Any idea if Tyler managed to get any of the Leopard compatible Xgrid code into the 2.x source? It'd be great to have that working for distributed processing once more if you could get it going, pretty low priority obviously!

Thanks for continuing work on a much-used app Steve! Much appreciated! You should put a paypal link on your page, you might be able to subsidise a "test machine".

I don't think that any of the xgrid stuff is in there now. I didn't really look for it, honestly. I'm focusing more on the re-write than anything else at the moment.

And xgrid is actually a really high priority. Post-re-write, it's one of the first features that I want to put in.

And thank you for the kind words! Maybe I'll consider putting a donate button up there someday, but for now, I want to just focus on writing the app... no need to complicate things by bringing money into the mix!

I guess I'll mention here a few updates. A new site is being designed, and a new look to go with it. This is actually what's taking up most of my time at the moment. While the FilmRedux interface is not bad looking, I wanted to use something a little closer to VisualHub in appearance. In addition, my personal life has gotten pretty busy recently. My birthday is on Sunday, and my other project (an operating system) has needed lots of attention. So while development has slowed down a tad, it hasn't stopped by any means.

How to install libfaac?

Can someone please give me a quick tutorial on how to install libfaac on Leopard.

Thanks,

Stephen

Ive update the libfaac installer to a Universal build supporting 10.4 & 10.5 as some people wanted this, same url but filename is supportfiles102u.zip

could someone tell me if there is going to be remote monitoring added to this program when its done..... id love to be able to view the processing and maybe pause and add and delete items from teh queue via my iphone.... and interface similiar to what transmission has would be great

This is actually something that was suggested to me by someone, and so it's slated for a possible feature add in version 1.1 (or whatever we call the next revision after the re-write).

You like Transmission's? I'll look into it.

I mean the interface would obviously be different but a web app for basic monitoring would be great

i have attached a picture of the transmission web interface for a quick reference

File Sizes?

Steve can you give me an idea why if i convert with visualhub the file size is bigger then when i use FilmRedux?

im just curious. Is the compression better with FR or are frames being dropped or anything?

Honestly, I'm not sure. Since I don't have VisualHub's source, I can't tell you exactly what the difference is, but it's possible that the default encoding options are slightly different. I know that over VisualHub's life cycle, Tyler was constantly refining the options that he'd pass to ffmpeg... so it's entirely possible that they're just slightly different now then they were when your VisualHub was compiled. That'd be my best guess.

Doh!!

I lied to you good folks! haha
Dont have this installed obviously! :/

www.easelnet.com/app/supportfiles.zip

But, FR starts but it just uses up about 5-8% CPU and no file apears in the destination folder after half hour! :(
Then i give up and go Back to VH.
But, i want this to work or im stuck conerting everything to MPEG2!
MP4 format doesn't work on my PS3 with FFmpeg, VLC or quicktime decoding. h.264 or just plain MP4! :( Jay

Hello,

Firstly, big thanks to those who have helped bring back this software. Awesome work!

I am having a problem with the same error message that 'iridearealbike'
reported;
The variable exportfile is not defined. (-2753)

I d/loaded the file from (www.easelnet.com/app/supportfiles102u.zip)
and installed it. The last page of the installer said;

"That's it... The support dylib and header files have been installed.
They are here:

/usr/local/lib/libfaac.0.0.0.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libfaac.0.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libfaac.a
/usr/local/lib/libfaac.dylib
/usr/local/lib/libfaac.la

/usr/local/include/faac.h
/usr/local/include/faaccfg.h

The binary is here;
/usr/local/bin/faac

I don't have a 'local' folder in my Users folder and I all i can find with a spolight search for those file names is:

faac.pkg
faaccfg.pkg
in MacintoshHD/library/receipts/

I tried installing them but the installer failed giving no reason and to be honest I'm not even sure of they have anything to do with the application.
I still get the same 'exportfile' error on FilmRedux (am trying to convert .mkvs for PS3 playback), can anyone help me?

thanks
lloyd

FilmRedux Applescript error

I upgraded to Snow Leopard. Visualhub gave me an Applescript error:

Can't get text item 1 of "". (-1728)

I downloaded FilmRedux and I'm getting the same error.

Anyone having the same issue and/or have a solution?

I've tried the beta v. of Growl 1.2 and that didn't help.

I just installed supportfiles102u.zip. That didn't help either.

That works! Thank you. I have to play with the settings because the conversion of a vid that usually only takes 30 ish minutes is taking 60+

How about using VideoMonkey?
It's basically FilmRedux and now it supports snow leopard too. :)

Wow VideoMonkey looks fantastic. When VisualHub died and Handbrake went crap I pretty much stopped converting my stuff because it all became too much of a hassle. VideoMonkey actually looks better than VisualHub.
