15.3.1 here, on my MacPro 4,1 -> 5,1 using OCLP 2.2.0

No issues - App store opens fine, Safari browses OK, Mail works. I wasn't aware of this issue until reading the thread now, so I haven't done anything to compensate.

On Sonoma, I'd been seeing the occasional crash with EXC_BAD_INSTRUCTION (SIGILL) as the reason. But I hadn't spotted a pattern to what set it off, and this went away when I jumped to Sequoia, so I stopped worrying about it.

So, just to be sure I'm understanding this correctly. Without doing any custom installation whatsoever, you were able to install 15.3.1 using OCLP 2.2.0 and everything is working properly for you?

If so that means something else must be going on here, like OCLP not updating root patches properly despite multiple attempts and multiple "revert root patches" commands being issued.

Does anyone else have confirmation that things do still work for some users?

You're reading correctly. App store and Safari open and work fine. I don't use them every day (Firefox here), but they do get used. And I'd notice any app or system crashes. Mail gets used every day, most of the day.

When upgrading, I always clone my existing install to a fresh partition with SuperDuper using Smart Update. This only clones the "- data" volume, but that's enough. Then use an OCLP install USB to upgrade-in-place with the clone. I keep my previous OS versions around and fully workable, so I could go back easily. And for software compatibility testing.

If memory serves, I cloned from Sonoma to 15.3.0 (using OCLP 2.2.0), then updated to 15.3.1 a few days later via Software Update. With OCLP doing its thing in the background so the update goes smoothly. I believe root patching was done using the 15.3 KDK because the 15.3.1 wasn't available yet.

I'd be happy to test my install, if you have something to look closer at. Tell me how to check if Java JIT is enabled or disabled, and I'll give my result, for example.

Thank you for offering, but I have at my disposal a quantity of these machines, so I will simply set one up for testing purposes and see what happens again with a completely clean install. (You can find the commands for turning Java JIT on and off in post 19 of this thread, but since your system is working I wouldn't touch it if I were you.)

I saw the JIT on-off instructions, but did not want to gamble with a working system. I'd prefer a read-only way to check the current status.

Anybody know if the new update to opencore (2.3.10) has solved the safari/app store crashing issue?

@thedogshow, welcome from the future. The most recent release of OCLP is 2.3.2 which came out less than 12 hours ago. I'm guessing a few months before 2.3.10 will be released.

If you know any stock picks we should pay attention to, we'd be most appreciative.

Personally, I'm on Sequoia 15.3.2 with OCLP 2.3.2 (root patches are still 2.3.1). No crashes on Safari or the App Store. Must be my clean living, with regular pizza rations. You should not skip the essential snacks.

oops...typo...sorry.

Regardless....2.3.2 isn't working (for this issue) either. Still no Safari or App Store. Worked fine in 15.1.1 but lost it after that.

Anything greater than 15.1.1 also remains non-functional for me, even with completely clean installs.
I have a 5.1 running a 15.2 beta 2 which has functioning Safari and App Store. When testing 15.4 I experience the same crash on startup as you.

On discord I found:
it appears that Safari 18.2's JavaScript JIT requires AVX, so please __**avoid installing macOS 15.2 or any Safari updates on Ventura/Sonoma if you have a pre-Sandy Bridge CPU**__. if you've already updated and are seeing crashes, `launchctl setenv JSC_useJIT false; launchctl setenv __XPC_JSC_useJIT false` may allow Safari/Music/App Store to launch, but _performance will be drastically reduced_. we are investigating further; please be patient.

Thank you lx#1 for this information! I put the first commands into Terminal and ran them. The problems with Safari and the App Store appear to be fixed. Thank you!

Is there anywhere to find the 15.1.1 beta releases, or has Apple pulled all of those from public access? Would they maybe be available to paid developer subscription users?

Not a beta, but the official release of 15.1.1 (24B91) was uploaded to the Internet Archive by @khronokernel:

Apple removed it months ago, all public links are now 403. Also, not available anymore with a dev subscription.

Thanks tsialex! Much appreciated. Downloading it now.

I plan to back date to 15.1.1 and see how things work. The work around given above does seem to solve some of the problems, but the AVX/AVX2 problems may continue on anything newer than 15.1.1.

I'm not sure why my Sequoia installs do not have these problems. Just upgraded to 15.4.1 - app store and Safari still good. But it suddenly occurred to me - my CPUs are upgraded to X5680s. Perhaps X56xx CPUs are the difference between stability and weirdness.

None of my other upgrades (drives, SSDs, McFiver) are likely to affect app stability. Also, I tried Sequoia before getting the McFiver, so it cannot be the key.

Suggest a web page to visit in Safari, or a free app to test. Perhaps a particular app to view in the App Store.

I'd be happy to run a few Sequoia tests, see if I can trigger crashes.

I noticed that there are several files at the internet archive. Should I download all of them to make 15.1.1 work?

15.3.1 and Music constantly crashes. It's AVX2.
Since OCLP doesn't allow any kind of feedback, or posting in their forums, I don't know if they are even aware.
I'm thinking of rolling back to Sonoma.
You can't even install iTunes anymore. Sonoma was the last...
I have to go through all of my apps and see if the rest will all work under Sonoma before rolling back, unless anyone knows if OCLP is working on a solution.
The great thing about Martin Los's OC, was they you could contact him.
OCLP allows no feedback of any kind.
My OCLP is at 2.3.2
Mac Pro 5,1

OCLP at 2.3.2 here too with Sequoia 15.4.1. I just opened Music and began playing a few local songs (I don't have any Apple-purchased songs). Tried a saved internet radio bookmark. No crashes, and the music played fine.

I'm goig to try 15.4.1 before I downgrade, but try using srarch in your library and see if it crashes. I am using a loal library too.
I deleted all videos, because those made it crash every single time, and I thought that fixed it, but then when searching, and selecting different songs, it crashed again.
I can make it crash every time I open it by just searching around in the library.
My library is over 60GB.

My music library is 2.6 GB, mostly ripped from CDs. No videos in iTunes library. Search in Music just produced expected results, no crashes. I'll try other things, if you can think of them. My specs are in my sig, and Sequoia has just worked for me. The only thing wrong that I've noticed is small hesitations when doing things (like clicking on links in browsers) but no crashing.

Is that the Discord location, or the OCLP web site? I went on the Discord site and got some help from a member on the OCLP Discord location.
