I dont know anything about this why? Don't make assumptions about things you have no idea about. Ive followed iPhone from the beginning, and I do know a lot about it.

Just because you'll sit there happily gawking at anything with a white apple logo on it doesn't mean the rest of the world has to.

Get some objectivity.

Booooo! Go back across the pond!

I don't agree. You know how often I'd be trying to load a web page on the tiny iPhone screen and just getting annoyed at trying to find something on the page because I can't read it? Then I have to keep zooming all over the place until I find what I'm looking for. As this happens, I usually get fed up and grab my MacBook Pro. Then I can easily see everything without having to zoom. This isn't only useful for the internet either... imagine what iPhone apps would be like if there were more space for better features, you wouldn't have to flip through screens to navigate, you could have multiple columns to look at at once (like the iPad mail app).

It would be a way better internet device.

You know... nobody thought the iPod was revolutionary when it first was announced. Everyone said it was "just another mp3 player" and that it was going to be a big flop. You wait... the iPad will be a huge success and it definitely has a purpose.

Its interesting you should compare it to that, I was watching the original iPod keynote just a couple of days ago. It was clear from day 1 that this product was going to beat its competition. Several times during the speech, Jobs outlined exactly where this product was different and offered something new and something that was required in the marketplace. Its on youtube - you should see it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kN0SVBCJqLs

Now for your point about the internet. Jobs said that the iPad has to be an excellent inbetween product between the iPhone and the MBP, otherwise it loses its value. Absolutely true. The problem is that they havent delivered this. What they've created is a product that isnt as portable as an iPhone and isnt as versatile and powerful as a MBP. So your internet web page viewing is a perfect example of a problem that it fails to solve. You dont carry your iPad around with you, you probably leave it on the same table as your MBP - so is it really worth the $500 for a product that doesnt do anything new and the new aspect of it (a tablet) isnt really that useful given its size...

The iPad is a cheap alternative for someone who just wants to browse the web casually that is easier to use than a full blown computer. Face it, not everyone likes to muddle around with a track pad. In fact, the iPad is not something *I* would buy because I like using a full sized computer, but if I did not have a MacBook Pro, I'd get one because that's pretty much all I use my MacBook Pro for (and the MacBook is way more expensive).

However, I see my Mom struggle with her laptop with a horrible battery life and she's not really good at the whole trackpad thing and she just wants to check a few websites now and again, check her email and watch some YouTube videos. For her, this would be the PERFECT device. It's not something she's going to carry around everywhere, but it will be sitting on the table next to the couch for whenever she's ready. Also, she wants to get in the eBooks.

The target audience for the iPad is not me… I like the full power of a computer, but the iPad will be *enough computer* for *most* people for what it's used for.

For once I will agree with you, TheSpaz :). I am thinking that my parents and other older generation would appreciate iPad's intuitive touch screen and design with bigger screen over traditional computers.

In fact borrowing from another published idea, I think iPad would be a great tool for home intranet, which you can hang on a wall and the whole family can access it for various purposes.
