slow and pages don't render well all the time...that threw me off enough to stop using it further....
so far, safari rocks n although it crashed a couple of times on my mac, it's never crashed on my iPhone or given any me any problems....it became good enough for me right after they removed the 8-tab limit!

are you sure you are using Opera?

At first blush i was not impressed, but i'm keeping it around because one forum i frequent the most is pretty much unusable in mobile Safari, but works great in Opera.

There are still plenty of bugs (although I suspect that the lack of spell check and pinch to zoom are limitations somehow imposed by Apple), but I think it's a decent first effort, and honestly, the more I use it the better I like it. Some sites are rendered far better, and somehow text seems crisper and more modern than in Safari. Ridiculously faster in many scenarios, too.

Lack of spell check
Poor Rendering
Zoom is wonky

Nothing matters more than the simple fact that it lacks the appropriate security that all web browsers will need. You're out of your mind if you continue to use this based on some disclaimer by the developers saying it's safe to use. Fix that and I'll use it again.

Safari is the better mobile browser but I've found myself using Opera a lot. On 3G the pages load almost instantly and on EDGE its as fast as Safari is on 3G.

I tried to load a random page on Edge and it was just as slow as Safari.

I get the feeling that pages that aren't loaded by users as often are somewhat slower to respond. Try sites like nytimes.com, etc and you'll see it loads very quickly.

The interface is kind of a pain, but the speed is handy when I'm on 3G or EDGE and don't want to have to wait 30 seconds for a page to come up.

Everybody was talking about this thing like it was the second coming of Jesus. I downloaded it and it STINKS ON ICE. Anyone who says this is better than Safari is blowing steam up their own backside.

I agree that Opera mini is a bag of hurt.

Graphics look terrible, fonts look terrible and are sized and spaced incorrectly.

Does not render all CSS3 attributes.

I could go on....

Opera blows, maybe the EU should adopt iCab as the Union's browser, because Opera flat out sucks.

The independent Atomic Web Browser, with it's own glitches, is far and away better than Opera mini.....

I think the fact that Opera doesn't reload previously loaded pages is enough for me to use it over Safari. I hate having to wait everytime I go back to a previous page.

My favorite local restaurant has an online ordering system. Opera loaded the pages at least twice as fast as Safari, with some pages loading even faster.

I agree that they've got some bugs to work out and some features will take a while to get used to. But overall, IMO, given that this is their first release, I think it's got potential.

installed it, played around with it for a while, uninstalled it. Not impressed, and frankly, don't really see the point. Safari does all I need, works well etc.

That is why it was approved in the first place. It does really nothing on the iPhone. All the apps are integrated with Safari - like opening links from emails. It might be fast but not accurate. Also note that the NY times they show actually says referer to be Opera mini. Whenever this is not the case the load times are slower.

Bottom line, it is nice it was approved, but there are bunch of browsers that were approved in the past, just did not have a big name like Opera. I do not think the majority of users will keep it for long

It works perfect for EDGE and GPRS networks on which Safari is oh very slow. Rest i prefer Safari. The scroll would be my major gripe with Opera, it goes left right while scrolling in zoomed mode.

Not impressed, and although it is the top downloaded app across most countries I'd love to know how many people have made the complete switch over from Safari.

It'sa really fickle thing but I don't like the way it just stops dead when you reach the end of the page. I know that's a stupid thing not to like, but I don't :p
I do like the start page thing with the ability to add your own pages onto it. I think that's quite a nice feature. Opera does seem to render quicker and although I've heard a lot of people saying about it not rendering sites correctly I haven't found that personally. I just really hope they add pinch zoom functionality because it seems really wierd not being able to.

All in all, for now I think I'll give it a week of only using Opera, but at the minute I'm more for Safari.

Its much faster than safari. Im on an ipod touch 2G on wifi and the difference is very noticeable.

Yup, and it loads data quicker too - on a 2G GRPS system I'm getting pages literally four or five times faster than Safari.

It's brilliant on low bandwidth. Safari is still better for Wifi (though find in page is very, very useful). The two are complimentary, not competitors. Nobody can make a Safari competitor while you're not allowed to do interpretive code in the SDK or for instance replace the API calls for the default browser.

I'm finding that it is much easier than safari to navigate one-handed. It's different than Safari, but I think it is actually pretty decent. Again, many sites are rendered for me better than Safari, or at least in a more readable format. Pinch to zoom is awesome in Safari, but frankly there are a lot of sites that I find myself having to constantly zoom in and out (using two hands). Many of those same sites are far more readable in Opera.

Was considering downloading and trying so first step was to look at this thread and read about all the great things Opera can do. Well may just rearrange my sock draw instead. That looks to be a better use of time.
