Whats a usage cap ? (currently at 700gb downloaded god knows what uploaded this month)

Pay extra for truly unlimited/uncapped business broadband if you don't want to worry. :D

I've been using Onlive in the US , I'm with BT business in the UK and had no problems (registered online to my dads US address, and have a pre-payment credit card registered there too)

I have the top package you can get with BT, there have been weeks i downloaded hundreds of GB so I assume it is OK to do.

Can you use a gamepad with it or is it just mouse and keyboard?

I noticed they have there own box that comes with a gamepad, just some of the games such as driving ones are a bit difficult to play with mouse and KB.

Have you managed to sign up?

I can sign up fine, but when I try to play it won't let me as my ping is too high. I kind of wish it'd still let me play, but just display a warning saying something like "You're ping is too high for a smooth game experience, please don't view this as indicative of OnLive's performance" or something, so that players knew that it won't be how it should.

Ah i see. Well the UK launch seems to be a huge success. Hopefully they expand to you guys before too long!

Just spoke to Eclipse and they have upped me to 100 Gb a month anytime (from 50) and unlimited overnight (11pm-9am) for extra £4 a month. God i love retentions departments :D

Nice one thanks, i couldnt find anything in the options but didnt think of looking in FAQ haha!

Which game did you get for £1?

I got the three month BT customer subscription to the playpack for free! So as a subscriber I get another 30% off everything so the offer makes all games 70p!!

I am torn between Space Marine and DIRT3, if Space Marine had Multiplayer id get that but DIRT3 seemed really good from the trial and I havent played a racing game in a long time.

Can't help with that i'm afraid, not played any of them. Apparently theres an update to the client which im downloading now, not sure what its for though. General tweaking maybe.

Are data caps or charges an issue with this service? I heard that stuff like that was expensive in Europe...

Depends on your ISP, I pay £38 a month for top broadband package with unlimited bandwidth, TV Service and phone line.

Many other packages have download limits and all the cheaper services have limits, many people only pay £10 a month for the broadband but they have a cap of 20GB per month which I would blast through pretty easy.

Depends on the provider. I was previously paying £20 for 50GB a month. Usually worked out i was using about 20-30GB but with Onlive i can use that in a week! Once you start paying around £25/30 though it tends to be unlimited

Not necessarily. I'm with BE Unlimited ( now owned by O2 ) and I pay about £18 per month for unlimited 24MB down and 1.3MB up. That said I only get around 7MB down but it is unlimited.

I am thinking about switching to BT's 40MB unlimited fibre optic service when it's available in my area which they say is end of December. That is going to cost me about £26 just for the broadband. I already have phone with them but my TV is with Sky. According to BT I should get 32MB down and 7MB up unlimited with their fibre optic service.

I did think about going with Virgin's 50MB service ( their 100MB service isn't available in my area ) but it costs £35. BT's service also includes free Wi-Fi in BT Open Zone and BT Phone hot spots.

Heard Virgin like to traffic shape, not sure how much of that is true. (I dont have a problem with any ISP traffic shaping torrents/P2P though, knock them down to dial up speeds and leave the rest of the bandwidth for everyone else) Eclipse internets Fibre isn't available to me for another few months yet but when it comes i will jump on it. I get 11Mb download speed at moment so hopefully i should see a nice jump. Improved uploads wil be sweet too. Especially for backing up to Skydrive. Most exchanges in greater manchester area are already done but mine had to be on one of the last ones

I do like BE but i know they have a FUP on their unlimited packages. If its anything like O2 then the middle package is 100GB and the Pro is 250. Not sure about if theirs are the same.

I didn't know Eclipse was also offering fibre optic service. I'll have to look into that. Yes my exchange is also one of the last ones to be upgraded here in London.

hey guys is there anyway to trick the onlive app to allow me to start it, because at the moment it blocks users from germany based on the ip. What kind of proxy tool should i use so that i can start buying and playing games with onlive instead of seeing this ********:

For onlive you want a little latency as possible so that the response time for the streamed images is low enough that you don't perceive any lag. Using a proxy will put your ping through the roof (massively increased latency) and limit the bandwidth available so picture quality won't be as good.

Paid for proxies are always better than free ones and won't impact onlive as much, but I still wouldn't bother.

well i think that once connected i can switch the proxy of an use my full speed 30mbit connection. I only need the proxy to get around the ip location test

You are only getting the error because the service is that busy they are giving priority to people with a UK IP.

This happened to me a few times using the US one when it was very busy. I did not buy anything on that though as I knew it was unsupported for me and the plug could be pulled at any time.

It kept telling me I couldnt log on last night because my connection was not stable enough, even though it was perfectly stable and with very low ping.

Just noticed your sig. How come you dont game on those machines natively. They have good graphics cards in them

I had a look at Eclipse and they don't seem worth it. Apart from the fact they seem to charge around £67/month for unlimited service and they require a 24 month contract. You can get a 12 month contract but then they charge you £100 for installation. I think BT is a better deal. They only require an 18 month contract, provide free installation and charge around £26-28 for unlimited service. Not to mention they provide free Wi-Fi hot spot access in their BT Open Zone and BT Fone locations.

No, that would disconnect you, so you're back to where you were before you started using the proxy (and when you re-connect w/o the proxy the location check would show Germany).

The standard fibre packages come with unlimited overnight usage and weekend. Its only during day that would eat into your allowance. Cant speak for fibre but on Adsl they are rated as one of the fastest and most reliable providers (with UK call centres and great technical support) and no matter what time i do a speed test i always get my same top speed of my line :)

But yes the BT package is a lot cheaper and overall is probably the best deal i have seen so far. If i had to sign up fresh now i would probably choose them, but as things are im happy to stay with Eclipse

Back to Onlive and i think its a great service but here are obviously setbacks. However if anything its because they are a few years ahead of the game. 4 years ago BB speeds were nowhere near what they are today (usage allowance too). In another year or two they will be able to stream higher res and give a faster more responsive service. I love the idea of renting games for 3 or 5 days as thats often more than enough time to complete a lot of games these days.
