norm any time soon.

Well after logging in and watching a few people play i have found that it used over 700 megs for about 40 minutes use!! Not sure if it is so high when playing the game yourself as i haven't bothered trying the demos, but thats ridiculous!

Well it launches in 10 days now. There is also an iPad app and Android tablet version coming soon. Will give the UK version a go and see if it still chomps on as much bandwidth as the US version did. Cant find anything on the website about pricing

Rumours are that a PlayPack subscription will be priced at £6.99. I think its going to be about £9.99 but they are being tight lipped until tomorrow

Well im off work today (coincidence isn't it :p) so giving the UK version a go. You get your first game for £1 so im geting Deux EX HE. I previously had a US account so i could watch demos but it makes you re-register again. Will report back later once i have had a quick blast!

Turns out Playpass is £6.99 a month. Didn't expect that

I am trying to get an account but it doesn't seem to like i'm using the same e-mail address as my US account.

Yeah i had to use my other email address to get it working.

At 700 megs for 40 minutes it'll blow the cap pretty quickly

Im having fun using it but damn i nearly used up 5 gigs already! I get 50 a month so its something i am going to have to use it sparingly.

It seems a great idea in principal, but with ISP's going backwards and actually decreasing usage allowance / increasing caps etc... it seems doomed to fail.

I have no cap but I wouldn't bet on one not showing up in the future.

Cancel the US one and try again or just log in with the US one?

If i log in with the US one then im using US servers and the lag makes playing anything that needs speed a bit pointless.

I got signed up with an alternate account.

How are you finding it? Works flawlessly for me. Eats bandwidth like a mofo though. Apparently for BT customers it wont count towards their usage allowance until January next year i think it was. Lucky gits :)

I tried it briefly at work hopefully before they noticed and phoned me haha.

I will try at home later, I am a BT customer and on the top BB package so I have unlimited usage*, BT customers also get 3 months free so I registered to try that. The £1 game offers seems great so I will at least give that a go. How much of your allowance is this thing eating up?

It will be interesting to see how it works at peak times for me!

*fair usage policy applies

Sorry for late reply. I been hard on it! Used 14 GB today for bout 7 hours use! Not having any problems with any lag at all its been buttery smooth all the time. Usage is way too high though. Im getting between 1.5 and 2GB per hour.

I get 50GB a month from my ISP at the moment. The next package up is 100 GB for a tenner extra. Not sure if its going to suit me long term but I've had a blast today!

EDIT: Cant get back on it now. Says its too busy! Looks like its being hammered at the moment! The 'Any game for a £1 deal' is proving to be very popular it seems

I managed to try it last night and didnt get any lag but the graphics were very muddy and compressed, understandably really. Maybe it would look better on the ipad...

With that sort of bandwidth usage I would be worried even on my Unlimited plan, I game about 20-30 hours a week currently so the minimum i would be using is 40GB ish a week, thats 160GB a month. This isn't counting any downloading I do which is about 10GB a week.

I have no idea if BT consider 200GB a month good for unlimited or want to clamp down on it under fair usage policy. I guess all I can do is assume the best and give it ago and at worst I'll get a letter telling me to calm down!

Whats a usage cap ? (currently at 700gb downloaded god knows what uploaded this month)

Pay extra for truly unlimited/uncapped business broadband if you don't want to worry. :D

I've been using Onlive in the US , I'm with BT business in the UK and had no problems (registered online to my dads US address, and have a pre-payment credit card registered there too)
