Actually the Canadian models drop 5G mmWave in favor of the SIM slot (which sadly is just replaced in the US by a placeholder piece of plastic!), but they also have two additional FDD-LTE Bands, namely 11 and 21 which are missing on the US model, likely since carriers in the US do not use them but Canadian carriers do.

Maybe since the US models SIM reader is just missing but the solder points and space for it is there, someone could add it by soldering one (sadly while voiding the warranty) and replace the side with one with the cutout from Canada, so that it would be complete with both SIM and 5G mmWave.... Yeah, fat chance given how complex the process would be.

Also, it seems that in order to get warranty support for an iPhone bought in Canada you'd have to ship it there or take it there in person, so not very practical.

There goes the idea for me to buy one in Canada and take it to the US. Sounds like I may just buy a nice used iPhone X and use it for travel while enjoying the 14 Pro Max in the US.

Canada is not that far for millions of Americans. :)

It used to be true, but starting in 2018, everything changed with the introduction of dual-SIM slot models. Apple won't service models if they don't have physical replacements. U.S. stores don't have any physical SIM iPhone 14 replacements which means they won't touch it.
Makes sense, but only in cases where the entire phone needs to be replaced. What about a cracked screen or back glass? They all use the same parts, except for the logic board which includes a different cellular chip with mmWave 5G and had the SIM reader removed in the US.

So I see no reason it’s impossible to provide some service.

Apple Store rationale is, in the event their technicians mess up with a repair, they cannot provide a replacement device. So if you bring a dual-SIM XR or physical SIM 14, the store cannot properly replace the device. The customer cannot waive their rights and agree to receive a different model.

Good point. Apple should stock a few international models in each store and this would be resolved. Sadly that will not happen.

An iPhone purchased in the US will not have warranty coverage outside the US. This restriction would also apply to any Apple Care plan for an iPhone.

it's dated Dec 2021........ it would help if you looked it up

it's already picked up... I ended up coming to Canada earlier.(swapped trips with my co-worker) Do Canadians just trust people more? I showed the Apple Store chick the pick-up email on my phone and she just handed me the phone. Didn't even check my ID or passport and just handed the phone to me, a foreigner(American) who lives 1700 miles away. :)

I'm really impressed by the iPhone 14 Pro Max with a SIM card slot! Another amazing technical achievement by Apple, Inc. Oh wait a minute.....
I bought 14 Pro of eBay brand new saved £400 of it I only relised till it started coming up with WLAN it was the China / Hong Kong version so it technically will take 2x Nano Sims

Much better then the UK version which I’d of have to fork out £1300 for 😂

Only bummer is the warranty haven’t spoke to Apple yet but i know they will be like the warranty won’t be valid in it in the United Kingdom but that said I do have PayPal buyer protection on it for 6 months and will have to cradle it I guess 😂

I doubt they will enforce

Not true. Apple now places a tiny explosive charge in each Canadian iPhone produced. If the GPS chip detects that a Canadian iPhone has been smuggled into the USA, it will detonate, rendering the phone's motherboard and display inoperable. Be careful!! 💥

Wonder
They really don’t want you to have the SIM slot! :D

Think about how many visitors travel to NY or FL to bring it back to Europe, Middle East, or Latin America. Apple doesn’t stop any of those shoppers for warranty issues.

Apple is worried about credit card fraud first and warranty support second. If a lot of people buy grey market, it messes with Apple’s demand and demographics data.
Wonder if anyone has done a preorder of an iPhone in a foreign land ? Wonder if Apple will allow me to preorder the 15 series on launch if I’m still in the UK? So many questions 😂 although I did by my mom refurbished 13PM recently for pickup at store with USA CC.
In any case I’d be fool to buy one here. Exchange rate plus all the rest.
