Just ordered the Quad-Core stock version for UK delivery in February.

Absolutely no need for it, my current Mac mini does all I want but having seen it and played with it briefly in my local Apple stores I had to have it.

Crazy but that's the way it is sometimes!

Since this thread is just for celebrating our little moment of happiness after clicking the order button, I will admit that I as well just ordered an 8core D700 512GB SSD one with 64GB of Ram from external. :D
I guess my Late 2012 imac would have served me more than well for the next two years as well, but since I will be able to sell it with almost 0 € of value loss due to tax stuff, it's not a bad deal! :)

Congrats to you richardmu ! :)

Like you guys, I couldn't resist either. I just ordered a 12-core, D700, 1TB flash, 64 GB, and two of those nifty 4K Sharp displays. I don't really need it...I mostly just use it for iCal and Maps, but figured, hey, why not??!!

The secret was I somehow got my wife to visit the Apple store in Bristol yesterday without me at the time, a miracle in itself. Her view was 'it looks funky'.

Tonight after a couple of glasses of wine came the bombshell, she says if you really want one then order it. Nuff said, order is in!

Careful, you both may have buyer's remorse after the initial enthusiasm wanes. That's a lot of money to spend, including external hard drive enclosure, for little immediate need. A computer depreciates greatly the moment it is released. This very year the new Haswell-EP CPU, DDR4 RAM, USB 3.1, HDMI 2.0, 10 Gb ethernet, 802.11ad wifi etc should all be available for a potential refresh. This forum has a lot of enthusiam but seek a more balanced view. Good luck!

I can't WAIT for those...I figure at that point I'll get a few of those and give the current nMP to one of my kids.

Very true. Buyers remorse lurks constantly whenever I buy new Apple kit, which recently has been every few weeks with the Air and new iPad mini. Going through a bad or good time depends on how you look at it. No regrets about either new purchases so roll on the new Mac Pro. Very excited!

I'm having more fun upgrading my 2009 MP than I would if I were to buy a new one. Each upgrade is like buying a new toy. Plus when it's all done I'll have my little Frankenstein creation. I'll probably get a nMP a few generations down the line. They do look cool.

After many if's and but's I decided to go with a 6-core nMP with the D700s, my old iMac from 2009 will be retired and used as a screen, ready to be shipped in February.

No pun intended :D

She'll be 6 by then. Do you think the D700s will be enough? She doesn't really use a lot of apps...mostly goes to sites like www.pbskids.com...but I think 2 cores/yr should be enough, right?

No, No, No....Hopefully the D900's will be out, and you can upgrade your unit before you hand it over to her! Those HTML5 games and videos use a butt TON of GPU horsepower! If not, I guess you can sell it, and buy her a new haswell alongside yours!

I like the way you think, bud.

I had everything from a Quad to an 8-core ordered. If I ordered the mPro the way I wanted, I was over $6k without a monitor or an external storage solution. With that I'd be over $8k.

Decided to go with a loaded iMac for under $2300. For my needs it will be just as fast.

I'll miss the little round cylinder on my desk, but I'd rather have a pile of $5,000 there instead. ;)

But congrats on yours!!

Always someone to spoil the splurge party...

I was going to order a hex core later in the Spring after I have enough Dough-Ray-Me saved up...but all of this talk has me itchy! How many forms of payment can I split my order into? I think I have four or five credit cards where I could scrape together enough available credit (if I can add them all together) and just go ahead and get the 12 core monster! Of course, I'm getting the 64 gigs RAM too....that's a no brainer with a computer with all of this power! Bring it!

Don't be impatient. Just wait a few months and I'll sell you my daughter's.

You WILL miss it! Every time you see a picture of one, or go into an Apple store, it will be like....what if! I'm not taking the chance of wishing...I'm taking the plunge!

Gotta be someone may as well be me. ;)

I don't doubt it! I'd have a harder time with this decision if there weren't so many unknowns with the nMP and its performance and delivery dates. These vague "January" and "February" dates probably mean the last day of the month... so we'd actually get them in March.

I may very well jump on the nMP bandwagon after the Guinea pigs try them out for a while. ;)

I digress, the iMac is a piece of crap actually. And if you want to be all proud of yourself for ordering one of those 27 inch laptops, then mosey yourself on over to the iMac forums where other mere mortals await your enthusiasm. This here forum is for us serious power users!
