Not for any length of time, tablets/laptop sure not phones.

yet...the statics would say otherwise...

The time U.S. users are spending in mobile apps is continuing to grow; according to new datareleased this week by analytics firm Flurry, we’re up to 5 hours per day on our mobile devices.

This is why I don't bother anymore. Go and talk to any Note 8 owner and see if your statement is correct.....Have a good day :)
I still have a Note 3 that runs like the day I bought it. People forget that these phones use to be easily rootable and custom ROMs made them beasts.

I went to hospital several years ago for a large operation and I was in there convalescing for around six weeks. During that period I used my then iPhone 5 for everything and it's amazing how quickly we adapt to the tools we have to hand. When I came out of hospital I still used my iPhone 5 for everything despite having access to a laptop again.

Fast forward a few years and I now use my Note 8 for everything. I browse the web on it 100% of the time, I watch You Tube for hours, I watch sport and yes I even watch films on it. It's just normal for me to do all of that on my smartphone and it's one of the reasons that I spend big on the best (*IMO) smartphone every 12-ish months. I use the hell out of them and demand the best screens & best specs. It's people who have great phones and then barely use them that have me scratching my head. They have an iPhone X tucked in their pocket but wouldn't dream of browsing the web or watching a movie on it "because the screen is too small". So why the heck drop so much cash on a phone when you don't even use it for the reasons it was designed??

I have a MacBook and 2 iPads, yet my iPhone is still my primary computing device. Which is why like you I upgrade every year and go for the best. My smartphone has been my primary computer for several years now. It was the same when I was using samsung devices. For me my smartphone is the best device because its with me all the time, its the most personal and its the most conveneiant because of its size and portability. I can easily whip out my phone wherever I am. An iPad or laptop isn’t as convenient and in some places it would be cumbersome and counterproductive.

What do you think is driving the large phone trend??? The answer is media consumption. Large screen phones are starting to cannibalise Tablet sales. I consume all my media on my Phone or TV. My Laptop is used for creating content and web browsing. Like others have said its the reason people are prepared to pay so much for these huge phones, they use them for a massive percentage of their computing needs. I watched You Tube videos for a few hours today on my phone and do so on a regular basis.

Media consumption includes listening to music and podcasts as well. Our phones have replaced tablets and laptops for the most part for all media consumption.

Each to their own but I wouldn’t watch anymore than 5 mins of video on a phone.
When travelling prefer a iPad.
Have better things to do than watch hours of youtube on a phone.

Why keep buying a screen you hate?

Because I love the phones otherwise. If another manufacture made as good of a phone with a flat screen, I'd be all over it. But no one else makes a Note 8 alike. And my work either requires iPhones or Samsung Galaxy devices.

Except it’s curved.

This is just my personal opinion, but for me, the Whitestone Dome screen protector turns curved screen smartphones into usable devices.

Again this is just my opinion. I know there are many who do not like these screen protector or any screen protector.

Fair enough, that's a shame for you.

Don't come here with your facts and logic, they defeat his whole defense and narrative

I mean seriously though, we ALL know mobile entertainment, particularly video has seen a huge jump these last few years, hence Facebook just launched IGTV, hence Netflix and Amazon have Mobile apps with HDR support, hence YouTube app has HDR support etc etc.... People are binge watching on their phones. Why lug around a laptop or tablet when your phone has a far better display with a much higher PPI, iPads still use crappy IPS LCD, I barely use my iPad for video as it's display just isn't as crisp or vivid as my Note8 Display.

Lol, if Apple were to ruin the GPS chip in the next iPhone I bet we will have an iFans come in here saying GPS on phones is for kids, and that they use a standalone GPS. Gotta defend it no matter what I guess.

Don’t the Samsung tab S series have oled displays?? Although probably not as good as the note 8/S9+

Bit strange someone would visit a Apple forum frequently even in the alternatives section if they hate Apple so much and use words like iFans, the forum is full of them and they do come in here, so seems just like stiring the pot to me.

There is plenty of Android only forums but i guess you cant get any bites there as everyone agrees :)

If you read thoroughly you would know I own an iPad. ;)
Apple make the best tablets in the industry in my opinion and so I choose iPad for that product category everytime, about to get my 3rd one, possibly next year.

There is a huge difference between iFans and the rest of us who use Apple products, the latter accept and admit Apple's mistakes and and downsides and don't endlessly defend them.

It reminds me of the time of iPhone 5s and before when Apple fans relentlessly and vehemently defended small screens in the face of Android phablets. Who would want a large screen?

Or wasn’t at least interested in one!

Ha ha. It was only after the 6 plus that I came back to Apple. Small screens back then equaled no iphone for me. However I will admit back in 2010 I did say that the galaxy phones were too big but by 2012 I’d ditched my iphone and gotten the original galaxy note.

Yeah because watching videos on a 5-6" screen is fun.

I watch media on my phone for 1+ hours at a time while at the gym or while trying to fall asleep some nights. Using a regular S9 and it's a joy. 5.8" screen with no notch that actually allows me to utilize the entire screen makes things nicer. I have no use for tablets, those things are a waste of money. I use a 2.5 pound ThinkPad for work. To each his own.

Not right now but have had Note 4, S5, S7 edge, Note 8, few HTC/Motorolla, didn't like the curved screen since Samdung went that way, i have given up for now.

There's a lot of them that do this.

He was reflecting himself on me.
Maybe he just doesn't understand the concept of people who are not loyal to one company.

Read above.

I can see that would be good, i was more on about movies etc. I agree re notch it makes my X a near 8 size for video or you have notch, its even worse with our pay TV app if i want to watch a bit of sport when out it cuts of the scores/logos.
I know the difference my wife has a 8 plus, if i could handle the size/weight and bezels i would prefer it.
Although no home button is good but i hate FID, i don't even use it for unlock.
As i have a 5K iMac and iPad the X makes them better to use.
If the Note 8 i had wasn't so tall and had a flat screen i would of kept it.

I agree with tablets we just have the base year 17 and 18 4G 9.7's. Picked up cheap off gumtree. All we need.
