What’s interesting is the charge to 80% limit only applies at night. If you charge in the day it will go beyond 80%. So it just stops it from staying at full overnight.

No, mine is all done and learnt. Last night I can see it sat at 80% all night until morning.

Since iOS 13 was released to the public, they have been releasing updates to where they can’t get enough time for Optimized Charing to learn the device’s usage.

Updates haven’t reset it.

My comment was based on you stating the optimized charging only works at night and not throughout the day. So which is it?

A comparatively ancient iPhone 6s here. I think the maximum charge rate on this model is 5w. I generally charge with a 12w charger and I've never seen it work. I'd also like it if it worked during the day - if I'm using my phone heavily throughout the day, I'm pretty consistent about charging for an hour between 4 and 5 PM, and if it would stop at 80%, that would be fine by me. Better yet, just give me full control over the entire charge schedule! 😆

This "optimized" charging is just so Apple can look like they give a **** about your battery. If they really cared, they would just let us set it manually or take into account our alarms. If a small change in schedule completely breaks it and needs another few weeks for it to relearn, what is the point? Not everyone has the same repeat schedule. It's been a month and it still doesn't work properly. When it does decide to stop at 80%, it'll finish topping up to 100% halfway through the night. Recently I moved my bedtime alarm forward and now it doesn't even use optimized charging anymore. Useless.

Day 1 iOS 13 updater, optimized charging STILL not working.

Regular schedule, charged nightly and up at the same time 5x a week.

What gives?

Don’t feel bad. Mine hasn’t worked either since ios13 dropped! And just like you I’m on a daily schedule.

In what way does it not work for you?

As in when you put it on the charger it should charge to 80% during the night, holding at 80% until last hour(s) then finish the charge to 100%.

Mine also took a couple weeks after iOS 13 dropped to start working. I checked it a few times after that and confirmed it appeared to be doing its thing (i.e. charge to 80%, hold for a few hours, then complete charging to 100% by the time I woke up). Now, on 13.2, I happened to look at it a couple mornings this week, and it appears to not be working again--it's just charged to 100% and holding the duration of the night.

Does the optimized charging feature work for anyone? I have my 11pro since about a month now and charge it every night between midnight and varying morning hours but usually in the same 8-9am ballpark. My charging graph always looks like this, doesn’t seem very optimized to me... I’m on the 13.3 pb

Funnily enough, the battery life on my XR is so great that I charge the phone every two or three days so I don’t think optimised charging has had time to kick in, especially since I don’t charge at the same time of day.

Works well for me. Looking at the chart it flattens off around 10pm, then kicks into gear around 3am so that it's nice and charged for my 5:30am wake up.

2-3 days? LOL what a joke. You must be using your phone only for texting and phone calling and even then i highly doubt your phone's battery lasts for 2-3 days on a single charge.

Unplugged it on Friday at 7AM (100%), it’s Sunday noon now, 53%.
I never claimed heavy usage, but for me the fact that I can use the phone as much as I need or want to and not have to plug in all weekend is great. It’s not heavy usage by any means, but the standby times are great in iOS13, better than before.
With normal use (browsing, texting, calls, reading twitter, listening to music on AirPods, using Notes etc throughout the day) it was already a two-day phone on iOS12, and iOS13 has improved on that. This isn’t outlandish at all for the XR.

Thanks to insomnia i know it is. It gets to 80% and waits there until about 4am. It displays a message on the screen when its doing it.

Your claims are absolutely absurd, the 11 Pro has a much better battery than your XR yet no one claims such bogus battery usage stats as you. The 11 pro doesn’t have a 2 day battery life, if it was unused in standby then it might be possible but if the phone is actually used then no way will you get through a day without having to charge period.

Does this work for anyone out there who is using a smart battery case with their phone? Does it keep the internal battery at 80% and the case battery at 80%? I’m using the iPhone 7 with smart battery case and I’ve yet to see this feature work also. Both batteries go to 100% overnight.

I don’t see what’s so strange about it. Like I said, I never claimed heavy usage, in fact I said “standby times” in my post. You can equate the images I posted with “unused” if you want, though that wouldn’t be accurate. The battery stats don’t show everything for some reason (had a 10-minute call through whatsapp, that only shows one minute SOT, most definitely had more than one minute in Viber all weekend, phone app shows one minute SOT maybe because I turn the screen on during calls and use the speaker etc), but it doesn’t matter.

Even if it was all pure standby without me touching the phone, this is still great. LTE and BT are always on, except when LPM is turned on during the night (DND automation).

It surprises me that this is so odd to people. The XR has been a battery champ since it came out. It’s always been a two-day phone for me with regular, moderate usage. If I’m busier and the phone spends more time in standby, this is the result.
