Yes, it's better to install OSX 10.10 Yosemite:
https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/os-x-yosemite-on-unsupported-macs-guide.1761432/

OSX 10.11 El Capitan is due to the System Integrity Protection and the USB-issue quite complicated.

The ATI X1600 works only half-way in OSX 10.10 Yosemite - without QuartzExtreme/CoreImage graphics acceleration and without OpenGL/OpenCL.

The Installer hangs? Because the Input Devices don't work? Looks like the USB-issue.
In my experience the USB-Inject-All Kext works with a transferred OSX but not with a patched Installer.

Is it stable with a transferred OSX ? Last experience I had was KP after a few seconds

Thanks.

I went from Lion to Yosemite and it works, although some animations are quite slow without Graphics Acceleration.
OS X Hackers has disappeared so can't get kexts for the ATI X1600...

The same here - Kernel Panics or sudden restarts after a short time. It's not stable on a MBP2,2 too. It seems to have something to do with Pike R. Alpha's Boot.efi - but Pike doesn't own a older Mac and couldn't help with this issue.

Have a look at Post #458 in the Yosemite-Thread. :)

Yes I transferred an OS X installation, but as I said, I got stuck at the configuration window.. so how can i install the kext injector?

Hey, has any got el capitan to fully work on a macbook 4,1 (early 2008) yet?

I'm currently running mavericks but I'm having issues with screen/graphics lag which is pretty unbearable!

Was hoping el capitan might solve this? If not anyone now how to solve this for mavericks?

Thanks!

The graphics problems are not going to be resolved installing El Cap, the issue is with QE/CI and Open GL. I understand that there's not 64bits drivers(kext) for Intel 950/X3100. Until someone got a working 64bit kext for those graphics, we're stock at Mountain Lion.

Ahh okay thanks, managed to stabilise graphics lag on mavericks by reinstalling using macpostfactor. Will stick with this for now then!

I have just got ML installed on my MB 2,1. Everything is working (Even QE/CI). That made me think, How is QE/CI working on the GMA950 under ML if there are no 64bit kexts available. If it works on ML is it possible to get it functional on 10.9/10.10/10.11?

I understand that there are 64bit kext for X3100 and 950, but they're from Snow Leopard and some beta version of Lion. Then Apple removed them from the final version of Lion, that's why there are no stable 64 bit kext. I also have that question.. why do those kext from SL work on mountain lion but they don't under mavericks/yosemite/el cap?

The 64bit Kexts were from the Snow Leopard 10.6.2 beta. There were no further 64bit releases of them. The Mountain Lion hack involves converting ML to a 32bit system that is compatible with the final 32bit Lion Kexts.

Hi! Any ideas why a 10.10.2. system drive from MacPro2,1 with replaced boot.efi files won't boot in MacPro5,1? It should work, right? I even tried reverting to original boot.efi files from Virgin installed Yosemite, no luck. The drive works fine in MacPro2,1 machine. 2,1 has GTX 970, and 5,1 has GTX 980, drivers installed. 5,1 runs El Capitan right now, so the machine is OK. Thanks!

These are the boot.efi locations I replaced on MacPro2,1, and those files I tried reverting to originals:

/System/Library/CoreServices/boot.efi
/usr/standalone/i386/boot.efi

Technically. I replaced my 08 logic board with an 09. Pros, The board was $50. I had full QE/CI when finished. Apple will probably support the 09 with 10.12. Literally every component fit and worked like normal. Cons, the screw holes for the keyboard do not line up. You can either drill your own, or my personal favorite, use some super glue. Assuming you're like me and using the Mac as a secondary and not your primary Machine. I would also recommend doing a fresh install if you go this route. My El Cap partition was stupid slow because of all the unsupported Mac hacks I had installed back with the 08. So I backed up everything, Ran OS X Recovery, and re-installed El Capitan. That's just my recommendation. Here's my video on changing logic boards. I made one mistake in it. I said this would work with the 2010 board. While that's technically true, you have to replace a few components and it's honestly not worth the hassle. I have had confirmation that the DVD drive still works however, if you can find one on the cheap, get an 09 drive. They burned Dual Layer DVD's. Anyway, here's the video. Hope this helped.

Any news on the front of graphic improvements you were working for?
Thanks!:)
Ed
Comparing builds right now. I don't understand why some Macs get the graphical improvements including sound and QuickTime plugins but others don't.
Nothing inconsistent with the code, just hit or miss on whether a Mac Model will use it or not.

I was able to install MacPostFactor 1.0.1 on my black MacBook 4.1, but I have one problem. So everything works fine, except I can't connect to my school's WiFi anymore. It uses WPA2-Enterprise encryption and connects using PEAP and EAP-MSCHAP V2. When I connect, it tries to authenticate using TTLS, but it keeps disconnecting and I won't stay connected. Is there anything I can do to fix this? I am using Mountain Lion btw.
