Only about a year until the GM :)

It's not 10.10, it's 11.0. And it seems like the perfect time to overhaul everything to iOS 7. And I can't really get behind the iOS 7 style. But apple isn't going to make it more computer like, and skumorphism sucks, so I guess I'm looking forward to this.

OSX 10.10 "Syrah" already in early development

Link to story on 9to5Mac.com: http://9to5mac.com/2013/10/07/as-ma...builds-of-os-x-10-9-1-as-well-as-10-10-syrah/

Syrah is most likely an internal code name for the new OS X. A marketing name probably hasn't been decided on yet, but one suggestion from the comments page on the linked-to article suggests "Sonoma" as a marketing name - which makes a lot of sense to me: Syrah is a type of wine, and high-quality Syrah is sourced from Sonoma.

10.10 for 2014 already? I hope not.

I think Apple should go back to 2 or even 2.5 years cycles for OS X. One year cycles may be ok in the fast moving mobile world for iOS in tandem with new iPhones but it's overkill for a more mature OS X in my opinion.

When some of the ten advertised improvements in 10.9 are "Maps", "Books" and "Safari" improvements you know Apple has run out of ideas. In my view, these apps could have been added to 10.8 easily...

http://www.apple.com/osx/preview/

After all, the entire app store was added to 10.6 without a problem in a point release.

I'm still on 10.6 and will have to move to 10.9 (reluctantly) soon because more and more software titles won't work on 10.6.

That is true, but that has little bearing on Apple's version policy.

And Tiger was super well recieved -- It made sense to update it that far. If they're going to over hall everything to look flat (which I would like) It makes more sense to do it with OS 11 instead of 10.10. Think about it, with OS X they showed off a brand new UI, it would only make sense to rewrite everything and have a new UI for 11. Pre-OS X it was a spaghetti pile, with code dating back to system 1 and now, OS X is a spaghetti pile, with code over 10 years old. May as well show up with a brand new UI.

Again, you are right. I think Apple's got a new UI in store for this OS version too. However, the fact remains that we don't know the version number for certain. So, your guess is as good as mine :)

Your post is silly and incorrect.

Backing up Pickaxe here about the non-removal of instances of Launchpad on previous installments of OS X.

A thread from 2011 proves this. And I can drag out memories from times when I was dragging out Launchpad like a mad man only to have it return on next reboot.

One thread is here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1104263/

Also, I too use a a program that turns reverse scrolling on its head for my mouse. I like it for my MacBook Air trackpad but no so for my mouse.

The point is, while it is probably referred to as 10.10 internally ˆright nowˆ Apple could just as well brand it as OS 11 or whatever at Q2 2014. All we got is confirmation that Apple is already testing the next revision of the OS.

This is just a hunch (well the site's name is MacRUMORS after all), but that Apple would start testing it this early suggests to me that it is a major overhaul.

That thread is for a beta, the first beta of Lion at that.

They always test early, and the heavy implication was that for the next ten years OS X is sticking around. That doesn't mean they can't overhaul it.

The bug was present in the final releases of Lion. It was of course fixed for Lion AFAIK. I know this because I never used betas of Lion as my main OS - and I can remember what problems I had keeping having to take it off the Dock. I just left it there to later embrace it.

It could be changed from 10.10 to 11 for the branding at WWDC.

I remember Safari going from 5.1 to 6 in the Mountain Lion betas.

before people get too excited about the codename:

When they're working on developing the OS, Apple uses 'wine' related codenames.

For example, 10.9 was cabernet.

This is then replaced with a more consumer friendly nickname at developer testing such as big cats or CA places.

It would be very interesting if Apple took the wine theme even further by building the Wine project, for running Windows programs on *nix systems, into OS X. This would allow Mac users to run Windows programs directly on OS X without using a virtualization system like VMWare or Parallels Desktop. Would any other MacRumors readers like to help me persuade Apple to do this? :)
