And I actually like Windows 8 "flatness".
At least they got THAT right

Nope, Dragged it out my dock on day 1 with Lion.
It's not 10.10, it's 11.0.
err, what? confused is right.
Apple doesn't roll versions that way. Remember with Tiger, there was a 10.4.10 and a 10.4.11 - along with rumors of a 10.4.12?Yeah, confused are the people who think it's going to be 10.10Why WOULDN'T it be 11.0?

That is true, but that has little bearing on Apple's version policy.Apple has changed a lot since Tiger.

Again, you are right. I think Apple's got a new UI in store for this OS version too. However, the fact remains that we don't know the version number for certain. So, your guess is as good as mineAnd Tiger was super well recieved -- It made sense to update it that far. If they're going to over hall everything to look flat (which I would like) It makes more sense to do it with OS 11 instead of 10.10. Think about it, with OS X they showed off a brand new UI, it would only make sense to rewrite everything and have a new UI for 11. Pre-OS X it was a spaghetti pile, with code dating back to system 1 and now, OS X is a spaghetti pile, with code over 10 years old. May as well show up with a brand new UI.
So, your guess is as good as mine
We don't. We just know that the placeholder name for the release is currently 10.10
Well, we think we know. Apple could change it, but that's unlikely given history. I think that it's definitely 10.10 internally. No, we know the version number is 10.10.

Your post is silly and incorrect.
That thread is for a beta, the first beta of Lion at that.Backing up Pickaxe here about the non-removal of instances of Launchpad on previous installments of OS X.
A thread from 2011 proves this. And I can drag out memories from times when I was dragging out Launchpad like a mad man only to have it return on next reboot.
One thread is here: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/1104263/
Also, I too use a a program that turns reverse scrolling on its head for my mouse. I like it for my MacBook Air trackpad but no so for my mouse.
They always test early, and the heavy implication was that for the next ten years OS X is sticking around. That doesn't mean they can't overhaul it.The point is, while it is probably referred to as 10.10 internally ˆright nowˆ Apple could just as well brand it as OS 11 or whatever at Q2 2014. All we got is confirmation that Apple is already testing the next revision of the OS.
This is just a hunch (well the site's name is MacRUMORS after all), but that Apple would start testing it this early suggests to me that it is a major overhaul.

before people get too excited about the codename:
When they're working on developing the OS, Apple uses 'wine' related codenames.
For example, 10.9 was cabernet.
This is then replaced with a more consumer friendly nickname at developer testing such as big cats or CA places.
