Reminds me of what browsing used to be prior to Mobile Safari.

According to Wikipedia, Opera Mini was released on August 10, 2005. And it has barely changed since in my opinion.

I downloaded it on my 1G iPod Touch and used it, it wasn't as great as it was supposed to be. On my device it loads webpages about the same (On the same network as Safari).

If you're comparing it to safari...Opera is the ugly stepsister.

Opera is so much faster for me over Edge in my rural area it's ridiculous. I don't have a lot of 3G coverage around where I live, so it will come in handy.

Will it replace Safari? No way.

But near 3G speeds over Edge because of the compressed data = big win. I'll keep it around for those circumstances alone.

Opera is slow as **** on my iPhone. WiFi or 3G so slow that a page takes 6 minutes!! to load!

Safari is faster and the poinch to zoom in Opera is so horrible it's a shame as Opera for Mac or Windows is superb. Major disappointment for me :(

No good for me.

While it appears to be lightening fast with my website It doesn't do what I need it to do.
My website has drop down menus (using Joomla 1.5 btw) they don't work so I can't submit an article using the iphone. Even when I go into an existing article to edit it you still can't type in the body of the editor. Now this could also have a lot to do with the editors being incompatible with iPhone but..... :apple:Sorry Opera, it sucks.

If I want to quickly check a website while I'm "on the run" (to look for updates and such), I'll use Opera. The rendering of websites is just so lightening fast, it saves me a bunch of time.

If I have a bunch of time on my hands and want to have a 100% pleasurable experience, I'll use Safari.

I think if we give it time, Opera will iron out all the kinks and it will be overall much better than Safari.

have been so used to using Atomic Browser so my comparison is between Opera Mini and Atomic Browser rather then Safari. Opera Mini would not even come remotely close to what Atomic Browser could offer in terms of speed (please read my post fully to understand why I say this), efficiency, and accuracy.

1) Scrolling down vertically is hard to do. It bumps left and right as it scrolls. Not very nice.
2) It's inefficient and requires way too many steps to perform task. I'm comparing this with my favorite Atomic Browser which supports full screen browsing and gesture navigation, and here are the differences:

Go to next tab

--------------
Opera : Three touches
A.B: One swipe

Go to Previous tab

------------------
Opera: Three touches
A.B: One swipe

To refresh

----------
Opera: Two touches
A.B: One touch

To Access Book Mark

--------------------
Opera : Three touches
A.B. One touch or swipe

To add new bookmark

--------------------
Opera: Five before you're back to the same page
A.B: 3 touches before you're back to the same page

To Show all open tabs

----------------------
Opera: two touches
A.B: One touch or swipe

To go to webpage

-----------------
Opera: Two touches
A.B: One touch or swipe

To Access Setting

-----------------
Opera: Three touches
A.B. One touch

To Lock Screen Rotation

-----------------------
Opera: Not supported
A.B. Two touches

Change font size

-----------------
Opera: Not supported
A.B. Two touches

Pinch and zoom

---------------
Opera: Not supported. Only double tapping to zoom in and out
A.B. Yes

Webpage rendering

------------------
Opera: Plenty of incorrect fonts, at some places, the link would not work. IN www.smh.com.au for example, some webpages only shows part of the report, and requires users to click "show more" to read the full webpage. It is not not possible to click on that link to read the rest.
A.B: Very good. All links work.

Open link in background

----------------------
Opera: Not supported
A.B: Supported*********

3. Speed of webpage loading – a case for opening links in the background ahead of time.

The ability to open links in a new background tab is very important to me. The typical way I read postings on a forum such as this or is to click on all unread threads in the background tabs first. I usually have ten background tab opened. By the time I open the 10th background tab, the first seven or eight are already fully rendred in Atomic browser. So, I simply do a two finger swipe to move from tab to tab to read pages which are already 100%. This method of reading webpages BEATS opera mini in terms of speed ten thousand %. After reading the content in each page, I simply double finger swipe down to close that tab. Therefore, in terms of speed, Opera Mini will suffer hugh disadvantage, not advantage when compared to Atomic browser.

4. Use of screen space when in full browsing mode

---------------------------------------------
Opera : Taskbar does not go away during full screen browsing
A.B: Fully utilize precious screen space, including the taskbar

5. Others
Secured browsing should users wants privacy
Opera: A big worry
A.B: Supported.
