I've heard from a friend of a friend who knows a guy and so on that there were 20,000 units total produced. Not sure if that's per size, per color, but I'd imagine not.The $17,000 gold model that they gave away to a few select celebrities and probably sold none of at retail.
Actual units sold is different, though. I'd bet it's a majority but not all of those 20,000 watches. You have to remember that the people who have the money to buy things like that aren't usually the ones to go parading around online to show it off. For every influencer you see with one, there's a magnitude of people who bought one and never shared their purchase.
I forget, but the alloy they used in this Edition was a custom mix, and to scrap it you would not only have to disassemble the watch but also melt down and process the alloy to extract the gold. It's a lot of labor for only $2,500 worth of gold, which I believe is what the estimates are around. It's worth about that to collectors, if not more.Welp, at least you can still sell the gold parts for scrap money!
Exactly this. I'm a collector who's been trying to find one for not much money, and I've been tracking the sales of the gold Edition watches. There's one that sold in the United Kingdom for only $1,700 at auction, and that had the "$5,000" Classic Buckle (see here), too. It's worth mentioning, though, that that one's an outlier in the recent sales. Here are the ones which have sold recently. I've archived these listings to preserve them.Actually, this is exactly the solution, unless the watch is worth more at auction
This 42mm Rose Gold Edition is possibly the rarest Edition model, which is why it's also the highest sale price at $8,000. Granted, that was after sitting and getting relisted many times with no bids. This one was also a brand new replacement unit, which only helped its value.
There's a seller out of Germany with a 42mm Yellow Gold Edition who has been trying to sell his at ~$9,200 USD for many months, every now and then he'll list it and let the auction run a few times before de-listing it, every time with no bids.
Most recently to sell is this 42mm Yellow Gold Edition out of Orlando Florida from a pawn shop of all places. Listed initially at $7,500, lowered to $6,999, and sold with a best offer of about ~$2,500-3,000 by my estimations. And, if you ask me, that buyer overpaid. (The above is an eBay link since the auction sold recently. Here is an archive link in case the sold auction disappears.
Nope. These edition models given out to celebrities were most likely loaned, so Apple would have taken them back after a period of time. These yellow gold link bracelets were one-offs and only 4 gold link bracelets of any official variety are known to exist.I wonder if legendary singer Beyoncé still uses hers...

Contrary to popular belief, the link bracelet isn't solid 18K gold. It's a regular stainless steel link bracelet that Apple commissioned a local Californian company to gold plate/fill to match the Edition.
I want one of these! Have an offer lined up that I hope doesn't fall through to get one for about $200.I have one accessory left that came with the solid gold watch and that is the leather charging box that it came with. It’s so nice And still works perfectly.

See above. These watches get sold on eBay often enough, but they don't really sell. Take that UK Auction for example, which I'm heavily depressed I didn't have the means to bid on at the time. They don't go up online that much anymore, a few years ago I saw one go for 6k but no one bought it.
The only buyer who might possibly purchase one could be years from now and would probably be an apple tech enthusiast, but i've seen a few of these in the wild around 2015 but that's it.
