People take pics with the iPad?

Absolutely. I personally don't take it out when sightseeing but there are plenty of use cases - document scanning, a quick snap of the kids, photographs of items for eBay etc.
People think of iPad Photography as a dirty subject with the image of people at concerts or tourist attractions holding up their iPads to take photos. Some people do this but there are plenty of more sensible applications.

I saw someone theorise that if it was completely flush, it would be hard to pick the iPad up from sitting on a flat surface

That was never a problem with the previous generations though.

Just noticed that is disappointing. So $200 premium over last year for speakers, and edge to edge screen, and A12X. (NO other screen improvement in contrast, HDR, anti reflective, brightness advertised....)

Last time we got an upgrade panel, camera, and chip for the same price as the model before.

The more I look at this model the less I like it  and that scares me usually with Apple I tell myself I don’t want it and then after two looks of the product page I’m trying to figure out how to get it.
It’s a Liquid Retina display. This is a new LCD that first appeared on the iPhone XR. It has smaller transistors and a higher aperture so more light is let through the panel, reducing energy use and increasing color clarity. They did a big thing on it during the iPhone XR reveal.

I wish they’d sell a version with no rear camera(no bump). I don’t care about a rear camera on my iPad.

I think you’re part of a small minority. I don’t see them going that route with an iPad. The option would more likely be on an iPod Touch (if they were to ever release a new one.

OK yeah I may have got the terminology mixed up. But the screen width is still the same as the 10.5", with the body being wider. So bigger side bezels.

I noticed bigger bezels right away. The top and bottom bezel still isn’t at all bothersome to me like they were for the 9.7 Pro I owned prior to the 10.5 that I own now.

Ha, probably. I would think they’d take it off the iPad before the touch though. It makes sense to carry around an iPod touch to take pictures, not a big iPad.

I agree most people probably prefer it to have a camera though. But I bet the percentage of people who actually use it on an iPad is very low. Rear camera of course, front likely gets used a lot more.

I use the rear camera regularly for scanning documents as well as photographing items for sale online. I don’t need OIS or the very latest tech but I would still require a good quality rear camera for my iPad.

I use mine all the time to scan documents, but taking actual photos I have not done once. I see it more as a utility feature.

Anyways if they made an iPad that was a couple mm thicker, it would allow for a flush camera, OIS, a larger battery, headphone jack and a less bendy frame (all presumably). I would be ALL OVER THAT but it wouldn't be as 'pretty' so I can't see Apple ever doing it. I do wish they weren't so concerned with aesthetics sometimes.

Haha, maybe just people who take photos with an iPad in certain situations or places;)

Still.... it’s cruel to wish for someone to be shot just because they use a camera on a tablet. What the heck is wrong with people? Considering I lost a loved one from a gun shot, it’s unacceptable to me.

There wasn’t enough thickness for a higher end camera. Putting the camera behind the screen instead of the bezel means you have you have a millimeter or two less thickness for the camera module to fit in.
The headphone jack was probably removed for a similar reason.

I think i’d rather have the bezel. I’d don’t see much advantage to Face ID on the iPad.

But OIS on iPad’s camera, that you use daily :)

Why do some people have problems with using iPad as a camera? Why? I mean, does it influence you in any way? And do you have issue with other random acts people do to make you wish them to be shot?

If they could do all that without increasing the weight, maybe they would. Many would probably prefer the current weight instead of 50% heavier with a bigger battery.

I have had iPads since iPad 2 and have never used the rear camera but, that’s me.

Same here. I loathe the people who walk around with them in public, particular tourists in public places. They pull out an iPad Air 2 to take a photo yet carry an iPhone X on them. It just blows my mind how idiotic that is.
