i have created a el captain image but i get kernel panic i used the kernels/kernel file from os x extractor what is the problem?
*****
My personal experience with the Extractor in a MacBook 4.1 early 2008 was frightening.
I did my best to follow the long list of instructions but not only it did not install Yosemite, which I was trying to do, but at a certain moment I thought the macbook was "finished", entirely out of order. :(
When the computer with my original old Lion seemed to boot and work again, i thanked God for it. :)
Never again will I touch the Extractor.
MCPF in my case doesn't offer Yosemite (for unknown reasons) but until Mavericks it works without causing me fear of ruining the old macbook.
Very probably my knowledge is not enough for using the Extractor...

Thank you very much RocksIRC for your kind post. ;)
My question is the following:
Is this procedure only for MacPros 1.1, 2.1 or can it be used for any unsupported Mac???
I am trying to install in a MacBook 4.1 early 2008 and not in a MacPro!
Thank you in advance for kindly answering me :)

Maybe I missed this but has anyone gotten a recovery partition to work and what is the up with the damn finder freezing up all the time. I have to reboot a few times a day. I think Im going back to Yosemite. Just sux because I cant get final cut pro X to work. it locks up after I start it up as well. Sorry for the rant.

Since we don't know what machine you have or GPU very hard to guess.

Yes, my El Capitan Recovery partition works just fine, I do not experience Finder freezes, nor am I forced to reboot multiple times per day.

What Mac hardware are you running?

Problems are AFAIK very dependent on the hardware (and of course the software or part concerned of the OSX).
Therefore one should not be surprised when posting about a returning serious problem if other users report no problem of that kind at all in their system.
A very frustrating but common experience in this forum :(.
Unfortunately that brings to a situation in which a new post thanking another user for successful help to solve any problem one had...becomes more the exception that the rule.
As MacVidCards rightly pointed, to explain in detail the hardware involved in any sort of problem is an absolute must  to have any chance to get any useful help.
Different computers react in an entirely different way in OSX for reasons far beyond my understanding.
I wonder if this is the case with computers running other OS like Linux or Windows, as well?

Absolutely! I have an old Optiplex 570 that spontaneously reboots when running any variant of Windows from v7-10(even in Safe Mode), but runs every Linux distribution that I've thrown at it as steady as a rock. The most stable Windows 10 installation that I have runs as a VM under El Captian on a Mac Pro 2,1.

Greetings!

I was given a broken iMac 5,1 (Late 2006, A1207 - 2118). Just needed a fresh HDD (SSD), and some RAM. I have a few other mac's around for downloading El Capitan (Mid 2010 Macbook Pro 13", 2011 Macbook Pro 15").

Snagged a copy of SL and it's all installed and updated.

Should I be entertaining hopes of El Capitan on it? I'm fairly confused as to what the actual status is for these little beasties.

Thank you for your time!

EDIT: Man, the Yosemite post has some interesting info in it!

Better install OSX 10.10 Yosemite on it:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/os-x-yosemite-on-unsupported-macs-guide.1761432/

OSX 10.11 El Capitan is due to the System Integrity Protection and the USB-issue quite complicated. You could try a transferred OSX 10.11 from a supported Mac with both Boot.efi replaced and the USB-Inject-All Kext installed.

Seeing as this forum post seems about dead, I decided I would show how I upgraded my Unsupported Mac. Trick is, you make it supported again. It's a $50 upgrade. Less if you do it right. Just watch the video with an open mind and let me know what you think. It may be an idea to consider.

Gotcha! Working through that thread now. Guess I have to hunt down 10.7 Lion!

OSX 10.10 Yosemite as an good alternative - if you're familiar with the command-line and the Terminal-App then it also works from 10.6 Snow Leopard, see the Yosemite-Thread Post #2.

OSX 10.7 Lion is still available in the Apple Store.

Replacing the Logic-Board - that might work too for the MacBook Pro 2,x. The Logic-Board from the by OSX 10.11 El Capitan official still supported MacBook Pro 3,1 (Model A1226, mid 2007) might work too in the MacBook Pro 2,x (Model A1211, late 2006). I had considered this as OSX 10.10 Yosemite came out - but never tried. Maybe it's worth it if you have access to used MBPs and/or spare parts in very good conditions.

iFixit:
Logic-Board Replacement MacBook Pro 2,x (late 2006, Model A1211)
Logic-Board Replacement MacBook Pro 3,1 (mid 2007, Model A1226)

Only reasons I tried it with the MacBook are as follows: 1, parts are stupid cheap. 2, all MacBook models are interchangeable. If the body is relatively the same size, I'd give it a go.

;) Hello -- I have a MacPro 1,1 with Mavericks after going through a lengthy upgrade process 18 months ago. I'm looking for the easiest method to upgrade (not new install) to El Capitan from Mavericks. Any suggestions?

Debating between Yosemite and El Capitan... Does 10.10 work better than 10.11?

Yes, it's better to install OSX 10.10 Yosemite:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/os-x-yosemite-on-unsupported-macs-guide.1761432/

OSX 10.11 El Capitan is due to the System Integrity Protection and the USB-issue quite complicated.

The ATI X1600 works only half-way in OSX 10.10 Yosemite - without QuartzExtreme/CoreImage graphics acceleration and without OpenGL/OpenCL.

Any progress on Macbook 3.1? I get stuck after booting into the Mac setup

The Installer hangs? Because the Input Devices don't work? Looks like the USB-issue.
In my experience the USB-Inject-All Kext works with a transferred OSX but not with a patched Installer.
